Also, bear in mind, Heather Langenkamp is a name from Nightmare on Elm Street. Ashley Laurence is not reprising the role of Kirsty. IIRC the last one she was in (despite me having a soft spot for it) was apparently a mess and it helped her redo her kitchen.

I'm okay without Doug Bradley as the Hellpriest. I believe there are other people who could have made that role amazing. For example, could you imagine if Bill Nighy had chosen to play Pinhead instead of Viktor in Underworld? I think we would have shit ourselves with how well Nighy might have handled that.

Or even take an idea from the comics and have Doug Bradley escape Hell as Spencer and Ashley Laurence take his place as the Kirsty Hellpriest.

There's a LOT Hellraiser can do, but even now Clive Barker isn't writing this content like he used to. The Scarlet Gospels was disappointing, IMO, and the idea of a Harry D'Amour (Lord of Illusions Bakula character) and Hellpriest showdown was pure fucking gold...but Barker 2017 isn't Barker 1992. It felt off, with a weird Scooby Squad element and another magical negro trope.

Another thing to consider... if they'd let the IP go and a big name studio picked it up... Doug Bradley is not a young man anymore. The likelihood of another studio simply replacing him would have been extremely high.

(Probably by doing a 'reboot' of the series, at that.)

I honestly doubt we'll see another with Clive Barker fully on board, etc... even if Dimension ever lets it go.

Prince Augustus Grayson, on Arx. Hardass super-traditionalist with every word thought out and examined before being spoken. Quiet, reserved, with the gravitas of a seasoned statesman. Basically every one of my favourite character tropes thrown into one man.

I am suspicious. There is no mention of Doug Bradley in the mini-credits at the end. Heather Langenkamp, oddly, but no Doug Bradley.

He's not in it because the director had an insane NDA and he was having none of it. But he has nothing, personally, against the guy who was cast for it and seems to think highly of him.

@tek Thanks! I wish I could figure him out more, and I felt like a jerk about flaking on the TP last week so was a little gunshy. 😞

It happens. Just like me zoning out a lot on y'all last night because I'm brainfried from work lately. RL comes first! 🙂

@auspice Give it three episodes to see if you like the premise. Understanding that there are a lot of things going on right under the surface that start bubbling up in Season 2 & 3. It really is one of the deepest most thoughtful shows on TV right now ... despite being a musical comedy.

I can't even look at the screen with shows/movies re: second-hand embarrassment. If it's one of those shows that leans on it as a primary source of moving plot, it's probably not a show for me.

I confess that even though I absolutely would love to watch this show, I couldn't get past the second episode because the level of second-hand embarrassment it evokes in me is staggering. I'm very susceptible to it in movies/shows and it just... yeah.

I was considering watching it due to how much praise y'all are giving it, but considering I get this to the extreme...

This is true. I was wondering at the direct-to-video. It even has decent names attached to it. It doesn't look terrible. I'll give it a shot, viewing-wise.

I am... so much a visual person. Having trouble following, sorry!

So, I do color changes myself by... I'll crochet until the end of the row, then just pick up the new color, do a simple knot (not finish it, just sort of half-pull through the ends), and when I finish the piece, weave 'em in. It sort of looks like what you're doing.

Here's some videos on methods of adding in colors that might help:

I lose stitches sometimes, but it's suuuuuper easy to make those up in crochet. But what may be happening is you aren't chaining enough on the end of your rows. Just go ahead and add a couple more if needed when you find you're short one or two. 🙂

OK, I am so sorry for the delay getting back to you! I saw this on the bus the other night, went 'Oop! Need to read this later when I'm at home' .... and then I forgot (yay ADD). I just remembered. I suck.

I've actually seen a few temperature scarves, too. They're great! And I'm working on a knit Hufflepuff scarf for someone... which I began a year ago and may be done in two years. Because I find knitting tedious (hence loving crochet!).

One issue I had when I began crocheting and I don't know if this is the same issue, but I will share just in case (and who knows, maybe someone else is having the same issue!) is that I kept crocheting through the front loop only. Oops! Now, some projects will call for this (or call for this on certain rounds). Make sure you're going under both loops of the V (look down at the row from the top, it makes a V) for each chain:

      alt text

Again, it may not be your issue, but it def. was mine starting out! It took me weeks of 'why is this going wrong?!' before I finally found some good pics on a pattern that set off the proverbial lightbulb on that one. It's also why the first row can be so tricksy because getting under the V on the first can bee a PITA (but it also doesn't really matter; if you only go under a single loop on the first, no one's gonna ever notice in the end... just make sure you do on every round after!).

@auspice Are you stretching before you walk? Alternately, is that arch higher than the other?

I've been stretching throughout my mornings before I get to my walk. As for higher than the other- not sure. I had really high arches as a kid/teen, but they're not nearly so anymore.

    • RE: RL things I love

      (a) More a gratitude thing... Apartment building across the courtyard-y area from mine had a fire (from people not following the smoking rules GO FIGURE). I'm just so glad it wasn't mine, 'cause oh man my kitties.

      (b) So I went to check out this "brewskeeball" thing after work today. It's like a bowling league? But... for skeeball. Tonight was the signup party. Only one other girl from the local 'Lady Geeks' group so we just enjoyed the free beer and free skeeball, but! We found out that Wed/Thur nights are free play all the time, so we're gonna try to get the other ladies interested to at least play with us on free play nights and who knows, by the time the next league comes around? Mebbe we'll have a team!

...but hey, for the first time since I moved... I went out blind (I'd never met any of these people before tonight and I've still only met one, but hey!) and hung out and did a thing.

But I learned about brewskeeball! And I talked to people! And enjoyed myself! I mean. The free beer helped. But hey.

ETA: Oh... the Full Circle Bars (other cities host skeeball leagues too and I guess that's like, the common bar names?) also host... Major League Dreidel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vsVnBQo31s

      Other walk/runners:

So my old shoes were causing me a lot of foot pain. Obvs. primarily because the soles were one bad day from full on holes in them. So my Xmas gift to myself (over Black Friday sales) were new shoes. Most days it's like walking on clouds in comparison.

...except about a half mile into my walk each day, I get severe pain in the outside of my arch in my right foot. Once I'm a half-hour (ish) into resting, it goes away and I'm good the rest of the day. I've been rubbing my foot out at night, but it just has not gone away.

      Anyone dealt with similar?

I remember when I found the journal I kept when I began MU*ing a handful of years after the fact. In it, I found an entry I wrote.

I said something to the effects of: 'I found this thing called a MOO. It'll keep me occupied for a couple of weeks.'
