It's very Mass Effect-ish, yes, but also very Valerian and Fifth Element with touches of Farscape, among a dozen other sc-fi settings I've read/watched over the years.

I think the "haunted AI runs the place" is in part something that will make it stand out so try to focus on that (but not to the exclusion of anything else).

There is a sort of spectrum of in the shows about the Teen Titans that goes from "absolutely fucking bonkers and ridiculous" all the way to "appropriately realistic, dark and brooding", and that spectrum goes like this:

Teen Titans! Go - Teen Titans - Young Justice - Titans.

[Young Justice because it's essentially originally a rework of the 90s/early 00s Young Justice / Teen Titans (comic book) teams (but with more secrecy and less officialism, which moves neatly into the absolutely unofficial and definitely not-public Titans).]

I watched Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald last night. It was very, very good! Jude Law is the best Dumbledore so far, period, and given how good Johnny Depp was too I can't wait to see these guys share a screen.

But damn it didn't try to coddle the audience at all. It was fan service all the way, with regular infobombs and revelations for Potterheads that I struggled with as my own interest about that universe isn't too deep. I can't imagine what it's like to watch it as a muggle.

Also the effects were a little overdone, IMHO. Sometimes I couldn't tell wtf was happening and who was doing what in the middle of all the magical explosions and shit.

I didn't really feel like Depp was any good. Honestly, it just felt like he stood there and stared into the empty nothing for any take that he didn't have lines in, and then just delivered his lines like... well... like Johnny Depp. I mean, sure, he wasn't Jack Sparrow-ing the role, but it was still destructively underwhelming. But then, that's kind of JD's signature. I did like Jude Law, though.

Just a quick update... In some of the previous drafts the game had included some references to the native species of Chontio in terms that were fairly racisty, and the ties between the Ushawbay and Native Americans was pretty direct. That's been changed.

The native species of Chontio, the Ushawbay, are still known to attack settlers. There's still conflict, and still questions of how to handle this violence, but the terms that are used are less weird.

Lemme guess: "savages".

No. You want to stir the pot. If someone has an issue with me or the way I do things, I expect them to come to me about it if this is truly important to them and it wasn't just a moment of venting out of frustration. If it is serious enough to need a resolution, they need to come to me themselves. If it's not, then I don't need to hear about every time I irritate someone and they needed a moment to bitch.

I knew someone who would constantly bitch about someone else to me. It was all the time. Every day. Eventually I told them if they didn't stop and go hash it out with the other person I was just going to stop talking to them.
