    • RE: The Work Thread

So, at my job, contractors often have to sit at just... like.. a long table, side-by-side. It is a terrible setup. Like hey here have just enough desk space for your laptop and two monitors. Room to work? What room? Privacy? What privacy?

Because of how closely I work with my team, I've had a desk. Like, a proper desk. With space.

But my team is moving and they'll be sitting next to one of the contractor work areas, so I have to move to it.

Gonna suck for whoever sits next to me because I usually have notebooks and folders and papers spread out while I work.

Why does any PC need more than 1 room, if the issue is grid bloat?

If it's a house that has multiple characters living in it or the PC also has a business that serves another purpose, sure, but the 'I need 10 private rooms' thing seems a like a different problem/a problem that can be solved by staff saying 'you actually don't need 10 private rooms, no.'

Sadly, on some of the games I've played, Staff is just as guilty. So then you're there as the Builder like 'I think we need to restrict rooms' at the same time they're like 'HAY CAN YOU BUILD OUT MY TWENTY ROOM MANSION FOR ME PLZ'

As someone who started their staff life as a builder, I can't tell you the amount of times that I've had someone request 10+ room builds because clearly the bedroom needs a master bathroom, that's gonna see a lot of RP,

I've been build staff on a few WoD games now and I limit people by Resources.
'Oh you have Resources 1 but you want a 10 bedroom mansion? HA HA NO'

I dislike huge grids. I know some people love them, but when a city is broken down STREET BY STREET what I see a lot of is each street having 0 or maybe 1 point of interest on average and then most of those that exist being defunct.

Grid a city by district. It's SO much easier to navigate and you can then cluster together the points of interest.

But I can count on my hand the number of times I've had a 'street room' scene and have fingers left over.

making my bed was the solution for boycat.

He's been happily flopping around on it all evening. Guess the OTHER familiar smells of all my STUFF wasn't enough. He needed the bed.

My poor boy cat is traumatized.

Since I adopted him (Sept 2017), he has never left the apartment. He's never wanted to. You could leave the door wide open and he wouldn't go near it.

He cried walking to the car. He cried walking to the new place. In the car he was fine.

He stayed in his carrier (door open) for hours before venturing out to get pets when I laid down for a bit.

The girl cat on the other hand? She complained while she was in her carrier, but otherwise is just happy to be with me. I ate pizza with her sprawled happily on the floor next to me. But she's been on a cross country flight and moved from Seattle to Austin with me. She's a trooper.

I'm beat. I'm so beat I can't even think straight.

Every time I move is harder than the last. It doesn't help that I woke up this morning to one of those horrendous leg cramps.

But it's almost done. I just need to get some more stuff out of the truck (I am paying someone to do this; my right ankle keeps twinging on me bad) and then go tomorrow to get the stuff from my fridge and clean the old place.

I'm glad to be in a complex that's higher rated and seems to actually care about doing right by its residents. I'm definitely glad to be paying less for more room.

But I do not wanna move again anytime soon unless I can afford movers.

I vastly prefer having a CG room. Like @eye8urcake said, it helps break things down neatly and room descs can have all the vital Information available

I do warn against having it teleport someone there because I've often typed 'cg' to check something or verify I'm remembering the command on Ares. I'd hate to get teleported away suddenly.

    • RE: To OOC Room or Not to OOC Room (and Other Artifacts)

      I like OOC rooms.
I spent years on games without them and I often felt isolated. Like I was playing inside a vacuum with just a couple other people. Mostly because the public channel would be too much spam and/or I'd forget to turn it back on after turning it off to rp. So I'd have group or area channels which.....adds to that isolated feel.

Many games, also, don't offer private rooms for everyone. So you find yourself constantly waving off rp if you're just on to do mail or talk to people.

All the complaints about them exist in other means (and can/should be policed by staff). But I absolutely find benefit in them for helping me feel more ingratiated to the game....and I say this as someone who had to have words (as staff) with someone who was causing issues in the ooc room. I'd rather do that and leave people a place to interact than have none and find people not even bothering to login because they feel they're being forced IC at all times.

I did get the help with the deposit! Yay

...........my plans to move a bunch of stuff over today are, however, stymied by the fact that they just finished setting up the apartment this morning which included new appliances (cool) ......but left the old fridge at the top of the stairs. There's enough room to squeeze past but carrying boxes past is p much out of the question.
