There is a roundabout that has three 'out/in' parts in front of my apartment complex. One road leads to a little offshoot that connects to the main city roads. One splits off to a little-used road with parking for half-filled office buildings. The third leads to my fairly large apartment complex. When you enter the complex from the city roads you nave to go all around the circle before exiting to the complex.

ROUTINELY though, people go the WRONG WAY in the roundabout just to skip a few seconds of going the right way.

It pisses me off because it's just an accident waiting to happen.

DON'T DRIVE THE WRONG WAY. It took all my power to not park next to this idiot and yell at him.

Unfortunately, your average American is approximately 10 times worse at using a roundabout than they are at 4-way stops (we've all experienced THAT GUY who thinks because the person in front of him went, he gets to go, too).

I dread roundabouts because I know someone is gonna go the wrong way or they're gonna cut across lanes (if it's one of the bigger, multi-lane ones: Austin has a few) or they're gonna cut people off because they don't know how merging works.

      Stuff irking me today:

      • People who are so impatient during rush hour that they will use the shoulder to cut someone off.
      • Being so out of breath constantly that just washing a few dishes and heating up some frozen waffles (all my plates were dirty and my dishwasher doesn't work) wore me out.
      • My cat refusing to leave me the fuck alone so I can eat (he has food; bowl is freshly filled).2

@Auspice Google "free clinic" in your city.

I'll check again but in the past I've come up empty on this sadly.
And in my experience, from when I went to one in SC, they base eligibility on your previous month's Financials....which I have a final paycheck coming next week and everything looks 'ok' at a glance until you factor in how it's just enough to cover my bills until maybe the second week of February. 😕

I do have insurance for the moment but it's that 'we'll pay for a percentage until you hit deductible' kind so doc visits still run about $140.

I'm just crossing fingers that one of the job leads I have out there pans out fast. I talked to a recruiter yesterday about one that'd pay better than this one and that'd be cool.

      Where's the pain?

      Might be a cracked rib.

I dunno how I might have cracked a rib tbh.

It's left side of my chest. Doesn't happen every time I fully inhale but still often enough that I know I'm not getting enough air since I breathe shallow to avoid the pain.

@TNP - that's what my initial search came up with after a comment made on NOLA. And it is basically 'see a doctor' except I'm two days from unemployed.

Also I like the YT videos where people buy stuff off of Wish to compare it to the 'real deal' or ... to itself. I've found there's def. things valid to buy off Wish as opposed to mainstream stores.

      Clothes? Not so much.
Crafting odds and ends? Yes. (like mini-cross-stitch frames for jewelry? $18-20 on Amazon, $5-7 on Wish.)

@mietze This sounds very much like the flu I went through a handful of weeks back. I'm sorry. 😞

I had one day where my alarm went off and I thought 'maybe I should call in again' and ended up passing back out for another few hours... at which point I woke up, emailed my boss/coworker just to say 'As you can see, I clearly won't be in today. Sorry.' and then proceeded to sleep another 5 hours.

It was very much like you describe. Just not functioning despite having the mental acuity to where you should be able to function.

      thank you.

      ...and yes. Pretty much.

For a couple weeks now, any time I try to take a full/deep breath, there's this hitch and a sharp pain I have to get through first. I've figured it's just a side-effect of allergies and the allergy meds aren't doing their job

      but uh, apparently no. 😐

ETA: also I love the kitty-cyberdoc on panel 3 so much

I've voted Republican in every coroner election I've ever voted in, because the Republican is the only one with a medical degree.

The last election I was in SC for, there was.... some really minor city position up for election and the Republican was running unopposed. And we're talking REALLY MINOR POSITION. But I knew people who went into a tizzy that it was a PLOT and the DEMOCRATS HAD BEEN WALLED OUT.

.....the Republican was the only one qualified who also wanted to run.

Like sometimes it is not some EVIL THING but literally just: this person has the education/training.

And that's my fear with stuff like coroner, judges, and all being elected positions. The homgwhatifsomeonewhoisn'tqualifiedandisjustgoodatself-marketinggetsin.

Judges are more biased and jaded than juries. Also, in several jurisdictions, including mine, they're elected.

my state is like this and it bothers me on so many levels. Stuff like chief of police, judge, medical examiner should not be elected positions IMO. Or if they're elected in some way should be nominated/voted on by their own peers. aka people who can vouch they know their shit.

Those packs of tortellini and a jar of alfredo sauce are a p common dinner for me. Boil tortellini, drain, add alfredo, cook a little more to heat the alfredo, maybe add some heavy cream or parm if I have them.....

It's just the right level of 'effort' that I can manage it (the fact that it is super carb rich doesn't hurt).
