I don't have a problem with paying for these services. If I had the means to take in more greyhounds I would, but I don't, and so as a result, I'm happy to give that money I spend to to take care of him and see it used to help other greyhounds. The point of my post was not abut complaining about spending the money or where it goes, but about the way that I've been treated by people who are part of the local greyhound rescue community.

As a side note, I emailed the lady who I had the nails exchange with, and she actually apologized sincerely.

A lot of my co-workers are lovely, friendly people with interesting lives and I'm perfectly happy to have them friended on Facebook. There are people I don't friend, mainly because I'm petty sure that proof of their dumbassery is not going to improve my impression o f them.

Discovering that at least one of my co-workers is a pro-Trump, anti-immigration, men's rights activist means I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to look at him, much less talk to him.

I can testify that @mietze's Jell-O shot cakes will knock you on the ground, and you won't get up again for hours.

      It happened to me!

What I find really interesting that Seiche (Sieche?), made that list. She was nominated for a best series. I know that she's looked at by a lot of really veteran MUer with some cringing and hatred. But I think it's pretty awesome to see someone who was once an active MU*er getting nominated for a Hugo.

And, hell. Her writing career is probably keeping her out of the MU*ing hobby?

She's one of those people who I absolutely cannot roleplay with online, but get along with pretty well with in RL. She does spin an excellent yarn, is noted for her inclusivity in terms of sexuality, body shape, ethnicity, etc in her writing. She's won a handful of awards that were well deserved, and having read and enjoyed her work, I don't have a problem saying as much.

@Chet There was once a Pacific Rim game, but it fell off because there were players who wanted to be Jaeger pilots while refusing to watch the source material. And playing drift compatability can be challenging.

How is being polite and respectful a dangerous mentality to adhere to?

That's not what I was objecting to. What you described was a situation where staff adopted a dangerous mentality: "I will devote my free time only to those players who share my vision of this game."

It makes sense superficially, but it's dangerous in practice. If those players manipulate the vision of the game, then staff are no longer serving that vision; rather, staff are serving those players. This is how the Ham Clique worked; this is how Spider gets into positions of power.

I realize this is going to possibly open me up to all sorts of scorn, but I have to say I'm confused. When you log into a game, isn't it with the expectation of playing within the theme, ie the vision that the staffers have put into play? Which again may return to my question of whether or not dispensing plot to non-proactive people makes any sense, or why it's bad to respond to those who choose to be proactive.

Personally I log in to play "The 100" and I think the only time I would try to sway the theme of the game is if I felt the game was going wildly off thematic track. And if it was, there's certainly ways to approach staff civilly about it. I'm not trying to build a cult of personality, which to me smacks more of what the aforementioned clique and the likes of Spider are prone to do.

My character is proactive. I built her to be so, and I've been playing her as politically ambitious and she's made her way into a position of having some credit with her fellow Delinquents. I don't know if this makes me part of the antagonistic or "favored" folk, but I'm happy to RP with pretty much anyone, and I try to weather check when I feel like I may have come across unintentionally antagonistic OOCly (more often than not people assure me I haven't, but since it's happened to me so often in my mushing history, I'm going to keep checking.)

I liked it alright. I found that the parts I liked I REALLY, REALLY liked, but there were sections that were kind of ho hum for me. I also love the author's random ability to drop little pop culture bombs here and there through the story.

@Thenomain said in What even is 'Metaplot'?:

Korra I don't think has a global metaplot. It has some smaller ones, such as Asami Sato's struggling with her father and inheriting a large corporation, but IMO that's the metaplot of the "and then this happens, solve it" variety. A character arc.

I think that would be the resolution of the alignment of the spirit and physical worlds, as well as the power dynamic of benders vs. non-benders.

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

So I just want to note, for anyone who was curious about the game, or had to take a break from the game for RL and was worried they wouldn't be able to catch up with the plot line, we are now official in a "season break" for about two months. It's a really good time for new characters to come on board. There will still be events, but at a much slower pace, allowing for more time to absorb the setting and/or get reaquainted. Familiarity with the tv series "The 100" is not required, but at least watching the first few episodes is encouraged.

The first two seasons have now played out, resulting in the combined forces of the Coalition and the survivors of the Ark's Alpha Station capturing the Mountain. Cage Wallace was captured and executed by the Death of a Thousand Cuts and now Mount Weather's resources are ripe for the taking.

There are of course, still challenges. Indra kom Trikru awaits proof that the Ark is not responsible for a dropship landing wiping out an entire village of seven hundred people - and if no one is handed over for this crime, then the leadership of the Ark may have to stand for the punishment. The Commander of the Coalition, Lexa, no doubt has an agenda involving how the Ark's former inhabitants, now called Skaikru, will fit in. After the destruction of their village, the residents of Coesbur are rebuilding in a new location - directly across the lake from Camp Jaha. And the violent Ice Nation is restless again, and may yet cause more trouble for everyone.

      Characters available for play:

Arkers/Skaikru - Delinquents (members of the 100) are no longer available for play, however any concept from age 18 up is feasible. Engineers, mechanics, med-techs, doctors, nurses, food techs, agro-techs, hydro-techs, recycling specialists, members of the militia and/or guard, the list of possibilities is pretty considerable. Your character would be considered as "always having been there", as often happens in tv shows when new characters are introduced.

Grounders/Trikru - Any concept from age 18 up is feasible. Warriors, makers (crafters), farmers, traders, healers, scouts, animal handlers, Seconds (apprentices) just about any kind of "natural" society position is viable. Keep in mind that most RP will settle around the village of New Coesbur, so while your character can be from any of the current in-game Grounder locations (Coesbur, Tondc, or Polis).

Mountain Men/Maunon - The civilians and any soldiers of the Mountain who surrendered during the invasion have been left alone, but are still suffering from the radiation sickness that results when they come into contact with the outside world. Capturing Grounders and Arkers to harvest their marrow is no longer an option, and many didn't feel this was an acceptable solution in the first place. Now the Ark is determined to help find a cure for these people so they can live as they should, under the sky. IMPORTANT NOTE: rp locations are limited for these characters.

While the Ice Nation/Azgeda are not available for play at this time, it is possible that they will come open in the next few months. Additionally, staff now allows two alts in each faction - one combatant, one non-combatant.

Head over and take a look. Staff and players are friendly folks who are happy to help you.

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

@Jaded I enjoyed individual performances, mainly Ian McShane and Daniel Dae Kim and the girl playing Alice.

But the film was pretty much doomed as soon as they cast Jovovich. Not necessarily because Jovovich is a bad actress (which she kinda is) but because with rare exception, her movies are always high level ridiculous.

    • RE: Interest check - Teen Wolf/Mercy Thompson MU

One of the things I appreciate about Teen Wolf as a setting is that sexual orientation is not portrayed as problematic. Having previously played on a game in the Teen Wolf setting where this was not the case (which tbh kind of ruined it for me) I'd like to know your approach on that issue, as it relates to my interest.

@mietze I have a hard time reconciling MZB's works with her horrible RL past these days. There are some artists I can separate from their work, but she's not one of them.

I know what you mean, though. Holy crap that would be some significant histrionics.

    • RE: Historical MU*s

So at this point I'm really hungry for a historical nWoD style game. I'd love a Victorian era Changeling or Mage game, and after having heard about someone who may have set up a Dark Ages Werewolf Vikings game, I'd love deets on that too. I'm pretty much open to almost any kind of historical setting with either Changeling, Mage, or Werewolf involved.

Is there anything like the above, either actively running or in the works?

    • RE: RL things I love

So one of the things that always bugged me about myself was that I didn't really feel I had sense of "style" in terms of how it related to who I was. What I put on my body was basically whatever was necessary not to get arrested and not feel exposed and conform to whatever standard my workplace required when necessary.

In the past few months, I've actually started to care. I've tried out stylist services like Dia and Stitchfix, and having recently discovered ThredUp, I am totally obsessed with it. (4 pieces of tags on/like new clothes for under $100? YES PLEASE).

I've also discovered Disneybounding, and I'm obsessed. I don't live near a park anymore, but a lot of people do it in their every day lives and I think it's amazing.

At any rate, I may have a grown up closet soon! In as much as I am a grown up.

Despite my nigh-infamous bad luck with Buffy games, I am so there for this. And basically, what @Cobaltasaurus said: take what works from the canon and don't worry about what doesn't.

I am pretty much fucking obsessed with the canon though, and I'm pretty comfy with the Eden system if that's what you're using.
