Corporations are started by someone with an idea and investors. As it grows and employees join the company, they gain stock. When the investors and the owner want out, they can sell their shares to the employees and it becomes an employee owned business, like Publix.

Let's talk about this stuff elsewhere, please.

But also, like, this is what corporations were supposed to be back in the day but trust humanity to fuck it all up.

      ❤

While I think a lot of this is not really something most players will really think about it has made me think about what to add to that particular thing. In my mind here's what is provided:

      • Food: You are provided with nutritionally balanced if bland food. It'll keep you alive, and it won't be unpleasant to eat but it'll be like eating protein bars every day. It's boring, but not torture to eat.

      • Shelter: You are provided with enough space, and bland housing. It's up to you to make it anything more than spartan.

      • Clothing: The clothing you are provided with is adequate. You're free to go out and spend money on more exciting clothing. But you're always provided with simple, comfortable, and will-keep-you-safe-from-the-elements clothing. Again, it's bland. It's up to you to spice it up, if you want to.

      • Education: You're educated for free from around five-years-old until the age of 22. After your primary education you are given the choice of military academic, diplomatic academy, civilian trade. You then go into that sector. If you want to change up where you're going-- you can, but at that point it will cost you. Otherwise, your education is free. You chose what you want to do, and the government pays for you to learn how to do it.

@Cobaltasaurus I really want to grab Antoneo, but I'm not sure I have the time I once did to dedicate to MUSHing. What sort of time investment are you expecting?

My best answer for is that you, I'm not planning to even idle people out until they've been offline for 60-days. So y'know, play when you have time and as you have time. Ares seems like a good platform for somewhat slower paced. Since it has the web-based scene system available for people.

    • Characters: What keeps you?

Please note: I don't attribute any value to how long someone does or does not play a character (though I know that many people do). But this is a thought brought up from @JustNobody's thread.

What keeps you on a character for a long time? What keeps you playing it? Why do you stay? For me it seems to be: Start low, and make my way up. I guess, basically, you could say that I like to play out the classical Hero's journey. I like to be involved in plot and feel like I've gotten some spotlight (though I do not need all of it).

Of the four characters that come to mind of "I played them a long time" I can note (plus my two LARP characters):

      • Maia: psionic, science, eventually athletics / mild action.
      • Girah: engineering, even less action but some.
      • Peta: Lots of action.
      • Cytosine: Medical stuff, investigations, less action than Maia but more than Girah.
      • LiteBrite: Angry. So angry. Action, adventure, maybe doesn't count because she got stored away often so I could ST.
      • Amara: Action. Action. Action. Cruac rituals.

So what overall story keeps you coming back? And what details of the story/hooks/types of play keep you coming back?

    • I Need Some Help

So. The aunt that has always been there for me when I needed help died on the third. But my uncle (her husband) has also been holding onto my dad's ashes, and the ashes of one of my other uncles. And we've decided as a family it's time to put everyone to rest. And they're going to be doing that as soon as they can get my aunt cremated ... so either this weekend or the night. And unfortunately I've just paid all my monthly bills and I'm completely tapped out...

Below is a link to a GoFundMe. If you can help out I appreciate it. Unfortunately a roundtrip ticket to Washington right now is just beyond me.

      https://gofund.me/56796609

I don't know what else to say here. Thank you for reading this far. I hate having to ask people for help, and I know I already have in the past... So... again thank you just for reading this far.

There is also a setting under your profile options which allows you to unfollow your own threads by default.

Yes, Derp, there is. But why should someone have to stop following ALL of their own threads if they only want to silence notifications for one?

Ok, I've made significant progress on the hermetic magic portion of the game. I'd like some general feedback from people-- noting that alot of this might change once I'm ready for alpha open. But this is my general idea so far. I do still need to write up the rules for 'experimental magic'.

Now I just keep changing characters on all other existing MUSHes, and I keep leaving in a week or two, and I keep sobbing, why I can't be in the Kingsmouth. I believe, I will have to forget MUSHing in general, unless something similar will ever show up. No offense to staffers of other MUSHes. I am sure, that you are doing a great job. I am just expressing my opinion about this one.

You come across as a huge, whiny, douche.

I've been taking pictures of Bham as I go about my business... And there are some gorgeous places here (I need to get a good shot of Northside downtown with all the tall buildings).

      And then...

    • RE: Characters: What keeps you?

@Cirno I think reading over your things that you like to play character that people might immediately judge in a negative manner. Stuff that people would dismiss as caricatures without bothering to RP with you, or find out why you find those characters fun-- or to see if they could be fun. Frankly, I don't think there is anything wrong (as long as you aren't being deliberately offensive with your concept) with having a "caricature".

Do you enjoy the challenge of making something "grounded" and "fleshed out" of those concepts? Or do you enjoy making people get all up on high-horses? Or both?

I have been guilty, and probably will be in the future, of eye-rolling and judgment of other peoples characters. At this point I'm trying to find that zen place where I don't judge anyone for their fun. I might not want to play a stripper-ninja, but how does someone else playing a stripper-ninja hurt me? It doesn't.

I found two fleas on my dog last night... As such, I haven't slept for two reasons:

      1. I've been obsessively vacuuming the entire house while not at work after washing the dog with flea-shampoo
      2. I feel itchy

      Fuck you, fleas. =|

So you react to fleas the way I react to lice. I feel your pain.

But it's BETTER, guys. It's an IMPROVEMENT. Never mind that we don't like it and didn't ask for it and was poorly implemented. It's NEWER. And that makes it BETTER. At least that's what the fanboy apologists will keep telling us.

      Seriously. Chill the fuck out.

The old forum did have some legitimate problems that needed to be fixed. Such as bad gateways showing up for no reason, lag time (I know that WTFE says it's slower, but it's a lot faster for me), and people suddenly being told "denied!" when trying to log in.

This unfortunately came with a layout change.

I swear to god have you people been living under a fucking rock? Facebook does this like twice a fucking year. Google does the same. Shit changes.

Do you also scream at children who have grown up? Cut their hair? Dyed it?

Or better yet do you yell at people who aren't using rotary phones anymore?

We get it. You don't like the way it looks now. That's sad for you, it fixes problems that needed to be fixed. It isn't "better" because it's "newer", it's better because it's fixed legit problems with the board.
