      Watching a team try to build itself back up is always rough. You see a lot of it in the NFL, too.

      My current job cut my hours (again. hence the added scramble for a new job). I'm currently sitting at 'I need every dime I have.'

      Like, my plan was: get new job, ride public transit for a while, save all the extra monies, get car with healthy downpayment.

      I don't have even $300 lying around spare. Any beater I'd get would cost me more in just getting it to function than it'd be worth for the cost of registration, insurance, etc., I imagine. Like there's a fine line between 'vehicle get' and 'why did I sink everything I had into this oh god.' I'm trying to avoid the latter. 😞

      I did just put in for a vehicle loan with the credit union I have. We'll see. Maybe they'll surprise me.

      @Auspice Used vehicle.

      You can get a solid round the town beater for a fair price rather than trying to do anything from a dealer. Craigslist. local newspaper classifieds, etc.

      Give that a shot.

      Certain vehicles like Honda Civics, Toyota Camry's, hell even a Ford Focus are still more than viable at 100,000 miles so long as they had the oil changed regularly. Sure might need shocks and strucks soon, but thats something you can build towards.

      They also tend to get great gas mileage too.

      Just a thought.

      I am looking at used vehicles, but through dealerships.
      I have zero monies right now, right after moving.
      Generally people selling their cars want, y'know, all the monies up front.
      So if someone wants $5k for their car, they want all that $5k right the hell there.
      If I can't get $1k for a down payment, I, uh, am not gonna be able to give someone $5k for their used car. 😐

      No public transportation, I'm guessing?

      @Sunny said in Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff:

      Probably not at those hours. Most transit doesn't start at 3:00am.

      What @Sunny said. I'd be working 4am-1pm. I'd have public transit home from work, but not getting to work. I already checked bus schedules and yeah, last buses in Austin are around midnight/1a and don't start again until around the 6a-8a windows.

      Someone has suggested to me:

      So, the hours would be 4a-1pm.
      And my worry has been: I ain't gonna find an Uber(/Lyft/Fasten) at 3:30a. Just not gonna happen.

      But mebbe I could find one at like, 1am. The office is open 24/7. They have shit like a gym, music room (the office used to be EA Sports and instead of dismantling the recording studio, they set it up for employees to use), etc...

      So I could just go in super early, work out, hang out, etc., for a few hours.

      Good news: pretty sure the interview I have today is gonna land me the job. Which will pay way better than the job I have now, with real legit benefits and errything.

      Bad news: the hours would have me starting before buses are running. I'd have to figure out a car. I've already started the legwork. Seems to be coming down to needing $1k down payment (I don't have) or a co-signer (family won't do). Gonna try talking to places about leasing next.

      @Tempest
      Yeah, this is legit, and I presume it's due to a lack of other plug-and-play alternatives. It's like how that Kushiel's Debut game was running on a modified WoD system, which I always assumed was in part because it's fairly easy to get the pieces to slap together a WoD chargen.

      Pretty much this. FS3 is there and it can be made to work. It's not a perfect solution, but there aren't other solutions unless you're a coder or you have a dedicated coder you can keep around, y'know?

      I plan to use FS3 for my game (modern setting). It's not a perfect fit. You know what would be? FATE.

      You know what we've discussed would be an immense headache and can't really be translated to MU*?

      ... FATE.

      So FS3 is about what I have to work with.

      HOWEVER ... I plan to make the system very, very secondary to the RP. I'm actually way way more interested in everything else AresMUSH can do.

      @Three-Eyed-Crow said in FS3:

      In fairness to at least some of the 'zomg this ruined my RP' (tho not a lot of fairness), the level of customization you can do with the FS3 system (and the spotty way some game-runners document it and what they're doing with it), has led to some wonky shit in implementation (BS Pegasus and its billion non-sensical action skills always LEAPS to mind). I hate the player/staffer, not the game, as it were, but if Wonky Game is all you've played, that's all you've seen.

      This is why alpha/beta periods are always a good idea. Shut off XP gain, get a few good people in, take feedback. Figure out what works, what doesn't. Usually some of those Action skills can be condensed and go away.

    • RE: FS3

      I don't think FS3 'ruins RP' at all. I think the only reason people ever notice is that in more majorly sheeted games, so many people min-max their sheets and then never actually RP to their sheet at all.

      So other games, due to min-maxing, have a total disconnect between sheet and PC. The sheet only 'exists' when dice rolling comes out. On FS3, the sheet 'exists' more consistently. I suppose that's where it may seem like perhaps (to some) it ruins RP.

      To me, however, it more specializes PCs. Instead of everyone becoming 'the same' in the end, you end up with people who are more representative of their parts. A huge tough guy with points dumped in brawn, but fewer in reflexes is going to show that. He might get hit more often, but he'll weather it better and do greater damage when he hits.

      And like Fara has said, it only really comes down to rolling a couple more dice. You'll still see someone with 8 dice roll "Good" while someone with 5 dice rolls a "Great." So it's not like the people with less on their sheets are always doing worse while those with more are always doing better.

      My pilot, who has lower stats (due to being a LTJG as compared to a whole bunch of Captains with Great/Expert scores) had a good weekend this past. She actually did better than almost every other pilot in the combat. However, it was her first good combat in... quite a while! It can happen!

      When I was still living in MD, I went to a lot of Caps games.
      Flat refused to go to the ones where they played the Flyers because the Metro station I took in was the same one they'd go to. Those rides were miserable and often flat out dangerous.

      Fuck the fans that would commute to DC for games.

      Sadly, I only have the one Macbook, so no second machines around. And I won't touch third-party, no. And I don't have a car to be driving around multiple places, sadly. I hit up Best Buy in the hopes they'd have some open-box deals (they had some for other accessories, but sadly none for power adapters).

      So $85 after tax it was. 😕

      Only upsides: the other one had been patched twice over with sugru and I can now leave the AC adapter half of the old one in my bedroom rather than carting it all back and forth each night.

      Is it a MacBook power cord? Because if so, I'm sorry.
