    • RE: Good TV

      The Netflix Castlevania series was epic, but WAAAAY too short. I almost wouldn't call it an anime, just an american cartoon with anime stylings. But it was good. Good adaptation of the first chunk of Castlevania 3.

      Finished Young Justice. Holy hell, it was awesome.

      Started watching The Magicians. This is the weirdest shit I've ever seen.

      Apropos of looking at your wiki, but holy crap, remove the white block around the TOCs. It's eye-searing against your background with that peach text.

      #toc, .toc, .mw-warning, .toccolours {
      border: 1px solid #aaa;
      background-color: transparent;
      padding: 5px;
      font-size: 95%;
      }

      That should do it.

      ETA: I think I may have some Los Angeles-related materials saved on my computer for assistance, when I was thinking about setting a game in LA following up VTM Bloodlines. If I can find it I'll shoot them your way.

      The floating rooms thing just makes me think of chat-based things like Wanton Wicked, where every room is a 'location' and there's a 'click to go to it by name' interface. What are you planning to do that's different from say, a digichat like WanWic set up in that manner, what are you doing that'll make it closer to a MU* in order to draw in people who would try it?

      UPDATE: I got the job! They verbally offered it to me and I accepted, I get my paperwork to sign tomorrow. Apparently this is the fastest they've ever went from 'application through interview to hiring' that the hiring people can ever recall. I move positions on August 21st.

      When a position opens up at work, and things seem to start falling into place. A position in billing opened up, so I arranged a side by side with their department to see if it would fit. It seems like it'll be awesome, so my manager had me take time during work to get my app and resume in. Two hours later I had an email stating they wanted to interview me at 4p today. Interview went awesome, like... this GIF awesome.

      alt text

      No specific word yet, but it seems quite likely I'll be moving departments as of August.

      The last time I was in Columbus, the GPS got stuck in a circle-loop because of construction and weird streets. I thought Lexington KY was bad with 'one way this way, one way that way' every other street downtown, and weird places with circle medians and weird merging/yielding rules. But I wouldn't wish the traffic in town after or before a UK Basketball game on anyone. Whoo boy.

      All of that is really why I love my group. They ain't that. Hence why this one player going a little beyond normal with the questions is on my nerve.

      We are all friends first, a majority of us met through the local gaming scene, but we're friends first and LARP comes second. Like, we get together to just hang out and watch movies, go out to shows, go Pokemoning, barbeque, dancing. Hell, our group even has had multiple PKs without insanity after the fact other than 'Holy shit, how did you Eddard Stark me, man?' aftertalk.

      All of that stuff is a lot of my problem with a vast majority of the people I know from the Mind's Eye Society. There's a LOT of social awkwardness and problem in that club, and the club would rather care about keeping paying bodies than bouncing shitstains.

      @ThatOneDude
      LOL. No, not really. At least not my group.

      I love my fiance. I wouldn't have been with him for 16 years if I didn't. But god damn if I don't hate a lot of his friends, which makes me happy we have separate circles of friends. One friend in particular, who has to make a nasty or inappropriate joke at/about everything, I fucking hate hanging out with him

      LARPers are, yet again, getting on my nerves. I love my group, but this is the first time EVER, outside of the clusterfuck that is the Mind's Eye Soceity, that I've been bombarded with so many 'if, then' rules questions that are clearly laid out in the book. Read the rules for Dominate. Read the rules for Auspex. Read the rules for Obtenebration. It clearly explains what I just explained to you. No you can't use Auspex to get around Fighting Blind; it doesn't say in Auspex you can, therefor you can't. You can't be 'blind and deaf' through tearing out your eyes and ripping off your ears and expect to function normally.

      RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE. A Thousand Years of Night is out. I have a copy. I am reading it. It's... interesting.

      It's very much a mix of fluff and crunch. The fluff is about playing elders and methuselahs with care given to Requiem 2e's specific builds and world setup. It's definitely NOT a redux of what many of us know from Masquerade and playing elders, really.

      There are more Elder Devotions. There's Elder Blood Sorcery. There's some old antagonists rewritted (Akhud, Pjavica, Julii), new antagonists (Empusae and Lamiae, Inamorata which is a a thing that mimics an old loved one and makes vampires go crazy with their blood, humans that steal vampire immortality through killing elders), a new Covenant, a new Coil, Scales, Merits, Carthian bullshit Law, Oaths, and a section on elder crossover for every splat except Werewolves.

      90s/2000s dance/house/trance music. Stuff like Ian Van Dahl, Mel C, ATC, iiO, tons of other stuff. Like, this is my forever favorite fallback jam: https://youtu.be/JjTV8i_KjXM

      @ZombieGenesis
      I have to ask, is there a reason you're keeping multiple actions other than 'the system supports it'? Aren't multiple actions per turn historically kinda bad/crazy in a MUSH environment?

      The tick system is really nice; I played a long term Scion game and it became very intuitive. I don't think it'd be that difficult to integrate into an automated combat system either.

      @HelloProject

      clean log

      Yeah, but what's the DEFINITION of a clean log? If you mean remove things like channels and OOC spam and such, you'd have to account for every different channel variant and every softcode prefix variant. Penn uses <> around theirs, MUX ues [], MUCK sometimes doesn't use anything like that. I don't do much software so I assume this could be a tick option in settings, but MUSHclient hasn't been in active development in a long time.

      I think the only recent thing that's been in development, really, has been Potato? A new client housing all of these features would be nice, but there's so much division on the clients, just like on servers. Some people only use SiimpleMU*, some only MUSHclient, hell I know some people on the Penn dev site who use TinyFugue to connect.

      Modernization isn't a bad thing. But getting multiple people on board for a 'one client to rule them all' situation is going to be tricky. Especially with many coders not even considering some other codebases like MUCK, MOO, various MUDlibs...

      @HelloProject
      Serious question: what would you do to make the functionality more intuitive? There's very little you can do to, say, map commands to buttons because all of that is a per-MUSH basis (though you CAN do this with personalized softcode, which some games used to have tutorials on doing).

      @Coin
      I finally recalled the one I originally saw was on editgrid. But I did find a copyable example Google Spreadsheets one!

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rus2u7HBCNQe_Mi0zhMXZQJbDY4lQ-02vfgBuE6grQM/edit#gid=2079090240

      ETA: It looks like you can also do what we'd done for editgrid, in that you can upload images and move them around as long as people have edit control of the spreadsheet. You could totally make monster icons in whatever xsquare sizes you need for tiny, etc. I would also advise making the grid spaces larger as it's easier to function with at that point.
