@Kanye-Qwest I mean sure. That is why staff should have PCs.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
Arx's elevation situation isn't going to fix itself without a domain system, and a domain system is probably going to change so much that everyone's going to bitch about it and nobody is going to be very happy about it. And tbh I don't even know if it is possible to implement a system with how much IC handshaking agreements have gone on, growth, etc., without resetting everybody back to 0 and starting over again and boy is that gonna cause another 30 pages on the peeve board (maybe even more!)
I don't know what the solution here is except that Arx can't be all the things and I don't know if it being a mini civ game is the right direction for it anyway. Maybe the BEST solution at this point would be to just let the PC houses continue to grow as they will with some rails in place. If that means there's 6 or 7 or 14 Great Houses? I don't really see what the PROBLEM is, as long as the population can sustain that many Great Houses, and everyone's given the same rules and guidelines to follow.
The only issue I personally took with Pravus is that NO ONE ELSE had the rulebook here and so not all houses were on the same page (or even in the same book). And you can say "well they didn't ask" but there should've been something written.

RE: The Savage Skies - Discussion Thread
It's super extreme under any circumstances to suggest that administrators are racist, or that the game has "wrong racial feels" or whatever just because they don't outright ban or alt-history every single bad thing that anyone ever did in that time period. Like, I wouldn't go around thinking @Seraphim73 or @GirlCalledBlu were racist even if they DID allow Nazis, or racism, or sexism, because omg you can explore these themes on a game without being racist, sexist, and/or a Nazi yourself.

RE: The Game Game
@saosmash I mean not only is it healthy for that but like - think of how Arx for example would be if there were a few other L&L games that satisfied what some people are looking for. You could have your super hyper political L&L game over there, your "let's make babies" L&L game over here, and Arx right where it is with nobody trying to make Arx ALL THE THINGS because it's not exactly what they're looking for.
It just takes the pressure off of admin, imo.

RE: A bit of trouble on Firefly
Here is the record of my chat convo with him. When he messaged me, I was already aware who he was.

Hello Bear.B bear_necessities
Oh hey! I was hoping you'd reach out. When are you going to post about us on MSB? I have been waitingZ ZombieKerouac
Oh I will be, After I have my fun and see about some old friends starting their own. All I wanted to do was talk Bear.B bear_necessities
cool good luck! can't wait to readZ ZombieKerouac
If you two had bothered actually having a dialogue last night before the bullshit ban. None of this would be happening. So, Do you want to talk or do we keep up this little game?
B bear_necessities
you are very sinister, is scary i can't talk to you, you're too terrifying. pls post to msb, would be much better.Z ZombieKerouac
Because while Faraday may be good, She is no Ashen.I am not sinister or scary. If you bothered to be an adult and discuss things you might actually realize that. And if you think I am bad? You really may want to give up on game administration since there are far worse people out there. Who do things for fun rather than as reactionary amusement.
B bear_necessities
OK well I can't wait for your MSB post so get right on that please.Z ZombieKerouac
You built a game that is intentionally exclusive and puts people into two separate cliques as soon as they hit the game. Townie vs Outsider which in and of itself is prone to cause problems in the long termYou can't seem to discuss things and have an open dialogue with your players which will also only cause issues in the long term.
Hiding behind bans and your co-staffer when you can't get those big girl panties on all the way and be an adult.
I actually had someone ask me when you denied my app the second time given the flimsy excuse for it being rejected if I somehow managed to piss one of you off.
And honestly with you all banning me for nothing last night? It does seem that way. And your general disregard for actually discussing issues.
The question is: Are you and Karma actually adult enough to discuss shit rather than hide behind bans and one another.
Z ZombieKerouac
And look I claimed all your rosters again. -gasp- and was online as a guest.Nice try though keep at it and maybe one day you will learn how to properly handle thins.

RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP
@Alamias Yes, Gray Harbor is my game which I made specifically because of the lack of those kinds of games My point still stands, and the popularity that both Spirit Lake and my game have seen are a result of a lack of games in those categories.
@Groth I'm going to disagree to a point. Like, I think people want that. But I also think people really want the whole "low-to-medium powered humans vs supernatural" where there aren't a bunch of werewolf PCs running around. There's been a few of those games with PC everythings that've cropped up and never really got popular, I just don't think there's as much of a demand to play werewolves as it there is to play humans with a little bit of something extra.

RE: Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)
This survey was great and now all I can think about is an erotic RP MU* where I can farm dick cows and craft lingerie.

@derp said in GMs and Players:
Yeah, you would call the police because the police are there to deal with shit like that. Which is also kind of the point.
I actually think you're purposefully missing all the points here which makes this not a very constructive thread.

But there's also one thing that's being ignored in this conversation: does the game have an 'automatically banned from this game' list? I mean, if it's the person you're referencing, I'd think he'd earn a spot on that list.
Yes.
I think @faraday said something that really resonated with me and that is that MUSHing is a community. I talk to my players almost daily on the chat chan or in pages - I may not consider them my RL friends, but I do consider them 'friends' in the sense that I care about them, I'm investing my time to spend time with them, and I consider my players important in the community we have created, even if I 'decorated' the room. Some of the players on my game are people I've known for years. One is my BFF, a few are people I would consider my RL friends, a lot of the rest are friends-of-friends or friends-of-friends-of-friends. But I mean what matters (to me) is we created a really cool community and it is my job as staff to make sure that community stays cool.
I learned the hard way that just because someone doesn't have evidence, doesn't mean it isn't happening to them (see @krmbm's post). I gut-check even more now and tend to keep an eye on people that raise my red flags. Not everybody is going to have logs that are a smoking gun of terrible behavior. Manipulators are manipulative because they tend to do things that are less overt and convince people NOT to log, NOT to report, etc.

RE: GMs and Players
@roz said in GMs and Players:
That does not mean that you have to simply believe each and every report that comes your way. There is a measure of common sense to be deployed here. If you have a long-term player who has a visible history of getting on well on the game, who does not have a history of making a lot of complaints, such that receiving a complaint from them is notable -- that is very different from receiving a complaint from someone who makes them regularly and frivolously and who maybe has had more than one complaint made about them. Someone making a clear, serious request involving stalking or targeted harassment is different from someone making a request about not getting along with someone. Yes, absolutely engage in judgment and critical reasoning here. Absolutely. But if a player's history on a game points to them being generally above board? That's also a form of evidence.
This is what I wanted to say but you said it best so thank you

RE: GMs and Players
I guess I've yet to see why you would need to puppet an NPC and write dirty-talk to someone for several hours for story purposes. If pillow talk is what you're trying to gain out of it, why not FTB the sex and get straight to doing the pillow talking?
I have had a staff try and use an NPC to TS me. I felt intimidated, I felt like if I said no it would affect my ability to stay on the game, and thus I did not stay on the game. And maybe it all boils down to trusting staff, sure, but again - what story purpose does the actual TS have aside from it's something you like to write? And if it's something you like to write... what is the problem with just going on your PC and humping to your heart's content?

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@derp What? There is a big difference between being able to play a character and being able to create a plot that is fun for everyone involved.

@silverfox he probably also has to pay a mortgage and all of his own bills

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
@mietze My suggestion? Instead of focusing on how to limit your playerbase, focus on how to empower them. Allow your PCs to run PRPs with no (or extremely few) hoops to jump through. Employ players to assist with jobs that you don't want to do (build jobs, apps, etc) so that you can focus on STing if that's what you want to do.
Yes, a game with a lot of characters can feel overwhelming at times, and maybe you can't touch EVERY SINGLE PERSON EVER at all times, but you should still be able to involve active players if they want to be involved.
If you want to focus on touching every player individually, then limit your playerbase from the beginning with the acknowledgement that you're going to be consistently opening the gates to let fresh blood in and have to repeatedly figure out how to catch the new people up from a game that was closed/blocked off for periods of time. Which tbh sounds freaking exhausting.

@botulism I'm totally going to go for explorer, assuming it is still available in 4 hours when I get home from this dreadful place known as work lol

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Wizz one time, I was having dinner with my friend and her son who was in kindergarten at the time, and he drew a stick figure of me. And then he drew two big ol' boobs on the stick figure. I laughed it off, his mother chatted to him later about why bodies are private and what things are appropriate to draw and when, and now he's like 18 years old and is perfectly normal and I don't think he remembers that one really awkward time that thing happened
It's okay your kid's drawing naked pictures. Just tell him those things aren't allowed in school.

RE: Web portals and scenes and grids oh my!
@Ganymede 100% agree.
I rarely do asynchronous RP and nothing turns me off more from a game than seeing a bunch of scenes (ESPECIALLY plot scenes) that have been going on for days/weeks/sometimes even months. I'm glad Ares has given people the ability to slow-scene and I'll take advantage of it sometimes, but if the scene is going on for longer than like 2 days, I'm out.
-
RE: Where to play?
@Pacha I think one of the more difficult things in Gray Harbor (and games like it) is learning how to catch rp via the Ares system. It's not like Arx where you can hang out on a public square room and people will come. You have to open a public scene and put it out there on the RP channel (preferably with some kinda idea about what the scene will be). People who do that are super successful at getting RP.
But if you ever need an RP hook, we are here to help. You can always page me in game (almightyme) or my coadmin (karmabum) and we can direct you to people who are interested in the same things you are, or give you an idea of a hook to chase
