The kicker is that in this so-called liberal town, people are more concerned with their property values than actually doing the right thing that would also help the city in the process.

I saw the same complaints frequently in Seattle.

      'Let's do <thing to help veterans/homeless/other minority group>!'
'BUT MY PROPERTY VALUES! I GIVE TO CHARITIES AND VOTE BLUE ISN'T THAT ENOUGH!

Everyone and their gay brother raves about Tweezerman tweezers it seems, but my god they cost a smooth penny.

      Are they really worth it?

I need a new pair of tweezers, but I do not know if I want to spend $15 (we talkin' Amazon prices) on something my cat is liable to lose under the sofa.

(also hello new thread to talk about prettifyin' stuffs)

      Incredibles 2 was totally wicked.
It has a pretty interesting commentary on superheroes and normal umanity which was quite cool, the superhero fights were nice and it legit picks up like 15 seconds after the end of the original movie. It was worth seeing in theatres.

      Also Jack-Jack a best.

I just saw it last night and I also really loved that it picked up right after the first movie.

      Jack-Jack and Edna are amazing.

The scenes causing the epilepsy warnings were uncomfortable visually (for me), but they made sense for the story. And it was (as for Pixar's track record) a great story.

So, someone has lent me car while out of town for a week and a half.

On top of it being amazing having a window of time being free from relying on people for rides or standing around waiting for a rideshare to arrive... I had something happen tonight I've never had happen before. Not once. In my entire time as a driver.

There was only a quarter tank left (I got it with about a third before I went to work today and I went to see a movie after work because hey, I don't have long left on my first free month with MoviePass and I should take advantage!) and I figured I'd put some gas in.

I authorized $30 because I remembered the last I was driving, $20 never seemed to go far.

      It cut off at $26.

That has never... ever happened to me. I actually briefly froze because I had no idea what to do in that situation. Obviously I realized a second later: oh, yeah, it only charges however much gets used.

But I've never actually been able to... authorize more than I need. It was super surreal, but it's also really nice to have this brief period of time of being... free.

      I love my doctor's office.

I was born with a fairly rare condition. And for most of my life, post-pediatricians, the reaction when I name this condition has been:
      I don't believe you

even when the scars on my abdomen are in full view. Because the condition is rare enough that you pretty much have to be in obstetrics or pediatrics to have ever dealt with it (or in the case of a gastroenterologist I once met: served as a pediatric surgeon). So many doctors would just think I made up some "medical sounding word" because they knew "everything." There were times this caused severe health problems for me over the years.

So it is a fucking gem in my world when a doctor is willing to hear more about it or is even willing to research it themselves. Those are the true healers, y'know? The ones who know it's impossible to know it all. The ones who acknowledge they are specialists in their field.

The condition I was born with, I only survived because I was born in the exact right place. The surgeon was pioneering ways to save kids born with the condition. He wrote papers on me. I have never met anyone born with it. The closest is I once spoke to someone who had a younger cousin born with it. I've searched online before and the closest I've found is mommy forums with threads and I think the oldest kid on one of those was like, 10.

Anyway. My doctor's office. My doctor, when I went in yesterday, was fascinated to hear about it, wanted to get the name right, and was like 'I have homework to do.' I didn't get my usual doctor (since it was an emergency visit), but my usual doc is even amazing. Like, one of the sweetest people ever. The whole place is lovely. I usually do not like going to the doctor because it makes me uncomfortable to be touched, undressed in a weird place, etc etc... But this office is just... it's welcoming, everyone is so nice and understanding. It deserves the high ratings it has.

They even have an online portal setup so they can do follow-ups at home to check on progress of meds or so you can ask questions that way you don't have to trek back in which everyone knows is a hassle. They basically have figured out this doctor office shit.

      My sister.

My sister who went off to her first year of college this past year not to the college that would have given her a full scholarship for lacrosse, but to USC (because the other one was an all-girls college and ugh, she wanted to be around BOYS). Even though the other one was also being attended by her best friend and again, let me note: FULL. SCHOLARSHIP.

My sister who kept ending up failing classes because (per my mom) she was 'sick,' but when I had to add the venmo app to pay for something once and it auto-populated my contacts and showed their public notes, all of hers were colloquialisms for alcohol and weed.

My sister who went to Miami just a couple weeks before finals for a music festival, then barely passed her finals after last summer being a sneering little snot at me about how she'd 'finally' be better at me at something and finish college first with a 4.0 and valedictorian because HS was SO EASY (she did have a 4.0 GPA in HS despite her behavior, I'll give her that, but in SC I'm not sure how difficult that is and we know the step between curriculums is much greater).

My sister and I are hugely different. I mean, there's an age gap of 13 years. Practically a generational gap. I helped raised her. My mother fell into a post-partum depression with her so bad that my father and I feared she'd attempt suicide. She'd lock herself in her bedroom for days. And my father was suck a workaholic, running the household fell to me. Taking care of my sister fell to me. I was homeschooled, so it's not like I 'had anywhere to be' (their idea of homeschool was to shove whatever books they'd bought that year at me and give me tests when they remembered).

Maybe my anger about my sister is me blaming myself. Like oh, if I hadn't fucked up.... but I dunno. Maybe she resents me having been the one to tend to her so much when she was so little, but I dunno if she'd remember, it was only for her first 2, 3 years.

Anyway, this does fold into a sort of win.

I found out on her twitter that ON FATHER'S DAY (oh yes, this is a real winner). Oh. Fucking. Father's Day. my mother bought my dad a Capital's hat (since they won the Stanley Cup) a hat. This is my father's singlemost favorite sports team and he's been following them since they formed. My sister.... likes them when they're winning (like your classic fairweather fan, y'know?) and I guess my sister began begging and whining and wheedling my dad for the hat, forgetting which day it was and because she's the baby of the family and he always gives in to her because she's his princess: he gave her the hat.

      On Father's Day.

I had been planning to buy him something for the Caps anyway, but I fell really sick after payday & over the weekend. I was gonna get him a mug or something for his desk, but I'm replacing that hat (+ a sticker for his car) instead.

I hate my supervisor for using "we" in her emails, like "Did we remember to send the client xyz?" Like somehow this is some Greek Chorus doing my job, or I'm a four year old kid. I also hate that she cuts me off when I'm talking.

I have no idea how to communicate how much I dislike these things, and it's starting to effect my performance because I simply can't deal with her.

To play devil's advocate, she may not realize she's doing it.

I have a couple clients that require me to use 'we' when emailing customer's because 'what if someone else steps in on your day off and emails them back?'

Okay, so? The customer isn't going to care and nitpick to that level.

But it's required. So I have to do it.

It's possible she's had past jobs like this or supervisors of her own that require such things. It is a business parlance that a lot of people/companies use because 'blah blah it shows that your issue is cared about by all of us here at <company>.'

It's one of those really stupid marketing / buzzword-y type things. You probably could (on a good, non-bad-anxiety days) sit down with her and say 'Hey, it kind of makes me uncomfortable when you say 'we' on emails' and find out.

@pandora That 'my eye is opening at an angle because my mascara has hermetically sealed half of my eyelid shut with what suddenly seems to have turned into tar, waterproof my sweet ass' feeling is the worst. It seriously is.

FWIW, those neutrogena makeup removing wipes are really fucking good for those moments. I swear by those things, and they don't leave that 'my skin is now so dry, if I dare smile or blink, my flesh will crack' feeling whilst getting even the worst goth hell mascara off in two sweeps. They are ❤

For me it's micellar water + cotton pads. It's cheaper than the makeup removing wipes, but works just as well.

But I still pass out with makeup on after nights of drinking all too often.

A single success is a success. A skill at 3 is 'you are a professional in this skill' an attribute at 3 is you are /good/ in that area. Dex 3 int 3 medicine 3 is a damned good doctor, add bonuses for tools and operating rooms and whatever, you are almost guaranteed a success MOST of the time.

Agreed, here. My longest running character had about 5-7 dice in a bunch of different things, and with the occasional willpower spend or equipment bonus he always got along fine except with STs who forget how the system works and start calling for you to hit a certain number of successes to actually succeed at anything.

Outside combat and contested rolls against similarly overbuilt characters there's not much need for 60 dice in anything.

I admit, I do sometimes scale things in investigations based on roll results.

If Bob and Jim both roll a perception check and Bob gets just 1 success while Jim gets 5, I'm gonna give Jim more details than Bob gets.

However, this is also for RP purposes. It's less fun if everyone sees the same thing. It just becomes 'whoever poses quickest gets the clue!'.
