@Rinel said in The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves):

In general, the best way to remedy this is to apologize for any hurt your words may have caused and to either rephrase the argument if it is a very important argument or, and personally I am suggesting this course of action in the instant situation, simply withdraw from the argument entirely.

Thank you. This is what I've been struggling to find the words for.

I was hurt. Because the timing of the original post was such that it felt very much like a pointed (I don't want to say attack, but certainly response) note to me. I can acknowledge that perhaps it was simply a matter of timing, but there was nothing in the wording that indicated it was a wholly separate and independent post in and of itself and based on how others have reacted, I don't believe I am the only one who felt that way.

So I don't think I am wrong in feeling hurt. And I don't think I'm wrong, either, in feeling that it would be nice to be apologized to. I am not demanding one. I am not going to put my foot down and say I am owed one. But it would be nice. I was in a very bad place (I am still not in a great one) and someone came along and said something that knocked me down further. Then, when it was pointed out that what they said was very hurtful... they later came back and attempted to paint me and those who pointed out what they said was hurtful as the villains in the thing.

Again, @Warma-Sheen, I acknowledge that it may be a matter of crossed wires: you may have come in with a wholly separate concept and it was simply poor timing (see gif below):

    • RE: Great TV

Anyway, Moore actually has no hand in the HBO version (Gibbon does, tho) and has somewhat infamously been very opposed to adaptations of his work after a sort of scuffle with DC post-Watchmen. He's very adamantly on the side of his books should remain books.

He is sort of a madman.

Having recently been to a talk by Leigh Bardugo in which she discussed the upcoming Six of Crows adaptation on Netflix, this has sort of been on my mind because people, of course, were very concern about how good an adaptation it will be. (I am one of them.) Bardugo is very excited about it. She feels it'll be a good adaptation. The showrunner is a big fan of the books and someone who wants to make them very true to form. She will be trying her hand at writing at least one of the scripts. And she has a say in how things go. (Apparently she also has a cameo in an episode!)

However, ON THE OTHER HAND........ Amazon is already working on adapting her new series, The Ninth House. As in the one that was just released. As in the one that she's still working on book 2 for. As in the one that might hit a Game of Thrones sort of situation. As in the one that deals with a lot of more wiggly stuff. She's not as confident about that one and I could tell, from how she was talking about it, that while she's really excited (as any creator would be) that her work is so popular that it was optioned before the book even hit shelves to be made into a series.... she has a concern about how well it'll be treated.

So I'm very yay about Six of Crows, but I'm very hesitant about Ninth House (even tho as I read it it is a very interesting book).

Likening ADHD treatment to lobotomies is not.

      this.

I had just explained how I can't function in day-to-day life anymore. How I'm afraid I'm going to lose what is, in truth, my dream job. I can't even focus on the things I love (hobbies). I'm lucky to take care of myself.

and the first reply I got felt like the equivalent of people who go 'people who take medication are stupid! just go for a walk!' to people with depression.

I've spent years multi-tasking non-stop. it has been my only and primary coping method. Just go go go go go go go go go go go all the time because my brain was go go go go go go go go all the time, but it doesn't work anymore. Everything has crumbled around me and I can't function anymore and I came to the one place I thought people understood and the reply I got was 'fuck doctors, drugs are bad, just speed everything up' which was...... what I used to do

so I felt like I was being told I'm just too broken and a failure

I like this if and only if the possibility exists for a vampire to constantly fight the evil and not just give in and lose forever. Being a vampire who wants to be good and has all of eternity (or is damned for all of eternity) to keep scrabbling toward the Light in her attempts to get there is very compelling to me.

There are certain things in the Lancea / Theban that require a high Humanity but that is part of why it is compelling to ME. You embrace that you are Damned. You embrace (ha ha) that you are an example to humanity as to why they should not sin and why they should walk a righteous path.

My last Lance helped in the Embrace of another Mekhet and while she was thrilled to see him join them, at the same time: she kept warning him away. She kept telling him that being around them was wrong. That he should stop. That he was a good priest and staying a priest was the smart thing and that if he knew what was best for him, he would forget all about the vampires and keep to mortal life.

.....but he didn't and they killed him and then they brought him back and she taught him how to murder.

Meanwhile she shoved my Lisa down holes 😞

Why you're more concerned about being shoved down that hole than bullied into murdering a human alongside all the other baby vamps I'll never know.

I thought this weekend that maybe this ADHD 'hyper' episode was coming to an end. I didn't feel as.... bad. Bad, but not as bad. I was eating a bit better. I was handling stuff like personal hygiene (ha ha) a bit more. I made it out of the house to a social engagement.

Today at work I feel like my brain is on fire.

I can't focus on other people talking.

I sit down to type out emails or even handle my to-do list and I just......... spazz. I can't even finish thoughts.

I forget where I was even going with this.

I wanna go to a corner and cry.

    • Your 'Wait I wasn't planning that...' Moment

Staff doesn't always know what they're doing.
Staff doesn't always ... plan for things.

We don't keep things on rails, much as it might look like we are.
And when you're staffing on a team, sometimes the right hand doesn't talk to the left.

What are the moments where things went wildly off the rails? In a good way? In a bad way? In a hilarious way?

      For my SGM players:

Pagan shooting at that statue was unplanned. I think it threw @Paradox's plans off the rails. I'm not sure how far off. He didn't tell me.

In the end, it fucked up my own plot. I was the ruination of my own plot, as Staff. I can't say I've ever done that. I had to scramble to plan out something new for a contingency plan.

It's not that Paradox and I don't plan with each other, but we're more 'meet once a week to compare notes' than keep each other on the same page at all times (this way we can play in each other's scenes).

So yes, my own PC's actions set off a chain of events that fucked up my own plot.

Has anyone ever done the same?

Have you ever placed something in a scene that PCs picked up on that set off a chain of events that ruined the plot in the long-term? Because I've absolutely done that, too. (Hello, well. I'm never putting a goddamn well in a scene as flavor again lemme tell you what.)
