so maybe someone needs to boot up a Trade Wars server.

if you wanna go, like, BnB detail
[flashback intensifies]
yeah, i still have most of a moondragon app i wrote for somewhere that's done in, like, basically clinical writing and has a bunch of page-length traits
I spent like 3 weeks working on an OC and then never actually played because the app process burned me out so bad

If the text entry cursor thing (also called a caret, apparently) is flashing, I assume the text I enter will be on that flashing thing. IF YOU ARE NOT THE SELECTED WINDOW, DON'T DO THE FLASHY TEXT ENTRY THING.
For some unknown reason, Hangouts on my laptop takes control of text entry. If I have had a chat window for Hangouts open and go to type elsewhere...... it goes to Hangouts.
I have not found any trace of this issue on the intarwebs or any rhyme or reason for it.

@Auspice This may sound trite, but exertion/exercise does sometimes help, as a last resort, like taking a walk. This is however anecdotal.
Edit: My therapist was talking to me about fight/flight responses and a lot of times those feelings are literally adrenaline with nowhere to go. To paraphrase badly.
they are, I agree. I've gone on RUNS and I'm not a running person to deal with them.
But unfortunately, the change in weather this week has left me struggling to even walk because yay arthritis. -
RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I wanna take a mental day. But I left early because sick last Friday and I need the money and...
...but my ADHD has been so bad this week that I am getting nothing of consequence done. I actually made myself light-headed twice today by aggressively forcing myself to focus on things.
I just can't do it. None of my coping methods are working. I just have constant racing-bouncing-all-over-the-place thoughts and even with headphones and music I am distracted by everything.
So I'm just massively depressed because I feel like I'm failing at my job. Which is making me feel worse mentally in the long run.

I haven't been in High School in a hot minute and your saying 'last week' had me thinking, "I'm not going back and you can't make me!" Why people are into the idea of a Fountain of Youth, I have no idea. I'm gonna go pour myself a drink. No shit.
I won't even roleplay a teenager because egads that was a rough time in life. -

long ago when some people were probably in high school, there was a very vigorous debate as to whether non-consent games were "better" than consent games.
you mean last week?

Age of Alliances space trucker sim has a 24 hour cooldown
one run per 24 hours would get boring quick and may not scratch the itch
oh man no. what if that run takes 20 minutes?! I wanna design a complex route that'll make me profit and take me to ten different stops in 3 hours.

Until you realize that every third page you come across the phrase "and it was the easiest thing in the world."
It's been a LONG TIME since I read them, but
authors do get hung up on certain words/terms it is true.
I've used the word 'quibble' in like, five conversations today.
I NEVER USE THAT WORD. -

I personally don't look at Mucks and Moos because my learning curve from Mush is more than I care for. This is what you get when you stick to a niche. It's not toxic, per se, but it is what it is.
I mean, I am American.
It did take me about two years to go from MOO to MUSH/MUX.
ETA: unfortunately my first MUSH was Dark Metal.....

I think Starmourn is technically this, though it's IRE pay-to-win MUD, so.
PAY TO PLAY A FAKE MONEY ECON GAME?!
...even as I say this I look at Eve Online lol.

WNOHGB
What is that
As @Jennkryst said: Where No One Has Gone Before.
It was a Star Trek MOO that ran really strong for a while and I think a lot of that had to do with the space sim aspect. Their code was advanced enough that the ship computers were programmable (using super simple *NIX style scripting)! But man, I loved their econ system. I always went Indie to play merchant. Just wanna while away the hours? Pick up cargo at point A and truck it to point B: profit.

RE: Space Sim w/Economy
Now, mind, while I wouldn't be opposed to helping on such a project... I've already got a pretty full plate with SGM.
I just wanna play space trucker dagummit.

For the people negatively reacting to the "wouldn't it be nice if we everyone were nice" nature
I think this part, everyone can agree on.
What had people concerned is the concept of following up with every player after every game to make sure they're 'okay.' That does lean a bit into 'therapy' territory.

Space Sim w/Economy
This came up in a talk with someone else: we want something like WNOHGB had. A game where we can fly ships around and work an economy system.
Not a full MUD (tho maybe there's a MUD out there that can scratch the itch), but something akin to, yes, WNOHGB with its trade system.
Considering I haven't heard about any such game in ages...... would there be anyone interested in working on developing one? Or anyone who has the code to one of these games that'd be willing to work on resurfacing it?
@Jennkryst (not the person I was talking to, mind) would probably love you forever if they got to play a space trucker.

@surreality said in Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing:
The new arrival doesn't care about the difference between MOO and MUSH or DikuMUD historically, why they're different, or how they've been used, why this game is different than the other MOOs before it. They're interested in the kind of play they can find there, and how to do it.
And I think, honestly, obsessing over these is a form of gatekeeping.
When people ask me what I'm doing, my go-to answer is: 'text-based roleplaying.'
It's a phrase that encapsulates the overall idea and if they're interested... then I go into more detail.
But I feel like needing to be absolutely specific in terms of what code-base and what systems-code and....
is akin to:
'Oh, you like the Seahawks? I do, too!'
'Really? So who did they recruit this year and why?'If you (general you) know the full history of MUing and its code bases and.... great, that's awesome (and I'm not being sarcastic here). But don't expect me or anyone else to do so.

I can see making sure staff is open to post-scene feedback(even mid-scene feedback)
This is something @Paradox and I have absolutely been encouraging on SGM.
I've also (and I will probably do this once a month) put up a Google feedback form. The one right now is about schedules and 'what sort of plot do you want to see?'
The next one might be things like 'Are there any theme files you think are missing?' 'What have we been doing right in the plot? What can we do better?'
But you and @Derp are both right: STs should not be expected to ever, ever chase people down and ask them 'was that okay?' We already have a hard enough time getting people to ST. Expecting them to play therapist to people as well would cut that number even further.
Should STs be open to feedback. Shit like 'hey, I'm not really comfortable with X - if you have it in a plot again, can you let me know up front or tone it back?' should be something people are free to do. Staff should definitely take feedback like this into consideration and player STs could always say 'I'm sorry, but my next plot is going to feature X so you might want to sit it out.'
