I just found out about Austin WitchFest today (one-day festival that'll have it's first event in March) and I'm already excited. $5 for a ticket is not bad and I love the witch markets I go to sometimes.

Shared it with a coworker I know who is gothy ("Hey, this might be making a leap, but....." and I was right, she is all about it XD) and we geeked out a bit. ๐Ÿ˜„

      I'm the opposite.
I couldn't finish the first episode of Witcher. I felt like I was watching a Labyrinth fan fic wherein the director went 'ok now let's pretend they're all serious but not lol'

Mandalorian was so much more engaging.

      'Vampires in SpAAaaAAAace'

This was a movie once. Particulary, Dracula in Space.

      Let's not. Nooo.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracula_3000

The Veldt was also a TV episode on a Twilight Zone-esque show in the 70s. And it was terrible.

Just because something was done bad once doesn't mean it's always bad (or else we'd have all given up everything vampire after Twilight).

Thing 1) this just cause a longer account of what's happening in the room/AI/whatever (kids plotting to kill parents) would be interesting.

My concept for it is to delve further into the psychiatrist (McClean) and use him as the protagonist. Expand on the whole world since it's very obviously a cyberpunk (though the term didn't exist back when the story was written) world. You have an automated home that caters to everyone's needs. A 'nursery' that gives children a fully immersive (holodeck-like) experience to play out stories.

I see it being a man investigating similar cases and trying to uncover what's going on behind the scenes of the 'Happy Home' megacorp.

This thread seems suitable for this..

I am debating what to work on during the period of unemployment I may have (I am applying for things, but I still might hit end of January and not have something yet). I have two projects I've been wanting to do, it's a question of which one.

Option A) Feature-length script based on Bradbury's short story, The Veldt.
The very first time I listened to this song, the movie came to me. I have some notes on it, some rough outlines/concepts worked up, and a crystal clear vision of the final scene. However, I've only written short films and outlined one feature length. I've never written a feature length and the idea is daunting.

Option B) Cyberpunk vampire. I mean, there's a lot more to it than that, but those two words sum it up nicely. Or if you want three words: 'Vampires in SpAAaaAAAace'
This is something I've been picking at for over a year now. I have about a notebook's worth (spread out across a few notebooks since one is 'Story.' one is 'Characters,' etc...) of details. I've written a short story about one of the characters to get to know him better.

I need to just pick one and focus on it. Unfortunately, both appeal to me quite a bit.

      Screaming

I had emailed my recruiter to ask if she had any other contracts to put me up for because I like working with her (I do and it's not just because she takes me out to lunch once a month).

She emailed me back saying they've extended my contract to the end of January. It's not much but it's something and assuages some of my financial fears and helps me recover from 'flu and depression made me take too long to update my resume'.

MD, OH, SC... all just give you a single Detour sign that may as well be a 'don't fucking go this way' because you never see another one.

Ohio works like this - when you follow a detour sign, stay on whatever route or road it has told you to take until another detour sign says otherwise. So make sure to note whatever state route number or county road name the detour sign is having you take, because that's the one you need to stick to until otherwise notified. You might reach a fork in the road, but you won't be given a detour sign telling you which to take, because it is assumed you are sticking to the route number or county road you were told to follow to begin with. It might be 50 miles later, but you will eventually see another detour sign that alerts you that you have been reconnected with the route or road you were originally on.

      less effective in Cincinnati. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am still batting around the idea of an archipelago world filled with Monarchies of Mau-ish elves (or maybe humans) sailing on the high seas! It'll probably never see the light of day, but it's rattling around in my brain case.

But if Auspice gets a Space Truckin' game going, I'll poke my head in, play around a bit, and steal ideas.

Oh it won't be my game. I just got approached by someone else in that 'hey I hear you know stuff about things'

and I went 'I sure do know things about stuff'

@Auspice Sometimes I have to wonder if states handle detour signs like they do senators: every state gets X many, and we're just smol.

I'm sticking with my headcanon that Delaware steals them from other states

Do you have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is for us to have to dedicate parts of our garages to those signs? Our property taxes are so low because of that commandeering of garage space. ๐Ÿ˜

Somewhere in... 2003? Perhaps early 2004, I was visiting the guy I was dating in Delaware and there'd been massive, massive rain storms. The road I took in (and mind you, this is pre-GPS and I'd plotted my trips using physical maps to avoid the Baltimore I-95 toll) was flooded out. I saw a detour sign.

I had that sinking sense of dread of being sent off on a terrible path that I'd be unlikely to recover from.

      But then another Detour sign.
      And another.
And so on until I was perfectly led around the washed out road.

MD, OH, SC... all just give you a single Detour sign that may as well be a 'don't fucking go this way' because you never see another one.

      ergo, Delaware has them all.

...nobody show that image to any civil engineers from New Jersey, or we're really in for some shit.

ETA: For those unfamiliar, it is the land of traffic circles, jughandles, and cloverleafs. 'Traffic circle' is the mid-atlantic US way of saying 'roundabout'.

ETA2: Put it this way, they would rather send you in a half mile loop over state lines and back again than let you just make a left turn.

That is because Jersey is hell and Delaware took all of the East Coast's detour signs.
