@Three-Eyed-Crow said in Web portals and scenes and grids oh my!:

I think my biggest struggle with engaging in those/remembering I'm in them is, if I'm not online to get the @inform when there's a new pose in them, I frequently totally miss that there's been activity in them. Like, I'm someone who does pretty well with the Ares scene system but mostly can't manage flashbacks so idk exactly what the difference is. It might just be a matter of how much they're deemphasized on the Arx website (you have to click through your character page to get to your flashbacks and then into the flashback itself). Also might be a cultural thing, idk.

I hate the flashback system. And I say this as someone who likely uses it more than most. The @informs aren't the issue for me. I check my informs religiously because hey! might be something fun! But if I'm posing regularly in one while online? I might not check my informs that day and then the next day be like 'oh that's all from the same day.' I COULD fix that by checkin the @inform every time but.... lolno.

It's the 'reload the page every time' interface for one.
It's the 'have to do some commands on game, some on the web' for two.
I've heard some people complain that since they can't change the look of it (the bright white), they dislike it (I know there's Chrome extensions that let you change these things yourself).

But yeah, the hassle of accessing flashbacks makes them harder to engage in, too.

      Pathetic.

And I was sad enough this morning to find that Apple agreed to hide the emoji for the Taiwan flag in Hong Kong and Macau (it was already hidden in China).

@sunnyj said in NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux:

@auspice People expect staff to do all the work, and staff seems to think games should cater to these people. I met and RPd with @ganymede and all of my friends in games. If you log into a game and you can't find a single person to RP with you steadily, your times are either wacky AF, you need to figure a new way to approach things, or you just leave and accept the game is not for you.

Staff should only provide support to things like the Praxis and Consilium, something that serves the WHOLE Sphere.

Anything else? Eh! Go relearn how to have fun.

I happily ST and run stories for friends (and others) on games. I usually just need Staff for, yeah, support/oversight/approving stuff I'm uncertain about. But I feel like WoD games are largely just sandboxes anyway but it's so hard to get people to... move even these days. Like just... do things. Go. RP. Play.

But the refrain is still just 'there's nothing to do.' Okay. Make things? Make up story? That's... that's the point? And I mean it's part of why I think a game's story should just be a framework (as mentioned above for NOLA). Give people that freedom rather than too rigid a structure. Allow them something fluid to play in rather than something that relies too heavily on Staff/ST oversight.

But regardless it's still gonna fall back on people actually going out and doing.

      @derp

      Yeah, no. Fuck my brother.

This happens 2-3 times a year.

He goes back on another 'I stopped taking my court-ordered medication / therapy because reddit said this mix of illegal drugs would be better' binge, has the cops called (because he ends up naked in someone's yard, attacks someone, OD's, etc.), and drags the whole family down for a few weeks.

Shit like this and his threats on my life are why I've disowned his ass.

I just wish the rest of the family would quit enabling him.

I've yet to play on an Ares game where when I threw up a general scene set and waited, people didn't show up. Yes, I did make sure there were people "active" on the game within it.

This has totally happened to me. Like three times.

Out of the hundreds of scenes I've played on Ares games.

And as you know, if you fail even once, the whole thing is bad. >.>

Considering how much of their own history they've just outright destroyed just to build shit (or to try to get the populace to forget...)... yeah.

I mean if you want to argue 'modern culture' maybe. There is a definite modern culture that the new (70 year old that just celebrated.....) government is trying to enforce but there is also an older one too.

But that's a whole different thread I think.

But I don't think 'oppressing people' should be accepted as part of anyone's culture so y'know. I'mma support Hong Kong and Taiwan and.....

Has mudrammer been updated so that logging works? In the past, whenever I've tried to log / save logs on iPhone, mudrammer has crashed. I do like mudrammer (multiple connections is great!), but the crashing when logging is sadfas.

So. D6 is working like a charm, I finally got pennmush running after banging my head against a really dumb wall for a few weeks. I'm hoping to have a functional game in early January, if I can wrap my head around a wiki, since that seems to be something all the kids want these days.

Get someone else to handle the wiki if its not your thing. It seems to be a popular thing that people volunteer for. More people can wiki than to code, it seems.

wikidot is pretty easy to setup. mediawiki is harder. (wikidot is also free, has its own platform, yadda yadda).

Just please for the love of god do not use fandom.com.

I tried to start playing STELLARIS last night. I couldn't even get a partway through the tutorial before my brain was fried. My brain just isn't wired for those types of games, even though I wish it was.

      That's my issue with Stellaris.
I love it. I wanna play it so bad.
But homg it's so overwhelming my ADHD brain just caaaaaaaaan't.
It makes me so sad. 😞

I mean, in that situ, at least one person has to play the snarky Half Demon who shows them the ropes in modern-day earth. 😄

OH I DON'T KNOW MAYBE TELL THEM YOU'LL BE LATE TO SEE THEM BECAUSE YOU'RE SEEING YOUR DAUGHTER FOR THE LAST TIME FOR FUCK KNOWS HOW LONG? Yeah. This cements it. It is the same guy. Mind, @Nemesis has me blocked, but @Mr-Johnson shared the image from UH with me before he began this project and told me how he'd commissioned the image for 'Two Tone Tales' a long while back, but never got the game off the ground back then.

So the image is his, commissioned, etc.

Huh, I hadn't even seen the $1 xbox beta thing. Seems like a good time to try it out and there's a couple other good titles on there I don't have on steam (albeit not enough that I'd want to keep it).

Yeah, the $1 for the first month was enough for me to go 'OK. This is a worthy price point for me to step in and give this (and maybe a couple other games!) a go.'

It's also a good option for people who don't want to touch Epic!

      Sorry your parents suck :/.

Complain away. My bs doesn't diminish your bs at all.

And now they're gone and on the road and I can bitch and stress and go through a week of having all the shit from the past be dredged up to swill around my mind before I drink it back into oblivion again.

(I really need to find a therapist that takes my insurance so I can process the abuse in a healthy way probably.)
