Catching up on Black Lightning. One episode left of the second season.

It's pretty good. I mean, a little overly sappy at times in that same way all superhero CW shows are, but I can deal with it just to see some actual fucking diversity in the cast that isn't by the numbers tokenism.

Create a funny nickname for her.

      Insist on its use.

Eventually, someone will use her real name around you.

      Or not.

      Whatever.

You don't need it anymore. You have baptized your new friend.

Also, Monte Cook Games is pretty harsh when it comes to allowing their systems and games to be MUs. You'd have to be pretty sneaky about it.

@Auspice I joined Fallcoast for maybe a week in 2016 at the request of the friend. (Didn't quite stick around, but ended up coming back 3 years later to give it another shot anyways.) And - despite what I've seen in the Hog Pit - most people here seem decent enough! I actually forgot I had an account here until I tried to sign up again last night and my email was taken.

@Coin Hey! I'm an adult. I chop my own vegetables and pay someone else to do my taxes.

I get what you're saying, though! This medium has been around for a long time and I guess most folks in it have had a long time to make themselves a part of it. Just that feeling of being the new kid trying to wiggle their way in.

Man, at least you were born in the 90s. I've been doing this for almost fifteen years. I remember when I felt exactly like you do.

Wtf. Fifteen years? Jesus fucking Christ.

The one thing that's made me feel any sort of directly unwelcome or pushed away is mostly just the overly-thirsty TS hounds on non-sex MUSH's that only seem interested in doing exactly that. The rest of it, I suppose, is just being self-conscious and anxious in a new space!

The faster you can spot them the better so you can just dodge early. Unfortunately there's no actual solution, especially since most staff refuse to actually crack down on that sort of behavior (if they aren't already the perpetrators).

@Joyeuse Besides what the rest have said, most of which is pretty spot on, mentions of things like "cliques" or even "The Clique" and other community-specific (in the latter's case) jargon is less an issue of us being older than you (jfc you're a baby, no I'm kidding, but yikes, I am old now, when did I get old) and more just an issue of us having been in the community more time. I mean sure, that's a byproduct made possible by our advanced age (we're old, so old) but I don't think there's a difference in mentality based on age.

That said, did you eat your vegetables? Vegetables are important. (I'm kidding. I'm sorry.)

So to clarify, you hate him because of his lack of 'humanity' so you shall express your hatred by ... showing a lack of humanity at his death. Logical.

While I am not a fan of Koch and look forward to a future without him personally affecting politics, BobG has a pretty solid Vulcan/Buddhist point, here. If you dance on the grave of "bad men", you are still a grave-dancer.

Again, not a fan of Koch at all, but philosophically who is worse? The man with the money or the corrupted politicians who got quid-pro-quo with him?

It doesn't matter who's worse; "not being as bad as" does not make you less deserving of your grave being danced on.

@BobGoblin said in Dead Celebrities 2019:

What harm was caused by this man in his life? Funding politicians that support his political viewpoint is now causing harm?

If that political viewpoint and those polticians are harmful--yes, absolutely, it is.

@Wretched said in Dead Celebrities 2019:

@Ghost I'd happily dance on the graves of many people in history. I am okay with the title of Grave dancer.

      Same.

I would want to know more about these new five Watchtowers. What their Realms are, what their Arcanum are, etc.

If it's the same as the presented Djinn in the Sixth Watchtower, it'll be Forces/Spirit with an inferior of Prime.

Except there isn't a single Sixth Watchtower; there's 5, including that one.

      So, what's the other four?

So it doesn't matter if public opinion thinks "Man, disney are being jerks", because Disney still controls every other aspect of this franchise everybody loves, so the public will still prefer Sony capitulate, even if Disney is being a dick.

It matters to people who are more than barely sentient, like me.

But, yes, I suppose I should never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups.

You used "public opinion" as a noun with agency first; and historically public opinion is easily swayed towards whatever is immediately gratifying. >.>

All of this isn't bluffing or base stupidity - it's just negotiating. Disney is using public opinion as leverage, making fans' outrage a factor in Sony's decision making.

That's all fine and dandy until public opinion realizes that Disney is the company that's actually playing hardball here.

The problem with that is that public opinion will also still be keenly aware that while disney playing hardball is a dickish move, they also control the entire MCU aside from Spidey (and Hulk, sort of, but Universal is like... whatever).

So it doesn't matter if public opinion thinks "Man, disney are being jerks", because Disney still controls every other aspect of this franchise everybody loves, so the public will still prefer Sony capitulate, even if Disney is being a dick. Because the public's interest lies in seeing more Spidey in the MCU, not which unfanthomably huge corporation gets the money.

If Sony believes enough people will be angry enough to not watch Spider-man if the character is detached from Marvel and they expect the diminished sales to be more than the percentage of shared revenue Disney is asking for, then they'll cut a deal. Else they won't.

IIRC, Disney was also offering to front half the cost of the movies in return for half the revenue, which they weren't doing before, so it's not like Sony would be spending the same money and losing 45% more of the revenue than before; the costs would be ameliorated pretty heavily.

At some point, a lessor just eyes the lessee and wonders if they just want to buy the property. You can exact a better price that way, since the lessee is entrenched and subject to economic inertia.

Come on, people, Asian people are wise; that's why they let Disney essentially borrow their IP for a bit. Meanwhile, white people are dumb; that's why Fox gave up their IP without letting Disney attach their cash-cow to it first.

      live long enough

Absolutely. I would never assume that Disney buying anything would be cheap, or even not in Sony's favor in the end; just that eventually, Spider-Man will swing back home to Marvel Studios. Disney has put too much effort, time, and money for them not to secure such a major part of what has become the largest film franchise in history. In ten years it surpassed thirty years worth of Star Wars. which they also own.

Or maybe I'm wrong and they'll chuck it like they did Hulk, striking a nominal deal to have Spidey in a few future MCU films that aren't solo endeavors. I don't know.

      Fair enough.

Of course, Disney just spend 71 billion buying 21st Century Fox; that's a 71 billion dollar investment that starts to pay off pretty soon, not to mention 71 billion dollars they didn't spend on producing content.

I'm pretty sure it's down to how stubborn Sony wants to be and how much revenue Spider-Man actually brings to the table without Disney helping along.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but while Sony Pictures is only part of Sony, it's like, the largest part, when it comes to net worth, by far.

Really, it'll depend on whether or not the ginormous egos up at the top of both mountains can come to an agreement or not.

Eventually, Disney will get tired of this shit and just buy Sony, like they did 21st Century Fox. This strikes me as two very large companies calling each other's bluff; except one company is only large in comparison to any company except the one they're facing. Sony wants to believe it has weight and can move at the same financial level as Disney, but it can't.

Both are fun. If you liked Banshee (talkin' to you, @Arkandel), Warrior is by the same channel and production team.

My head canon for The Boys is Lucas walked into town and he's impersonating the leader of a superhero team.

      Reverse it.

Homelander reality-skipped and is now playing up like he's got no powers and is basically just having a laugh in Banshee. (Or being remorseful?)

i am diggin' Wu Assassins on Netflix.

The SFX budget is noticeably on the low side, but the fight choreography is on point.

It's dialogue is at least better than Warrior's, which I am also enjoying, but yikes (though it may be on purpose, a call-back to the dialogue styles of the Bruce Lee era martial arts flicks).
