Don't care either way. It always struck me as kind of weird that those posts tend to come from guests or throwaway PCs. If you really wanted to make people want to come to your game, wouldn't it be better to have a person familiar with both games there to answer questions/help get people connected? Drive by postings are like ads you see barfed on webpages back in the days before all the scary info collection that make the ads at least make sense most of the time.

Even when I had no life, I still preferred to try games that had SOMEONE willing to vouch for them publicly!

I fully support games that don't allow ads from Guest/Throwaway accounts (char must be approved). I rarely post ads, but it's only when I've played both games, am happy with both, and would be willing to help folks from Game A acclimate to Game B and vice versa.

Because, yes, I like going places that have been vouched for. Totally makes for a better experience.

I was in the beta(or super early FTP release, I forget which), too, but got to the grinding hell of the mid level 20s. That saved me from the game. I've heard they fixed that stretch of the game, but the endless wind sprint fetch quests of the middle of the game really left a bad taste in my mouth.

The first 20 levels was fantastic, though, I'm tempted to jump back in and take another swing at it.

With the current 250% XP boost until April 10th, you can do just class quests and still hit level 20-25 by the time you're off the starting planet. No need for grinding at all!

I came across this article today.

I've got myself in the queue to get her book from my library.

I grew up in that environment of negative emotions, even in sensical situations (didn't get the part in the play, broke a limb, etc. type things) being unacceptable.

I've had those people over the years who berate me about thinking positive, to the point I was making things worse because I'd end up shaming myself for being 'unable' to be positive.

This woman doesn't speak about giving over to the negative emotions, but instead to acknowledge them, accept them, and find the root cause so that you can move forward. I've been doing this in a way (largely due to a therapist who has helped me understand that it is OK to feel, even if it's a negative emotion) and I have felt so much better. I'm happier now, embracing those emotions, than I was when I'd beat myself up for not 'thinking positive.'

But no longer. Instead it's just... a variety of knives conveniently placed (for me) around my room.

It's important to have options for the zombie apocalypse. You can only stab zombies with the same knife for so long before it gets boring.

      I know, right?

@Monogram You have to admit, that 250% xp bonus is REALLY NICE. >.>

I played in the SWtOR beta, pre-ordered, and then cancelled my pre-order because I was afraid of how intensely it was sucking me in. No MMO has ever captured my attention the way it does.

(I'm on Bergeren Colony if anyone ever wants to play. I'm slowly working on completing the main story on all classes, so I should have a character or be able to kick one up for whatever.)

Are you on the lease? Do you own a firearm?

These are the two main questions I would have. Because I do pack heat. And I am usually the only signor on the lease.

Come in unannounced? Ohio's got the Castle Rule. Landlord finds a stranger here? We're out on the street.

It's really as simply as that.

The answer to those used to both be yes. The sole name on the lease and firearm. >.>

I do want a gun again someday, but I plan to get proper training vs the South Carolina method of 'let's go out to X's property and shoot at random things.'

Normally, I'm polite to people coming to the door, but my goal is to get them to go away as quick as possible. I take their religious track, make nice and send them on their way. God the Mother people came by and I was like wait, what? That one, I admit I totally took the time to hear out.

Right?! They're kinda fascinating. Like there's this level of crazy and you're just like 'yes please tell me more.'

...I do have a kigurumi (they're those onesies that have like, animal patterns >.>). It's my 'I'm sick and cranky and just want to be cozy' outfit.

Regarding religious folks... I haven't had any come by in a while. The Mormons that came through were for the Spanish LDS church. But then they sent the English ones. Usually I just ask them how long they've been on their mission, what they plan to do after, etc.

My favorite, really, was the cult based on 'God the Mother.' They were kind of fascinating, actually.

For all she knows, I go around naked when she's not here.

(No, I don't, but sometimes I do wander around in a robe before/after I shower.)

I'll be staying with someone for 2 weeks end of March / beginning of April (traveling to attend a wedding and making it a longer trip so I can do some tourist-y stuff). They have a roommate. I work 'from home' during the day. But they informed their roommate and got the go ahead a few weeks ago.

That, to me, is the difference.

I just hate feeling like the bad guy. Years ago (I was... 22?), I worked 3rd shift. Got home one day, 5am, and walked in to find three people I'd never met just hanging out in the living room.

      "Where's <roommate>?"
"Oh, she went to work. She said it'd be cool if we hung out."
"Alright, well... I'm about to go to sleep and I don't feel comfortable with you guys being out here. Please go."

Roommate was pissed at me for weeks.

This guy has been over here pretty much every day/night for almost 2 weeks, but never without her until now. So maybe that was her logic- that I'd 'gotten to know' him enough. I don't know. I'll have to bring it up tomorrow (since I'll be asleep before she gets home tonight). Well. Try to bring it up tomorrow. Confrontation gets me super anxious.

    • RE: RL Anger

My main reasoning of him being new is they've had talks (while in the same room I'm in, so it's not like eavesdropping) about her not wanting him to meet her friends or coworkers yet.

It's possible he's been a secret for a while, but from interactions between them and conversations I've had with them, I'm about 95% certain he's new.

He drives for Uber/Lyft and usually does so overnight. Maybe he wanted to sleep more before driving home after dropping her off at work. But I'd have appreciated a heads up, a text message, something other than just him waltzing in the door without her.

I've got someone coming into town next week. I've let her know they'll be around during the day (and since I work from home, obvs I'll be here)... but they have a hotel. I'd considered asking her about them crashing here for the visit, but decided y'know, that's a bit much to thrust onto someone who doesn't know this person themselves.

      ...now I kinda wish I had. 😐

I'm trying to manage my anxiety enough to do so. 😕

Unfortunately, she works second shift and I'm usually in bed / asleep when she gets home. And I don't feel quite comfortable texting her about this.

By and far, my roommate has been pretty awesome. I mean, this lady enjoys washing dishes.

But she got dumped by her boyfriend a couple weeks ago. And less than a week later, was seeing a new guy. Alright, cool, we all do the rebound thing.

This guy isn't bad. He's just loud and never shuts up, but whatev.

...except he walked in, using her key, while she is at work. I was not informed of this.

I mean, I never put a caveat in the roommate agreement of 'no visitors here when you aren't,' but I've always considered it a sort of unspoken rule. To at least give your roommate(s) a heads up. 'By the way, my current bed warmer is gonna hang out for a bit while I go to work.'

    • RE: Roleplaying writing styles

I saw MOO 'socials' referenced a bit earlier. The verbs used (like 'hug <name>' or similar). In my experience (my first few years in the hobby were primarily MOO), those were always used in an OOC context.

So if a good friend logged in, I might type 'hug <name>' rather than 'p <name> :hugs!'

I, personally, never saw a game that used them as IC things because only the two people involved saw them and they weren't isolated to being in the same room (like Arkandel's MUD example).

I do use metaposing to supplement body language. Something like 'her shoulders round and tighten, in an almost defensive gesture.' Because similar body language can have different meanings... but while you'd be able to tell the difference IRL, explaining it in text is harder. So it's easier to give the context that someone would read 'in person.' I do also crack jokes (often at my character's expense) in poses.

My scene sets can be long. I know there was a joke at one time, 'Page long set? Must be an Auspice set.' 90% of the time it'd be in situations where an RP Room was being used and thus there was no desc, or the room we were in represented a very large area (such as 'The Park' but the scene itself was being done around a specific fountain). And no, it's not one page sans line breaks. I use line breaks, don't worry. 😉

After the set, though, most of my poses tend towards the 5-8 line sweet spot... But it does depend on others in the scene. Mind, that usually only angles me to shorter poses. I generally can't be arsed to keep up with massiveposes for long at all.

...unless it was a gdoc with @Ghost. I don't know what it is about our RP, but we would have some long, descriptive poses. It was fun, but no one draws it out of me like he does. That bastard.

He said the one thing that is probably the most educational and human thing I ever learned in college:

"This is the only thing you have ever handed me, smiling."

      ...and he's right. It matters.

This is why I finally began working on the degree for writing. It'll be hard to find work in it, but I enjoy it. Even the non-creative stuff.

I get people who ask me about it. 'I love writing for RP and fanfic! How can I get a job like that?'

One of the freelance gigs I had, I was writing copy for 'blogs.' What this guy really did was buy up dozens of sites along the lines of <city>plumber.com and then it'd redirect to his commercialized deal (aka he gets paid if people book a plumber through it). So I was writing SEO-optimized copy for these scummy ass blogs trying to take advantage of people.

...a lot of the writing out there is like that. And I was lucky he paid well. There's people who think offering $5/article is "good pay."

But I enjoy it. I enjoyed even that soul-sucking garbage above because it was writing. It's the only thing I've ever done that doesn't rapidly make me hate waking up to work every day. It's why I can work 40 hour weeks at my paying job and then put in 20-40 hours a week on school.

Flea market/swap meet vendor (from all the stuff I dumpster dived for with friends on move out day of the dorms each year. The highest paying gig of all!)

I did this for about 6 months while between jobs. It really can pay well once you find the right niche.
