External keyboard, mouse, monitor, close the screen, to have a desktop.

Really, there is nothing more you need to do.

I don't have a monitor that'd work for it at the moment. I just have a DVI monitor (the only monitor I have is that old, yes >.>) and I am still sans-desk.

I could get an adapter (I know those are a few bucks) and setup on my coffee table, but with the way asshole cat will just FLING himself across surfaces (he slams into my hip on a regular basis when I'm walking around the apartment), I'd be terrified of him knocking it all over. I can't trust any setup that's not on a desk/table tucked safely against the wall.

The 'pay back as you can' for a working machine that's of equal spec is a really great alternative right now. I know I can do that. And I have a phone interview today that is hella promising (I interviewed with the company a few months back and the feedback was: we really like you, but you aren't a fit for this exact position. Please do apply again when there is a position you do fit. And I really fit this one).

So many of you know that my Macbook has been steadily dying because my asshole cat (seriously world, I know I have p much the most amazing cat ever, but did you also have to give me the most difficult cat to ever be a scam artist?!) chewed on the corner of the screen.

The crack and dead pixels have been steadily expanding. The upper left of the screen in a steady growing void diagonally across is just losing legibility. I've been suffering around it because... welp. What am I gonna do? Getting a car was higher priority. Better car = wider range of job hunting = better job (hopefully) = moar money = new computer. It's a process.

But today, the computer didn't even want to come on at first. The crack had fully reached the opposite side of the screen. I finally got it on. I'm gonna run a full backup (gotta remember where I put the external drive after the one I ran the other week).

THANKFULLY an amazing friend of mine who has a couple old Macbooks (he's a stellar dev who has worked for companies that will just upgrade him after a year or two and let him keep the 'old') is selling me one for cheap on a 'pay me back when you can' plan. I just have to coddle this one into limping along until it gets here.

But seriously, thanks a lot asshole cat. The machine itself still runs great. Processor, et al. It's just the keyboard (that's on me: much abuse over 4 years) and monitor are ded.

We're looking at a nodeBB plugin. I'd like something central rather than 'oh you have to go to this other site and create another account...' because I know that gets annoying for folks.

So this is why I really want to convert us to phpBB. They have built-in pages/wikis on the forum and this list is exactly why. I just haven't had the free time lately to devote to the conversion.

Ike will be 9 this year and I already get kind of sad sometimes because I know it will be absolutely devastating when I lose her. She is my everything. She is the single-most important thing to me in this world.

She's still healthy other than her left eye gets irritated from time to time and I have to switch up her food sometimes because her stomach is sensitive (the Purina One Sensitive Systems I've had her on has been doing best, but she still has her bad days).

But I could seriously lose everything else and be OK so long as I had her, but I don't know what I'd do if I lost her.

I've made a few stealth updates over the past year, but I guess I'll post this one along with a:

If anyone knows an active comic game where I can app Zatanna, let me know? I miss playing her, but I got tired of feeling like I was constantly pulling teeth to get people to RP on G&M (which is why I faded away).

    • RE: New Games and Feature Characters...

I've been a fan also of the concept of 'One major FC and an antagonist' and the antagonist is quicker to get taken away if you never run any encounters on them (one-on-ones) for supers to do things.

But I do think the issue on comic games of the alt hogs who have to be all the things is a real one. Because those people exist. There are those of us who really just want to be able to play one or two characters (I have about 3-4 people I regularly want to play and never all at once: if I can get onto a game and app one of them, I stay as that one)...

And yet almost every time, those characters are taken BY the alt hogs, so I see them just languish. And I know you guys (since mine are female chars) encounter the same issue.

      LIES.

I've always wondered where the concept of puppy breath being nice comes from because all puppies who have breathed on me have had GROSS BREATH.

But I will fully admit cats have tuna breath.

    • RE: Recipes!

Tonight was my second run with these (IP) teriyaki wings. The first time was OK, but I wanted to try them again (plus hey, relatively low-effort wings).

Tonight was a winner. I tweaked the teriyaki recipe a bit (put a couple more teaspoons of sriracha in, plus a teaspoon or two of valentina, and a couple tablespoons a hoisin). I may have been really lazy and used ground (vs super freshly minced) garlic and ginger. Sitting there and doing the thing to peel and mince ginger is the hardest part of the recipe, but it's worth it.

I barely waited for these to cool down before I downed six wings standing at my counter. #worthit The sauce came out that balance of sweet on the front end with a bit of burn on the back end. Could def. up the hot sauces used for more spice, but I didn't want HOT. I mean it's just teriyaki. That little bit of hit at the back of the throat is fine.

However, I think what I have here is the base to work off of. Next step? Turning it into a mango habanero.

It's worked out well for me. The only place I've ever gone where the UN wasn't available to me was the freaking XBox.

A lot of online games (like MMOs) won't let me use Auspice. The common theory is the 'spice' part of the name must trip some drug filter.

But it's all good. I often use 'YoursTruly' in MMO gaming anyway and it's rarely taken (and if any of you bastards start using it I will cut a bitch).

    • RE: Why did you pick your username?

A lot of people assume 'Auspice' relates to Werewolf, but it doesn't. I began using it before I was ever a WoD player.

It's actually my favorite word. I've always been into precognition, premonitions, oracles (my avatar is from an image I composited of the painting of the Oracle of Delphi for a project I did early on in my degree program).

Originally, an auspice was a divination from observing birds (I chose that one to explain it to the ladies at the OH DMV back when I lived there and got it on my license plate and they were all antsy about WELL WE DON'T RECOGNIZE THIS....).

Ahem. Anyway. I used to use 'Tadiera' everywhere and about 15 years ago, I began shifting over and this being my favorite word, it's what I settled on. I am Auspice. Or 'All-Spice' as some go with. 😉

    • RE: Random Oddness or 'Is This Normal?'

For the first, I'd look at hypnopompia. There is a specific aspect of it called 'sleep intertia:' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_inertia. You may not actually be fully awake. Almost everyone experiences certain (expected) levels of sleep inertia. That sort of stumbling, 'not yet coherent' feelings as your body wakes up. But since you're waking up in the midst of your proper sleep cycle, your mind may just be incapable of processing complex symbols (text).

I used to get hypnogogic hallucinations (the mirrored part: what occurs as you fall asleep) really bad, myself.

For the other... dunno. Sounds like vertigo, which can come with weird sense of 'place of self.' Vertigo for me often comes with a sensation of being out of sync with the rotation of the earth.

Unagi don/unadon/unagi donburi. That is to say, a bowl of steaming hot rice topped with eel grilled in teriyaki style, with the salty sweet sauce turned into a caramelized glaze from exposure to flame. My local place adds thin marinated strips of seaweed and a generous scoop of masago. It's become my favorite comfort food, especially when the weather's cold.

I wish I had some of this right now. There's a few places in town that have it, I bet....

mebbe I'll have the spare funds someday soon!

The upside is you don't have to download/login to the launcher immediately. If you have Twitch Prime, just login to Twitch (the website) and click 'Claim Offer' from the dropdown.

Since my launcher is on my Windows desktop and I'm often on my Macbook, this is what I do.
