Personally, I'm hoping for a multi-day (3-5~) recon team mission at some point. But I may be one of the only ones cool with being off the main grid for that long.

I don't know quite where the sweet spot is for campaign length, but a frequent change of scenery is definitely something I think is key to the game's concept. The freedom of being able to go different places was the primary reason I picked a First Cylon War setting over the traditional Second War one.
Yeah, this is what's always made me REALLY want to dig into the First Cylon War as a setting. The holocaust of the reimagined series is INCREDIBLY compelling, but it makes those games difficult to sustain. You always have to kind of reach to find excuses for new PCs to rando show up (though we managed on Cerb and other games), and it cuts off a huge amount of the setting. I love how on BSU you can treat Tauron/Picon/Canceron/Etc. as actual planets that are being tangibly fought for, not just blasted wastes people occasionally get sentimental about.
I've actually wanted to do a First War game for a really long time, as a number of people have known. So I was really excited when I learned about BSU.

Dude. Your inability to tetris the fuck out of a 9x9 quilting board is not my fault. :<

I fucking love Patchwork.

Regarding setting up combat-
When I run combat in FS3 (this goes back to all FS3 games I've been on), I will set it up in advance of the scene. Often hours before. And if I have moar mobs coming in later, I'll keep the commands in a notepad file to copy and paste in a Notepad file. -

RE: Plots and Spoilers
Like some folks have said, I think a warning of 'There is the potential for gore or extreme visual horror in this plot' could work, or even as a general label on your plots would suit.
As mentioned, someone going to a horror film knows there are going to be jump scares. They don't know where or when, but they know they'll happen. It doesn't ruin the jump scares or the film in the least, so I don't think it will ruin your plot if people are aware that there's the possibility of those things occurring at some point in time.

Today is one of those 'I hate the universe so much I'm eyeballing the bottle of Vodka and considering drinking it straight' days.

RE: RL Anger
@Auspice A coworker of mine was really sleepy when he got on the subway and figured he'd close his eyes and take a nap there even through he was worried he might miss his stop. He woke up and saw - to his relief - he was just two stops from his destination.
Then he realized it was three hours later.
...hopefully he felt rested at least!
-
RE: RL Anger
I set an alarm (apparently not) so I could close my eyes for 'a few minutes.'
I didn't sleep at all last night because of my migraine. It just wouldn't let me. I just wanted a brief nap while trying to push through the work day. Just a few minutes to get caught up. Just to rest my eyes during a moment in which the blood vessels weren't so tight I wasn't seeing flares of light every few seconds.
...I slept four hours instead. Which, I needed the sleep, but fuck. I hope I don't get in too much trouble with work.
I really really really really wish I had PTO for days like this.

RE: RL Anger
This isn't anger so much as it is.. 'ugh'...
I had a student ask me, for the first time in my (admittedly short) career why the save icon in Word was a strange symbol.
Kill me now.

RE: RL Anger
Totally agree with the above, by the way. Especially on a long-term scale.
My migraines? Daily average is probably around a 4-5, with days that hit a 6.
But after a few months, I hit about a day a week where I seriously do just consider walking into the neuro and begging them for the paperwork and everything to get on short-term disability or similar on my insurance because just keeping up is hard.
Even moderate pain gets to where you just can't manage... so even if you sit there and in that every moment go 'Well, yah, this isn't the worst thing' but if you have to consider dealing with it day after day, you know it'd get hard. So make sure to consider that, as well, when talking to a doctor. Could you, feasibly, handle it if it went on long term. If the answer is no... make sure to communicate that to your doctor.

@Cupcake I'm definitely wincing and I hope that you feel better soon. I also strongly urge you to get an MRI. X-rays often miss things.
I'll 2nd MRI. Joint areas, there's always the risk of having pulled something just-so and ending up with bone spurs... which are no fun and not generally caught by x-rays, but cause some really uncomfortable pain.

RE: Emotional separation from fictional content
@Roz
That's sort of how I feel about the thread. I'm not suggesting that an ST list a major trigger as being part of their intended scene to take the onus of 'therapist' onto their shoulders, but to sort of open that door of communication. To say 'I know this maybe a potential issue, so I want to make sure you are forewarned and prepared. So you know that if this will be an issue, that this isn't the plot for you.' and so that people that don't know you also know, in the future, that you're probably pretty open-minded to talk to if, say, something comes up someday (perhaps on a future plot) that they struggle with. It puts the sign on the door that says 'My door is open, I'm cool. You may not need it today, but it's there the day you do.'
So that next week, when you run the scene without a warning, but midway through something totally different irks them (maybe they're having a clash with another player and unsure how to handle it), they feel that extra layer of comfort reaching out to ask 'Hey, can I get your help resolving this?'.
We stress and stress and stress and stress communication here and a lot of what I keep seeing on this thread is well the other person needs to come to me, first.
...which is kind of a failure to communicate, itself. I don't give a fuck how awesome you think you are, if you're new on a game, Bob has no clue whatsoever if you're someone he can actually sit down and work something out with.

I had, also, but between work and school, it was just overwhelming. That game moved at the speed of Too Much.

RE: Emotional separation from fictional content
I would like to clarify:
I am not at all suggesting anyone list all possible triggers. I am suggesting to list intended generalized themes that could be major triggers.
If you know, in advance, that you are using a monster which is going to try to utilize mind control to force someone to rape someone else (I have seen this)... that is something that you can place up front as a warning for players.
Rape, body/victim horror, child abuse... These are major triggers for some people and I think it might potentially be polite to toss out a warning to go 'This is an intended part of this story.' You're not listing out every little nitpicky detail, but a major aspect of your plot that also happens to b a major theme. You are offering up a measure of communication.

Migraines still a thing.
Not so bad day to day.
Or maybe I've just sort of given up on normal life.Doctor is moving me up to 150mg.
All talk of injections is gone. -
RE: Emotional separation from fictional content
My issue with something like Shang's list is it's so fucking massive. But I think a 'general themes' could be covered.
Like 'drugs,' 'domestic abuse,' etc. Reno has, for example, its Core Themes for beats. Maybe STs could provide a list of 'This scene may include the following themes...' It need not be extensive, but have just a sort of general overview of common themes.
That way people have a heads up or to know OK, maybe sit this one out. It'd set a stage of communication, at least. Hell, doesn't even require code. Just an extra line in the +event listing.
'Themes: Alcoholism, domestic abuse' in a Law plot in which cops have to investigate a call for a domestic disturbance. Gives a bit of a heads up, you don't have to comb over every possible thing, but it also lets your players know that you're aware that such things can be an issue for some and potentially approachable if an issue does arise.

Were you the Lou who was playing on Arx when I started there (late September of last year), or did you pre-date my time as Aislin?
I was! I was the first Lou. I had her from then until the end of December, when I had to finally step away because it was Just Too Much.

Updated. Retired a character. Added another. Got talked into staffing again somehow.
