      b) If you've ever joked that English majors can have a great career waiting tables, you deserve to be punched in your big stupid face.

      "English majors make great baristas"
"Ugh, why pay writers? -I- write everyday."
"We don't need to hire a writer. My niece loves to write, I'll just ask her to do it."
"I don't need to pay someone to write a script for our commercial, what a waste of money. I'll write it."

The last one was relayed to me by a videographer who ran a small company filming commercials for local businesses. He was so pained by how difficult it was to get companies to understand that the reason their commercials did so poorly was they were just so badly written.

The Texas Book Festival will be hosted online this year, so anyone can check it out: https://www.texasbookfestival.org/

It isn't for a few months, but you can sign up to the newsletter. I'm not sure who this will interest, but! I thought I'd share. 🙂

@Macha said in Ridiculous Embarrassing Moments:

I have lain awake many a night, reliving my worst hits, again and again.

Then someone asked me to remember something humiliating someone else did. And I couldn't, at least not in any sort of quick fashion.

So I am trying to stop agonizing.

But anxiety brain is what it is.

(I also have a super shitty father who likes to bring up embarrassing moments to all and sundry. Also outright lies. And I'm not talking 'cutesy childhood' moments. I bring up some of those. So, in my case: there is at least one person in my life who I KNOW remembers -- or at least thinks he does even if it's all concocted in his head -- shit I've done and LOOOOOOOOVES to tell other people.)

Honestly, as someone who lived in the area you do @Aria .... I longed for AWD some winters.

This is actually part of why I don't talk much IRL until I'm very comfortable with a group of people.

I'm terrified of making one of those leaps (and I was led to believe for a long, long, long time that I did it because I 'didn't care about the conversation') and pissing people off. Because 9 times out of 10, when someone asks 'how the hell did you get to that?' and you explain... it doesn't actually help matters.

Have any of you ever seen the players of hetero characters do the kind of aggressive "hey everyone watch me sit in my lover's lap while he strokes me" thing you see so many 'lesbians' do?

      Yes.
I have absolutely seen this before. Personally I've seen it more between hetero couples on games than gay couples.

Let's Game It Out is pretty great. I found out about him by way of Satisfactory, a game that I have put.. way too many hours into.

      His Satisfactory videos are amazing.
The Hydroneer one is probably one of my favorites though.

Let's Game It Out has become my new favorite channel. This guy just does absolutely ridiculous, game-breaking stuff (especially in simulators). His deadpan delivery is hilarious and he has a... special relationship with conveyor belts.

I'm not sure if this has been said here before, but one of the perks to wearing a mask is I haven't had anyone tell me 'you should smile' in months.

I have twice now -- twice -- gone on the first leg of a trip with a pocket knife (a wee thing; look up the Leatherman Squirt and yes, I know, unfortunate name, but it's so fucking convenient) in my carry-on only to have them find it on my return and be like OMG and I'm like 'uhhhhhhh I dunno, I always have it in my bag and I didn't think about it and the blade isn't even an inch long I dunno what to tell you'

still haven't replaced it after the last incident 😕

@JinShei said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:

@Tinuviel I literally could do this!

Coming to you now from Estate Road 2, where three families have converged on the side of the street to have a barbeque and let their children play on a bouncy castle, despite the perils of COVID-19. Today, on the JinShei Show, we ask, do people really dislike their kids and friends this much? Should we just let them all catch this and die?

I mean, this absolutely horrible to admit and, like, probably the 837th reason I'm going to hell....

But every now and then, I look at someone doing something really, really obviously stupid that they have publicly, loudly, repeatedly been warned against re: COVID and I think to myself, "....Maybe this one is actually doing us all a favor and we just don't realize it yet."

Then I remember everyone else they're putting at risk and get pissed off again.

      My sister, ladies and gentlemen.

Spent the first couple months being smart, being super vocally 'OMG FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES' ... and then, like you might expect someone who turned 21 at the start of the year, she got bored. She began going on road trips to the beach. She began going to bars (and complaining when said bars got shut down for overcrowding). etc... etc... etc...

Now her Twitter feed is a mix of her complaining about having covid and complaining about people not following guidelines and just a week ago her Twitter/Insta was photos of her and a dozen other people in close quarters at the beach.

      😐

@GreenFlashlight said in The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves):

Do any of you ever find that you can't focus on a big picture because you're hyperfocused on one part of it? Like, if there are two people on a screen I'm looking at, I focus on one of them. If I'm trying to hold eye contact, I have to focus on one eye. Stuff like that. Does it sound familiar to any of you?

I'm not sure it is possible to look at both eyes but I wonder if it is and then I stress out about it so I look at peoples noses instead

In interviews I tend to look at a point over their shoulder but I had someone tell me this is probably why I don't get hired because of the lack of eye contact but which fucking eye do you look at?! 😐

Here I am fighting to recover my ability to breathe from covid and this is incoming. Oof

Please be careful anyone else who is in the path of this cloud. They're saying it's dangerous even if you don't have pre existing conditions that affect the lungs.

      But seriously yes on all.

I put sticky notes at eye level sometimes to remind me of shit. Do this. This thing is in this place. Don't forget the.

And I always thought it just made me an anxious needy bitch that I felt like people didn't care about me when I hadn't heard from them not that hey there are things out of whack in my brain that do this to me.

(Also that other people feel the same about this stuff makes me feel less like a crazy person??)
