    • RE: How is there not a Gloomhaven thread here?

@ominous Ok? That's you. My partner has terrible ADHD and, honestly, probably dyslexia. I tried to get him into playing D&D but he finds that there is too much reading for his comfort involved. He was, however, very enthusiastic about Gloomhaven. He loves it.

There's still a lot of reading involved but I do most of the thematic/event reading. And he just keeps track of what his cards do. He's even more enthusiastic about the video game.

Which has, mysteriously, fixed itself. No more lag issues after the very first attempts at playing.

      Like how?

Because D&D exists and an expensive ass board game that does D&D worse than D&D is a waste of money.

I mean ... Considering how many d&d products are there... Spending $100-160 once a d&d-esque boardgame that has way less in the way of rules you have to remember is probably not a waste.

      this is my laptop

I have turned the graphics down to nothing and the game still runs painfully slow. A brief Google search suggests it's an issue with with nVidia graphics cards. I haven't had time to go in and limit my FPS via the graphics card which is a suggested fix. But when I find a work around I'll post an update.

Is it good? I've heard of Gloomhaven but never played it.

      Is the PC version multiplayer?

Yeah, actually, online multiplayer came out before the story mode. But the full version of the game is going to be released today at 3pm London time... So about 5hrs as of my posting this thread.

The price tag, while worth it, is a little be of a barrier to entry for Gloomhaven. I have the physical game and kind of regret getting it because we don't play it anymore cause our in person group fell apart. And it's kinda hard to restart.

But I love it. And can't wait for the computer game full release tomorrow.

I shopped/delivered for instacart in the early days and after their tip theft and hiding tips so they could use that factored in to their offer of pay per job (when the customer has 3 days to zero out the tip!) I just do not trust gig companies to pay their delivery drivers or shoppers and prefer that they get the $$ directly from me so I know the company isn't stealing.

I have worked for Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, Uber Eats, and GrubHub. Of all of them, Papa John's was the absolutely most shady. I would work 50+hrs a week and somehow still only have $150/paycheck.

I'm not entirely sure how they did it because the way the paystubs were presented they were incredibly hard to read. The Domino's I work at now actually pays the best in terms of hourly. I get full minimum wage on and off the road, everywhere else it was $4.25/hr while on the road.

Of course GrubHub and UberEats you don't really get an hourly wage, you just get a bonus if your runs end up meaning you would make less than minimum wage, iirc.

I tend to get infuriatingly low tips at times. 10% may seem like a good tip for a delivery driver because they're "not waiting on me like a waiter would", but that doesn't take into account that I am using my own car and have to pay for my gas, oil changes, tires, brakes, etc.

Yes, I get mileage reimbursement but it's to cover gas and it does not cover the rest of the wear and tear on my car.

My time is as finite as yours. Just because I am delivering food and not working in a hospital doesn't mean you can waste my time. Either let me leave the food at the drop off table or expediently come down to get it.

Also fuck you for not tipping. If you don't want to tip then lobby to make it so we get paid better and don't have to rely on tips to make money.

I'm reskinning the names of Hermetic Magic and Wild Magic to 'Lesser Works' and 'Wishes' and changing some of the thematic ideas behind them. To re-eninforce the idea that this isn't Mage: the Awakening but Second Sight. 😛

@derp Right, exactly, I feel like I missed some very obvious important step somewhere that everyone else can see and understand but I am just blind to it.

I might try again now that I am being treated for ADD (kinda), but like... Waves hands in space. It feels like there's some missing link that my brain just cannot click onto.

    • RE: What's So Hard About Ruby?

@groth Yeah, I did that. I even went through the tutorials on ares central, both the one for coding the notes stuff and links to getting started with Ruby. Then when it came time to do my own project I could not, for the life of me, wrap my head around how to do it.

I wanted to code a widget that would flip the area a room was at from "simulated weather" to "space", to simulate turning a viewport off and on. And I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to get/set the area.

Other people have thrived with Ares and Ruby, so obviously the language isn't the problem. The problem is me.

Possibly because I learnt softcode before real code.

Ah, and they just gotcha'd us with 70 dollars a month of hidden fees just to park our cars. This is taking a considerable amount of wind out of my sails.

I am so sorry. That is utter BS. I wish the US had better laws to protect renters.

Maybe I just don't have the brain for modern coding languages then. Because I found it frustrating to the point of despair.

I love Birmingham's street art. We have several taggers: Zuka, Daze, and Toka. These are some of my favorite pieces:

I need to get a better image of that Toka tag. It's damned nice.
