      @Wretched

      That last one, oof.

I have both, a) worried something was wrong with me because I didn't seem to 'feel' as others did when someone died, b) been accused of just seeking attention when it'd finally hit me days or weeks later.

I actually like the slightly older tone of Korra, mostly. The big issues I have with the series are:

Jumping to modernity the way they did made everything feel whitewashed, even though republic city has a strong SEA aesthetic.

Further extension of everyone sounding white (ATLA did this with its main characters which had some unfortunate implications)

I think a lot of this is just -- it's a show in English. Even if you use voice actors who are people of color, they're probably still native English speakers. Putting on an accent would arguably be worse.

The way I get around this is just the reminder of hey this is a fantasy setting and this is it.... translated into English!
I prefer it this way than when shows give you 'generic faux-British accent to make it feel FANTASY'

      tl;dr I view it as a dub.

@silverfox My boy cat just has general allergies. He's pretty much ALWAYS sniffly/sneezy because getting allergy pills (Chlorphenamine is safe for animals) into him is next to impossible lately (I was able to for a little while and then he caught on that his 'treats' were pill pockets and now nope).

Some people have more some have less. And for some the coping mechanisms you learn absolutely do work. Mine did for a long time until they...didn't. The past few years have been a mess of not keeping and barely keeping jobs.

I have (a mild case of) OCD. So I keep things clean. In my mind I keep only moderately barely clean and I often love in a state of 'Oh god I'm failing this isn't clean enough' but I've had a few friends over the years tell me that I can be a bit obsessive over it at times.

I clean out my car every time I get gas.
I clean the kitchen as I cook.

....I have been late to work on multiple occasions because the cabinet doors must be scrubbed clean and I cannot do anything else until they are or I've stayed up all night because this room must be cleaned top to bottom and completely rearranged

@faraday said in The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves):

It's like being sad versus having depression. One is more severe and chronic than the other.

Or even chemical depression vs situational depression. One will improve and pass with time or improvement of the situation. Example there is: I have no job rn, it makes me depressed despite my anti-depressants, because it's a different kind of depression than the chemical depression the meds are for.

With the ADHD vs someone who.... 'gets distracted easily sometimes' is they can, say, focus when they need to. Think of that person at work who does spend a lot of time chatting with people who walk by or often goes over and chats with others but when they've got to knuckle down and get stuff done: they do it!

And then there's people like us. We just... can't. We basically have to ride the wave and hope maybe that hyperfocus will hit. The rest of the time is like this unending frustration of 'why can't I just fucking do what I need to do when I need to do it?!' as you watch deadlines come and go. It's not that you're lazy. It's not that you put it off. It's that you literally couldn't handle all that shit. You tried and you tried and you tried and you maybe broke down in tears in the bathroom twenty times and you hate telling your boss for the Nth time that it's just a bad ADHD day-

I mean I'm getting anxious just trying to explain it. But yes.

Yes. The difference between 'easily distracted but can get to it when need be' and 'my brain is a bag of marbles that just puked all over the floor and I just want to lie down and die'

The other night I wanted to 'finish just this section' on something I'm cross-stitching. That was around midnight.

6am I look up and- oh.

      That's hyperfocus.

The day I discovered I could buy swimsuits by bra size was pretty much the best thing. That's always been my #1 issue. Oh sure I can FIND a swimsuit that fits all the rest of me but then my boobs are everywhere and-

nope. I'll pay that $120 for a swimsuit by Panache that's got a freakin' bra built into it. Gimme.

@Auspice Which one? The first movie or King of the Monsters? I'm middling on the first movie but I loved KotM.

The one that came out in 2014. I haven't seen KotM yet. I forgot that was also a May movie.

The first one (I keep forgetting it's a 'reboot' of things...) was OKAY, but it wasn't great. I mean yeah it had Bryan Cranston who I love. It has the ever-memeable 'Let them fight' but as a MOVIE it felt so disjointed and while I felt it was intended to be an ensemble piece, it just didn't quite pull it off.

Aw crap. Just read that Godzilla vs Kong has been moved to May 21st, 2021. Sucks but at least it'll be a nice birthday movie for me to hit.

Maybe it'll make up for the LAST Godzilla-birthday-movie I had.....

I ate a third of a bag of bugles yesterday because I needed food but couldn't food and when i finally did food I tried to be healthy by having greek yogurt and granola but I got like four bites in before I realized it was just no good (like, the food was fine, but it was not working for me)

so I went back to the bugles.

unless its disruptive, I really don't care if they enjoy it. If it's disruptive, I'd prefer they kindly moved to Shang.

to those of us who are LGBT?
It's upsetting. And I 100% wish they'd move to Shang. I wish EVERYONE whose singular goal was just to TS would go to Shang. I got nothing against TS, but when it's your only reason to RP? Just go to Shang.

It's upsetting to see ourselves portrayed as a trope. For example, as someone bi, I hate when a bi character -- my own or another -- is assumed to be a slut, a whore, or 'always into threesomes.' I hate the portrayal (as a chick into chicks) of lesbians just being oversexed bimbos.

I was driven off a game as a 'homophobe' once because I was playing a straight dude and a handful of the tropey over-the-top gay characters came up to me demanding I 'make' my character gay and when I said no, he's straight- they sent out @mails to everyone in my RP circle saying that because I wasn't interested in gay sex, I was homophobic. I can't speak for the gay men around here, but I'm pretty sure they'd be opposed (just from the POV as someone in the LGBT umbrella) to the idea of 'gay as a choice.'

Also, in a feeble and ill-considered defense of my gender, it's not just dudes who MU* a gay member of the opposite sex as a fetishy stereotype.

I was about to post this.

I have known men who can play lesbians well. I have known women who can play gay men well.

I have also encountered just as many, if not more horrifyingly tropey, fetishized gay men in the past 15 years than I have the tropey, fetishized lesbians (but I also haven't played WoD as long as some which seems to draw the men-playing-lesbians more).
