Truth.
I miss my kitty.
You need more kitty in your life.

RE: Good TV
@Ganymede
@Cupcake and @Auspice were having actual conversations about who they thought the various people were, on MSB. How'd you miss it?This is true. It's not my fault you missed our posts about it, @Ganymede!
(Still proud of myself for knowing who the Monster was from his first episode. SELF HI5!)

@Auspice And, you know, he gives me all the love when I'm down. One can not discount the love of pets.

I got night terrors for a while. Ike would wake me up and force me to cuddle her for a bit (wedging herself against me etc so I didn't just fall back asleep) until she was sure I was okay.

What, people sometimes play games to portray special snowflakes? Gasp! It's like people see cool things in media and want to enact those!
Yeah, the thing is, tho...
If Gregory House always makes everything all about him, that's not a problem. House is already about House. It's right in the name.
MU*s are collaborative fiction works where the authors are also kinda actors and also we're the audience. Structures have to be different.
And while everyone should want to be cool... there's that joke about how an RP group playing Firefly would be five Rivers and maybe a Jayne. Follow your RP bliss, but like, if everyone's the quirky outsider nobody is...
Wash. 100%. But I love me a good crack pilot.

@Auspice I have a hard time slowing my brain down to one thing at a time. As for getting out of bed in the morning.. I look at Logan, and remind myself he depends on me to feed him and take care of him.
That is absolutely valid. I can honestly say I wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for my cat.

If you don't want to regularly be put in punishment scenes, don't play a screw-up.
Unfortunately, the 'screw-up who always gets away with it' is a really, really popular trope.

@TNP It's just that I have to work and function, and if I'm already feeling it like this, it ramps up the anxiety about how I will make it through the work week.
I know it gets said often, but I know I sometimes need a reminder when my mental state is really bad:
take it one day at a time.
Us anxiety-ridden types are really bad about worrying about the future. And when depression (situational, a spike in chemical depression: whatever) kicks in, it can be all the worse.
On those days, lying in bed in the morning as I consider just calling out of work so I can sleep all day... I just make myself focus on what's right in front of me. Get up. Get dressed. Get out the door. Each one becomes a chunked item that I focus on. Broken down it gets easier and it also gives me a purpose.
So yes, I know 'take it one day at a time' just sort of falls into that whole big realm of 'shit everyone says,' but it's also the one that I need be reminded of the most because it's a reminder to give myself a purpose I can fulfill right here, right now. I'm not stressing over next week. I'm not getting more upset because I can't fix my current state. I'm telling myself: all I need to do in the next two hours is eat.
Then, eventually, between the small victories and focus (worrying about the right now that's achievable vs the nebulous future)...... it clears.

@Thenomain It's come up a couple times - I believe Sunny mentioned it originally. But regardless, my point isn't about length it's about the prevalent sentiment that it would inherently be boring and is "exactly the sort of scene that would mostly be glazed over in a book or a movie". (Which is not really my experience with books/movies either, but that's neither here nor there.)
man how many times did the Trio get chewed out in Harry Potter?

So I take it that both of you need to actively be involved in driving the ship from point A to Point B, and having the cargo hauling happen off-screen in the background would not scratch the itch?
Correct.
I like pilot-y games (which surely comes as no surprise to those that know me).
I don't fault those who don't. Same as I don't like super crunchy rules laden systems, but some folks do.
I've even debated seeing if I can find the old CrystalMUSH database to spin back up.

A caveat is where you have a PC CO. Again, if another player does not want to play the demotion scene, that’s fine; however, I would be peeved if said player claimed that my PC was a screeching bitch during whatever the scene was, if we agreed there was a scene that happened behind-the-scenes.
This happened to me on Notion. We discussed my character (one of the instructors) having a chat with someone after a mission. We scheduled the scene for when I'd next be available.......they RP'd in the interim with people that my PC had been furious, yelling, etc.....which wasn't my character's style at all and put me in a really unhappy spot because look at least ask me for what the overall strokes of the scene would be if we're backscening and you reference it.

RE: Consent in Gaming
@Sunny said in Consent in Gaming:
In my opinion, there is a wide gulf between 'didn't happen' and 'didn't happen on screen'. If someone is roleplaying that whatever happened off screen DID NOT HAPPEN, then that is something else entirely. I am specifically -- and only -- referring to a difference of 'happened on screen' and 'happened off screen'. If someone takes 'happened off screen' to be 'didn't happen', then they would be in violation of the rules.
Characters should have to deal with the fallout of their actions, absolutely. I don't think that this means that players have to be punished with on-screen roleplay that isn't fun.
The problem is that the venn crossover between 'I don't want to rp this' and 'I want to say this never happened' is huge. Fara and I are referring to the sort of people who don't want their character to ever look bad. It's not about 'having to RP out the chewing out' to them. It's the fact that other PCs will know they got in trouble. That maybe they have a punishment to at least say they were doing. That now someone has their eye on them.
This is why I'm not great with full-consent games. On SGM we'll never make you role play out something you don't want, but we also lay out that you can't use it to escape actions.
Which you and I are in agreement on.
The issue with saying absolute 100% full consent is people do use it as an escape. 'I know I was told my character is icly (off camera) cleaning the latrines for a week but I'm gonna ignore that because he'd totally never get in trouble for what he did '
