    • RE: Respecs.

I'm also in the boat of 'respec with limitations.'

I think you should be allowed a full respec if it's within the first couple months. Especially for little-played characters. Now by full-respec, I'd expect certain things to not change (sphere, major things like clan or auspice or kith...). But it can be hard to fully grok a character or to realize 'I was aiming towards being a ranged fighter, but being a crafting specialist really makes more sense for where I'm feeling this character.'

After that point, I think minor respects are okay within reason. Like @surreality's example. Or someone going through a major life-changing event might adjust someone's Vice/Virtue, or cause a spec to drop...

But the other point to consider is staff workload. I'd only allow things like that once every 4, 6 months. Some people will send requests in to alter shit on a nigh-weekly basis, even when it's not allowed. 'Oh I changed my mind about specializing in X, can I move all of those points?' 'I know I just altered X, but I would really prefer Y'

Everyone is stuck with dots they're not quite keen on. It's just the name of the game.

      Min-maxing in a roleplay-focused environment is lame.

but I'm not sure that feeling like Mage PC #431-9 in a sea of other PCs all clamoring to get involved in the same IG opportunities is fun, either.

      The question is:

What will they provide for the people that get walled off for X weeks? Everyone's gonna get established, settled, grab spots, roll up on any plots running....

Are they factoring in the need to help new people get/feel involved once those spheres reopen? The perk to rolling 'enrollment' as it were is there's a sort of steady stream of new people. But if you're the only ones for the foreseeable future, I can see people (esp. the bad Mage players and the ultra-cliquey Changeling players) making sure they grab up any and everything they can and hoarding.

This is giving me flashbacks to people I knew in the early 00's.

Violence is a thing with these sort of people. I got punched in the head on a crowded train in NYC because I dared voice my opinion (we were all discussing what to do in NYC that day, except apparently my interests were unwelcome.... to the point of punching me so hard I fell).

You page someone and they don't respond. How long do you wait before paging again to see if they disconnected/missed your pose/chose to ignore you?

      It depends.

If we've been actively chatting (back and forth, with responses within a minute or two), I'll nudge after just a few minutes.

If we haven't been, but I double-check and verify they aren't idle on the WHO (esp. if I know they don't use an idle timer), I'll usually ask if they saw it (in case of spam, y'know?) after about 15-20 minutes.

I bought Vampyr. I am not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I wish I could refund it but I went over the 2 hour limit.

The idea of 'destroying relationships you've forged for XP' is interesting, but it falls flat in that literally all you can raise is combat. Nothing you learn can be used outside of combat and combat... is ridiculously easy. It's just a matter of pattern recognition on a simpler scale than Dark Souls.

Except for the odd glitches that mean you get hit even when you shouldn't. Which also irked me.

Combat is actually rather hard for me, but then I've been resistant to kill people. I'm trying to focus on that aspect of being a healer, not cold-blooded-killer. And it ramped up fast for me (but I played about 8? hours the first day I had it).

I will say, I've seen a hint that killing too much brings in something much bigger and worse, so.

The developers said it scales in difficulty based on what you do.

As for Last of Us....... I really need a PS4 soon!

It must have happened with the new update, so fixed now, with the added bonus of making a couple other changes I didn't realize were options.:)

See! All works out. Gives people a chance to review their notification/security options. 😄

I'm not getting a notification circle next to my bell when someone replies to one of my posts, nor are they in the notifications list. Just upvotes and personal messages now.

Perhaps this is a new notification folded into 'when someone mentions you: <action>' in settings. Trying turning it on, but it appeared to have turned itself off. Or @Arkandel's messing with me. Odds are 50/50 either way. 😉

edit: That was it. It's possible that I turned it off for my own sanity, but that doesn't sound like me.

I have noticed that same issue, when people reply to me I am not longer being notified either, and I know I didn't chance any settings.

      Mine is still on.
It's possible it's a flip that came with the new update (as a minor bug, because they altered something, or whatever), since it adapted the Ignore settings.

That is something that bothers me. There are so many phenomenal actresses out there.

There are so many great stories they could tell with them...

      Like this one?

      Or this one?

      This one?

      This?

Sure, if you keep an eye on the blockbusters it will look like women are not getting plum roles in excellent films, but if you keep your eye on excellent films I think you'll find that fine actresses are getting great roles. Laurie Metcalf and Allison Janney were spectacular last year.

Annihilation, aka 'a Hunter team goes into the hedge'. The leads were all women. The men were the secondary characters.

@ganymede Not getting the reference there.

You may be forgetting where this all is. You argued with him earlier, it stopper, but in this post he was responding to me.

If you argue with someone, they're going to reply. You can't restart the argument and then get mad at the other person for the argument.

He disagrees with you. If you want it to be left at that, don't pick the argument back up and harp on it. You have a very strong "how dare you not like what I like" tone coming across in your posts, which is wildly unfair. He's made a number of very valid points, but you're focusing on the "I like this show so everyone else should, too!"

    • RE: RL Anger

I had to read the book last summer as part of my "Writing for kids" course.

The book ends with Clay realizing how important it is to reach out to people. To not hide from or ignore it if someone is struggling. So he goes to renew his friendship with Skye and make sure she knows he "sees" her.

The show seems to be flipping that script and going "the onus is on the person suffering to find someone to listen."

When it's very well known that depression is isolating, that it causes feelings of worthlessness, and makes you feel like no one will listen or care....putting that thought into peoples' heads (especially teenagers) is harmful.

I've only watched episode 1 and part of 2 of season 2, but episode 1 had a blatant moment of Skye struggling, majorly, with her depression and self consciousness in the wake of Clay's behavior and he did nothing. And from what I read of episode descriptions.....it doesn't improve.

So the main lesson he learned in the book was ignored.

      @auspice You guys got warnings?

      We didn't.

The ones before the episodes in season 2. It has the actors all "if you suffer from depression, talk to a parent or teacher or counselor. Talking about it makes it easier!"

      And it's like.

Okay a, your entire show is teaching kids that adults can't be trusted. B, talking does not make it easier for many people.

S1 was good. S2... I felt it stretched things a bit too thin to squeeze another series out.

That's because S1 covered the whole book. S2 is crafted wholesale and it's clear they were just desperate to keep making it.

      @tinuviel said in RL Anger:

@surreality It's also fuckin' terrible. Allegedly they went against every piece of advice from psychologists and therapists when making said series.

I will say their warnings, as someone who has struggled with depression (often severely) make me roll my eyes. They felt like they were very much written by someone who has zero idea what depression really is.

Are the named ones meant to be tougher?

If they've got health on the bottom of the screen, yes. Else they usually have something interesting on their corpse/dialogue if you manage to sneak up on them.

      @insomnia said in Vampyr:

      Are Ultimates worth it?

YMMV. I like Rage, but that's because it's very much a 'fuck you, I'm a fuckmothering Vampire' power.

Abyss is a lot of fun. And it helped a fair bit when I was faced with 2 named hunters + 2 others. Get rid of one of the named with Abyss while focusing on the other.

Plus, who doesn't enjoy seeing someone run through the chest with a shadow tentacle?

I have a tab open on how to do the plant. I can share the link? I've not read it yet.

As for mesmerize, it went up after using it on Cadogan and unless it was reacting to a story element I hasn't unlocked yet....

I don't read the notes as much as I should, but I already get eyestrain squinting at my TV (I need new glasses and/or a desk so I can go back to a standard setup).
