      During the lecture.

"If my mother ever told me I couldn't do something, I'd just go out and prove to her otherwise!"
"Well, that's sort of the whole point of my script."
      "Oh."

      ๐Ÿ˜

I'm not sure how she never got that from the part of my log line where it said "...out to prove to her mother..." but THERE YOU GO.

Are we only allowed to throw our hat in the ring for dating? Because I don't wanna move to Ohio.

But I'd totally throw down for some FWB action.

@Auspice You can always challenge it if she does fail you. I've had to do that before.

It's a thought. It'd be the second time I've had to report an instructor this year. I'm just wondering if I've triggered some sort of complex or something in her. Which, I'd feel kind of bad about. Like, I don't want to make her feel bad about any sort of 'Oh god I could never do that to my kid,' but at the same time... lady, you are instructing a course on story writing. People are gonna write all kinds of stuff. The only direct no go's are extreme gore and rape.

@Misadventure - yeah. It's... not far fetched at all. I'm not delving into fantasy or sci-fi or anything. I really hope in the workshop deal tonight that some of my classmates stand up for me. My anxiety has been on HIGH since she told me on Monday to send her all of my notes so far so she could workshop it live in front of the class. I wish I had a xanax or something. I don't know how I'm going to avoid a full panic attack, tbh.

      @Lithium

Precisely. I've detailed the mother's motivations repeatedly. She lost the girl's father already. She's afraid of losing the daughter (exactly one of the motivations you've listed). The whole premise of the story is the girl proving that she's capable and them growing stronger as a new family in the wake of the tragedy. It works as a story.

Unfortunately, it's a pass/fail course and I'm afraid if I do just power on ahead with the story as I've written it for this script, she'll fail me. ๐Ÿ˜

Class this month is another short film script. My film, in brief...

      Backstory (pre-film):
Girl and her father were in a horrible car accident. Girl's father died. Girl lost (part of) her leg. She's got a prosthetic, has been re-learning to walk...

...in the film, she wants to run in a charity marathon. For people with disabilities. She has a severely (due to the accident) overprotective mother who doesn't think she's ready. The film is about her basically proving to her mother (and, by extension, herself) that she is ready and able to do this thing.

So the end of it is her successfully running the marathon, heartwarming bit with her mother, etc, etc...

...Everyone in my class loves it. Actually have a classmate who does have a prosthetic limb who really digs it and has offered to give me direct feedback with it.

Except my instructor. My instructor thinks the story has absolutely no "structure."

      Her reason?

"No mother would ever discourage their child from trying something new."

That's it. That is her entire reason my story idea doesn't work. And now, tonight, for our weekly lecture/call, the whole class has to sit through her 'workshopping' my film because she alone thinks it doesn't work.

I've been miserable for days over this.

I would actually like to share, re: weight...

I lost about 30lbs since last fall. Which isn't a lot for some of you, but for me it is. I have a lot working against me in the weight loss dept. Hypothyroidism and PCOS (both, for women, make losing weight incredibly difficult), along with fibromyalgia and issues in my knees and hips to where I'm basically not supposed to do the 'basic' exercises like... walking extensively.

My body builds muscle too easily. As in... it'll pull ligaments sometimes because muscle growth/tightness.

Anyway! So! Weight loss? Not easy! That 30 pounds was hard won! And pretty awesome for me. And then I spent 2.5 weeks traveling. Where I ate out a lot. And... drank sodas again. So I got back from that and on Monday, at urgent care (since I've been sick), set foot on a scale. Totally feared how much I'd gained back.

...not a pound. Not one. I guess maybe the eating smaller portions in all that eating out + how active I was while I was traveling helped keep the weight off.

Hm. I can genuinely say I've never seen that one. I wonder if something changed on the Ares side? I'll log into BSGU a bit later and see.

(Also, I apparently missed this thread when I wasn't paying a lot of attention to MSB back in April. Oops!)

I was talking to Fara earlier and she was getting the same, so it seems it may be communication between Ares and Atlantis causing it. If you could peep, it'd be appreciated! โค

So, sharing this here... Gaming podcast my buddy runs. One of the things he posts is the (edited) audio from our (once-a-month) oWoD gaming sessions: https://criticalhints.wordpress.com/

Today's is the CG for our next (Vampire) game. Dunno if that's up anyone's alley (listening to a group of people play TT...). You can hear me be an ADD mess once a month, yay! >.>

Double checking, were the line breaks from the MU*, or from your own output formatting? As in you told it to add a blank line between text strings?

Within the game, not on my (local) end.

AresMUSH's autospacing and player's adding %r in their poses both were stripped out.

    • RE: RL things I love

My earlier work anger has been made up for by receiving a bug from a user.

Apparently, for the Swedish version of the game client... in the 'license agreement,' it simply says:

      'Licensavtalet ska placeras hรคr.'

This translates to: 'The license agreement shall be placed here.'

This is probably my favorite bug report to have submitted, to date, guys.

Grabbing this thread to make an Atlantis query:

I ran a log today and when I opened said log later... all the line breaks from the scene (it was on AresMUSH) were gone. Has anyone else encountered this? I have not made any tweaks within Atlantis for logging.

Anything I can do to fix this so that line breaks remain intact?

For 'security' the parent company of my client super-locked down access to admin portals. Which lost us our access to do a very core component of our job.

The client has supposedly been fighting for us to get our access back.
      For five months.

      Supposedly.

And now they're annoyed at us asking them to perform tasks for us.
      That we can't do.

Like maybe if you guys would get us our access back we wouldn't have to ask you to perform these tasks?
      Just a thought.

Stop using a car to go places. Let your car insurance lapse, stop paying for gas, get a better bike, and some good saddle bags so that you can carry groceries and a laptop and stuff.

That might work great for people that live in the city, in an apartment, who just go to the grocery, entertainment venues and then work/home... but some of us actually NEED vehicles to get things done. I can't imagine hauling lumber, electrical supplies, etc on a bike.

It's not an option for those of us that live in the middle of nowhere, either. My area (Southern MD) is very rural and so spread out that you're pretty much screwed if you don't own a car.

If you live within a handful of miles of everything you need/do, that's an option, but... in some areas (MD is one of them), you have to go a ways to do anything. Maryland was designed in such a way that there's urban centers (shopping, restaurants, etc.) outside of residential areas, so you sometimes have to travel quite far to reach them. I have noticed they're slowly changing that in recent years, but I know when I was growing up and a teenager, it was def. not that way. I tried, before I was driving, to get around and socialize just on a bike and it was not doable when I lived out near horse farms.

Weekend before last (the 3rd), I was on a flight, surrounded by children. So I got to spend last week with the flu.

I still have it. Ended up at the doctor today, afraid I have bronchitis. Oh no, just the flu lingering and with a really severe asthma attack. So I got to spend a bit on the nebulizer, prescribed cough meds, and more 'just keep taking it easy' after already spending a week all feverish.

      Cursed little plague carriers.
(Since I work from home, I am rarely enough around other people, let alone kids, to build up immunities.)

Pretty much on the nose. It's happening to where I used to live in upstate SC, too.

Was renting a 3 bedroom house for $600/mo, had great local restaurants... Now it's these shitty $1500/mo studio apartments, chain restaurants, etc. all going up in the area.
