Can people actually tell at a glance how old anyone is?

I certainly can't. People are generally in categories to me as well:

      • Babies and small children.
      • large children (includes teens)
      • adults
      • elder

I mean I can tell when someone is a /young/ adult... but sometimes they look like large children to me. And I can tell when someone is an older adult... but like ... its a young / older divide before 'elderly'.

I couldn't tell you the exact age of someone. Or even really close. there are some people I card and I'm like: Woah, you're fifty? Or ... I didn't expect you to be my age.

Seriously. Don't tell me things and then get angry when I deny you sales.

No. I'm not going to sell you things on someone else's food card. If its your wife's why isn't she in using it? Or just go through self check out. Jesus.

Also, no. If you tell me you're buying alcohol through your neighbor I'm not going to sell it to you. I don't care if he's 70. If he isn't with you for me to verify that I'm not selling it! I'm not losing my job for you.

Ugh. And yes, please through a tantrum and leave all of your groceries all over my belt, so I have to clean it up before I can help the next person in line. Because I want to make your life difficult by not selling you the beer. If you just kept your mouth shut it would have been fine.

Seriously. Don't tell your cashiers shit like "oh the beer isn't for me".

So me and Muse have hashed out some thoughts on the grid. We're going to go with Washington (sorry @ixokai, but at least it isn't Port Angeles!). We're going with a fictional metropolis set between Mt. Saint Helens and Lewis River in Washington. The eruption in 1980 will have killed the previous angel that was in charge of Washington for Raphael, hence why a weaker angel (her daughter) now holds it (with the help of PCs!).

So far we've split the grid into four areas with a total of about 15 "grid squares". Here's my thoughts:

      Mountains - St Helens
              1) Forest
              2) Mountainy Forest
              3) Mounta itself

      River - Lewis River
              1) Upper River
              2) Lower River

      City - TBD
              1) Inner City (Angel Homestead, Guild HQ)
              2) Downtown/Commercial District (Shopping, Restaurants, Tourist Traps, Police HQ)
              3) Red Light District (vampire hangout, adult stores, etc??)
              4) Suburbs (residential areas, schools, less "upscale" businesses, etc)
              5) Old City (poorer neighborhoods, sketchy businesses)
              6) Recreational area (parks and stuff, maybe an amusement park)
              7) Educational/Medical/Etc/Whatever (community college, hospital, etc)

      Outskirts - rural
              1) Farmland
              2) rural homes
              3) pastures ??

If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts, let me know.

      Just a small update:

I'm in deadweek / finals week for Spring Term. So I'm not working very much on this right now. In a couple of weeks once I'm free from oh god I'm going to fail everything, I'll be working more.

Anyone want to play Cobalt-minder at that point? That is someone to point me at what needs to be done to get the ball rolling.

      @WTFE In theory.

I'd probably still have to card people who aren't "gray and bent over" even if the legal drinking age was 18 rather than 21. That's a company policy not a law.

I don't care that you're over fifty. You don't have gray hair and aren't bent over, neither does your wife. I have to card you both. Throwing a tantrum and saying that you should be able to buy it because you're going to be sixty doesn't work. Also, yes. I do have to card your husband. He can't just leave and then you get the beer. Doesn't matter if its for you. I have to card both of you! BOTH.

@Miss-Demeanor I actually have had zero problems from people with WIC or SNAP acting entitled. The closest was a woman getting the wrong kind of bread and wanting to know why the wic sticker was under it, if it was the wrong kind of bread. I get way more entitled attitudes from people buying alcohol. I had a woman demand to know why I was asking for her ID all of the sudden, since they hadn't asked for her ID here for a long time. I'm just like: I'm a bad judge of age and if you're under 40 I HAVE to put your birthdate into the machine.

I'm really sympathetic to those who come through my line with either SNAP or WIC because I understand there is a huge stigma attached to it, and a certain level of shame. I don't think anyone wants to be on foodstamps or WIC. Its embarrassing. The number of women who come through the line and whisper as quietly as they can "I'm on WIC" when they get to the register just breaks my heart. Like they expect me or the people in line behind them to ridicule them.

My parents were off and on foodstamps when I was a child. An important difference is that back then you got paper foodstamps and everyone in line behind you got to see your business. I remember how embarrassed they were about it.

so, yeah. I tend to feel for WIC/SNAP.

I do not go back to sleep. If my roommate is doing something stupid at 4am and wakes me up, if I've been asleep for one, two, three, four, or five hours, it doesn't matter. I'm awake then. That's it. I can try for an afternoon nap, but besides that? I'm awake.

      This is basically me.

      Unrelated:

A dude came in the store today and was like: "Hi Cobalt. How are you? I'm good. I had a dream about you last night!" ... 😧 And then was like: "What are your plans for the weekend? Oh, do you still live at home since you're a college student?" And I'm slowly getting more and more skeeved out. The person I was checking out just looked at me with wide eyes, and I've got this smile painted on my face, wondering if my eyes are showing my internal screams.

      Also.

Wednesday night. I have a couple coming through the line with WIC. Which is fine and isn't hard to do. However, they grabbed the wrong milk. And there is the old woman behind them. Who while I'm trying to figure out why the milk wasn't covered, starts freaking out. "Oh, I'm trapped here! Oh my god! Why is it taking SO LONG! I'm trapped! Isn't there anyone else in this store I can just pay and go?? Oh my god. I have an appointment I am late for! Oh my god I just want to go!"

And then the couple are just like: "We'll just leave the milk."

And I'm like: "I'm so, so, so, sorry. Have a good night."

And the bitch is like: "So what was the problem?"

And after I ring her up and get her out of the line (she had problems with her chip card, of course). And she yells at me that she only has two hands when I try to give her, her receipt... but whatever she's gone right? Got an appointment she needs to get to? Wrong. She goes, "Can I look around with these?" Pointing at the stuff she bought and I was just like .... as long as you have your receipt.

Off she goes, not off to the appointment, but to go look around the store more.

I move on to ringing another person up, and she walks up, comes into the line the wrong way, and shoves herself down practically ontop of the guys, buying tomatoes. So much for that appointment. Right?

      Well.

She came in today as well. And I had an old woman and her old son with her. And had just finished ringing them up when she gets into the line. And the old woman is having trouble with the chip reader-- So, of course, the complainer from the night before starts complaining again. "Oh my god, every time I come here I get trapped here. Come on, come on! What is taking you so long."

And the guy just starts going "blah blah blah" back to her. And she starts back at him. They finally get rang up and she tells the guy-- "Give me five cents for a bag, ha ha ha!" And then demands he do her chip card for her. Which ... he dutifully does, and then she yanks it away from him and shoves his hands away and says, "Yeah, yeah, I know what to do."

And then demands a plastic bag from me for her rotissiere chicken and I'm like: "We don't have plastic bags here."

Can be humans who hate vampires. Angels who aren't nice to humans or vampires. Could also be people aligned with Lijuan. Or be run of the mill criminal humans.

Chargen is in. I need to update some of it for more Angely things than the Anitaverse stuff since I took it from Wildcard. I also need to install the FAE roller. And get the +sheet command moved over. Since +sheet is currently still @Thenomain 's code. XD Whoops.

But if anyone wants to walk through it and make sure none of the rooms are dead ends, and that things make sense that'd be cool!

Not really, no, @Songtress. The books aren't like say the Anita Blake novels. The worldbuilding is pretty rock solid. Nothing needs to be outline on what Angels are or aren't. Angels are biological humanoid creatures. The older the get the less they need to eat, but if they don't gain energy (through food, sexual contact, etc) they will "fade" away. It's ... never really covered whether or not they poop. But, uh. I don't really care, either way.

We already know that Angels reproduce with other Angels. I don't think that Angels can reproduce with humans (though if they can I think that's where Hunterborn come from. OR Hunterborn come from very young vampires who can still reproduce). Basically it is said that Angels very, very, very rarely engage in sexual activity with humans. I have a feeling that Archangel's Heart, coming out late this year will tell us a little about where Hunterborn come from.

      a) Humans are weak.
      b) Angels are often arrogant, and other angels are prettier.
      c) Humans are fragile compared to humans.
      d) Angels live a long time, humans do not.

Angels will sometimes have relations with vampires (and often do if they don't have angelic lovers), because vampirism makes you pretty(ier). However, vampires after a certain age (I don't remember what age specifically) can no longer reproduce. I need to reread Archangel's Blade, it comes up at the end of the book.

We do know, however, that Angels have a far, far, far lower birthrate than humans. They are generally less fertile than human beings are. Its something like a single Angel could be born in a century.

This is a theme note too:

Since Angel births are so rare children are protected immensely. It is one of two ancient laws that is considered absolute: Children are not to be hurt (some Angels feel that only Angelic children count, but almost all "not evil" Angels will never harm a child. Harming a human child is considered pushing into irredeemable territory. Harming an Angelic child gets you killed. Period.) The other ancient law is that sleeping angels (they go into a magical coma, kinda like vampiric torpor from VtR/VtM) are not to be harmed. Especially ancients.

@Miss-Demeanor Ngh. Oh, so. I don't know if this is the policy for ALL walmarts, or just the ones here in Oregon. But we have to ID everyone person in the group when someone comes in for alcohol or cigarettes. The only exception is when someone says "that's my kid", or if someone is obviously a minor with their parent. We also cannot sell alcohol or cigarettes to a person if it seems like it is going to a third party, and we can't ID that party.

So a chick came through the line the otherday. She's got a bunch of stuff and a 24-pack of beer in her cart. I scan it and ID and start doing everything else. And then she goes: "Oh, yeah, I only came in for the beer. I'm getting it for my neighbor." And I'm like, erh. Meanwhile, the woman is complimenting me on my hair, how beautiful it is, etc. And being just as sweet as pie. I call my CSM over on instinct. Tell her the woman said she was getting the beer for someone else. CSM says, nope refuse it. I ask my CSM to do it.

"Well, can't I leave the store and come back and get it?" No. You already told us it was for your neighbor. "Okay, I'm just trying to find a way around it, I can't go to another store." There is no way around it, because you told it was for a third party we can't sell it to you.

Woman flips out. "I can't believe this! This is ridiculous. Its getting harder and harder to shop here. I'm done with this store. No you can't help me put anything into my cart. I don't want your help, I'm leaving this store."

@Miss-Demeanor the other night a guy with a full cart walks up at 9:59, and my shifts ends at 10. there is another register open behind me. Guy goes, "You look like you need something to do." And i'm like nope i'm off in a minute and he goes, "You are not going to make it" laughes at me and starts piling shit onto my lane.

      I was so mad.

@Packrat said in Angel's Legacy: Seeking Help!:

That said in the first 3 books we see an Archangel incapacitated by somebody throwing knives into their eyes, I do not see anything which suggests a dozen sufficiently willing to risk death soldiers with high powered firearms and hatchets (for post incapacitation dismembering) could not bring down an Archangel in the right circumstances. Did Alt-Napoleon drive angels out of western Europe or something? Who knows.

Note, that I believe Michaela is considered the weakest of the Archangel's as well. I don't think that say Raphael or Neha would be incapacitated so easily. Michaela is also not a warrior. She's a manipulator and a betrayer. I still hesitate to set anything in outside of the US because I don't know those cultures or that slang. If we put it somewhere outside of the US, I'd want a native of that area to put in some work on the wiki/in-game-news files, with info on the local culture, and slang, and stuff.
