So at this point I'm really hungry for a historical nWoD style game. I'd love a Victorian era Changeling or Mage game, and after having heard about someone who may have set up a Dark Ages Werewolf Vikings game, I'd love deets on that too. I'm pretty much open to almost any kind of historical setting with either Changeling, Mage, or Werewolf involved.

Is there anything like the above, either actively running or in the works?

      Dear dick neighbors,

It is not July 4th. It is not New Year's Eve.

Why the fuck are you setting off fireworks and turning my dog into a shaking, drooling, whining emotional wreck?

If I had been there (I got texted by my roommate, fortunately I'd already given my dog a chill pill) I would have called the cops.

      Fuck you,
      Me.

I was brought up to believe that the Christmas season was not officially starting until Santa's sled appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

Only in relation to my personal experience speaking about my fella specifically:

While there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog, greyhounds are in the low spectrum for dander. I would have been happy to move if she had asked me to. This allegedly highly allergic woman came within less than three feet of my dog of her own volition.

Any time my dog is outside of my home, he is leashed. He NEVER goes off leash unless we are in a contained space, I never take him to public dog parks (I'll get to why in a moment) and when I take him to the breed only park we go to, he wears a muzzle if there are also other dogs there - who are also wearing muzzles.

My dog has a high prey drive. If it is small and furry and fast - or even just small and fast, he will at minimum stop and stare at it, at worst he will attack it - and he has never tried to pull off the leash to do so. I keep him away from cats, tiny dogs, and small critters, and control the environment strictly with regard to small children or babies. Someday a rabbit will come into our yard and he'll probably leave me a present by the back door - that's fine, but also where I draw the line.

Pretty much anytime I take him out anyplace, someone remarks on how well behaved and quiet he is, including in the store. His breed does not often bark, and are loathe to relieve themselves in dwelling areas (which they tend to identify as "kennels". He also gets a bath every three months and is brushed once a week, sometimes twice.

I usually don't give a shit about the Olympics other than having the usual glamour sports on in the evenings when there's nothing else to watch. However, I've become fascinated with the saga of Or Sasson, Israel's >100 kg judoka.

His first bout was scheduled to be with the Egyptian judoka in his class, Islam El Shehaby. Islam was receiving pressure to withdraw from the match, which is a typical action taken by Middle Eastern/extreme Islamic nations when faced by Israeli athletes. Some Egyptian officials even made noises about revoking his Egyptian citizenship, especially if he lost to Sasson, but El Shehaby decided to fight anyway.

Sasson beat him pretty soundly, and El Shehaby refused to shake his hand or acknowledge him, prompting the crowd to start booing. Not only was it disrespectful to Sasson, but considered disrespectful and dishonorable in terms of the sport's etiquette - you always bow or shake hands after the match is over.

The "love" part of this? Sasson has advanced to the semi-finals. I'm oddly excited by this.

I just binged Crazy Ex-Girlfriend over the past week -- for the second time. (The first was a month or two ago.) It's is frustratingly charming.

I tried Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and could not get into it at all. Jane the Vigin, on the other hand, is shockingly awesome.

My local grocery store's unofficial rule is that if you have your dog with you, as long as it doesn't behave badly/pee/whatever and no one complains, you can go about your business and all is well. This is actually right out of a manager's mouth. You get one shot, effectively, and if your dog messes up, they're not welcome back.

The employees of the store love my dog. Several of them know him by name and are delighted to see him. Even the meat counter guys - who I don't really know at all - great him by name when they see him. I often get compliments and curious questions as he's of a very striking breed. By and large, it's a good experience, and it helps me develop my ability to handle social situations with strangers, aside from the fact that the dog enjoys going in there. He's also a comfort animal, even though technically ESOs are not the same as service animals.

Today, out of nowhere, a woman I have never seen before walks up to me in the middle of the store while he's with me on leash and goes into this lengthy explanation about how she's extremely allergic to dogs and so the only places she can go are restaurants and stores, and could I please stop bringing my dog to the store?

Now on one hand I get that if you're allergic you don't want to be near the cause of your allergies. But this woman came up to me and spent about 90 seconds at length in close proximity to my dog in order to ask me to not bring my dog to the store. I have never seen her before now, she's not a store employee (in which case I might consider it since regular exposure would be rude) but in this singular instance of never having met this woman and likely not meeting her again, I'm expected to accomodate her? And she expects me to explain to her the fact that he's an ESO or the state of my mental health like it's any of her business?

Frankly, if she was so allergic to my dog, she could have just walked away. I wouldn't even have minded "Miss, could you please go further down the aisle? I'm allergic and need to go that way."

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

So I just want to note, for anyone who was curious about the game, or had to take a break from the game for RL and was worried they wouldn't be able to catch up with the plot line, we are now official in a "season break" for about two months. It's a really good time for new characters to come on board. There will still be events, but at a much slower pace, allowing for more time to absorb the setting and/or get reaquainted. Familiarity with the tv series "The 100" is not required, but at least watching the first few episodes is encouraged.

The first two seasons have now played out, resulting in the combined forces of the Coalition and the survivors of the Ark's Alpha Station capturing the Mountain. Cage Wallace was captured and executed by the Death of a Thousand Cuts and now Mount Weather's resources are ripe for the taking.

There are of course, still challenges. Indra kom Trikru awaits proof that the Ark is not responsible for a dropship landing wiping out an entire village of seven hundred people - and if no one is handed over for this crime, then the leadership of the Ark may have to stand for the punishment. The Commander of the Coalition, Lexa, no doubt has an agenda involving how the Ark's former inhabitants, now called Skaikru, will fit in. After the destruction of their village, the residents of Coesbur are rebuilding in a new location - directly across the lake from Camp Jaha. And the violent Ice Nation is restless again, and may yet cause more trouble for everyone.

      Characters available for play:

Arkers/Skaikru - Delinquents (members of the 100) are no longer available for play, however any concept from age 18 up is feasible. Engineers, mechanics, med-techs, doctors, nurses, food techs, agro-techs, hydro-techs, recycling specialists, members of the militia and/or guard, the list of possibilities is pretty considerable. Your character would be considered as "always having been there", as often happens in tv shows when new characters are introduced.

Grounders/Trikru - Any concept from age 18 up is feasible. Warriors, makers (crafters), farmers, traders, healers, scouts, animal handlers, Seconds (apprentices) just about any kind of "natural" society position is viable. Keep in mind that most RP will settle around the village of New Coesbur, so while your character can be from any of the current in-game Grounder locations (Coesbur, Tondc, or Polis).

Mountain Men/Maunon - The civilians and any soldiers of the Mountain who surrendered during the invasion have been left alone, but are still suffering from the radiation sickness that results when they come into contact with the outside world. Capturing Grounders and Arkers to harvest their marrow is no longer an option, and many didn't feel this was an acceptable solution in the first place. Now the Ark is determined to help find a cure for these people so they can live as they should, under the sky. IMPORTANT NOTE: rp locations are limited for these characters.

While the Ice Nation/Azgeda are not available for play at this time, it is possible that they will come open in the next few months. Additionally, staff now allows two alts in each faction - one combatant, one non-combatant.

Head over and take a look. Staff and players are friendly folks who are happy to help you.

So having diabetes sucks (boo), but I discovered this fantastic app called MySugr. You use it to record your blood sugar levels, but it's also a game at the same time - there's this little dude called the Sugar Monster and you get points for each time you register your blood sugar, in addition to info like taking your meds, activities you did that day: drove, went to work, went shopping, exercised, how you're feeling, what you ate, etc. Each action gives you X amount of points, and if you make 50 points in a day, you have successfully "chained" the monster. Each time you input your blood sugar, the monster makes a little noise like a crunch crunch sound or a tongue phhbbt or whatever, and it's really cute. There are also challenges you can opt into.

So yes, the health problem sucks, but I've found something that actively encourages me to keep it under control in a way that's really motivating me. Oh, and you can customize your monster's name. Any suggestions?

While these folks exist and I sadly know a few, I do think that if liking any entertainment property counts as a huge part of your life, priorities really need to be reassessed.

I don't know, man. I've come to a point in life where I kind of feel like judging someone else's quality of life based on my personal sense of what's acceptable and normal just falls into the realm of "none of my beeswax" save when it comes to issues of harm and consent and the like. Like...if these people are happy dressing in their Starfleet uniform to work every day or can only function if they tell themselves that "someday my Doctor will come", who am I to tell them that they can't be happy in their self-created paradigm as long as they're not harming themselves or anyone else?

@Arkandel: Doubly hilarious or perhaps sad, Olicity just won the Ship of the Year at the MTV Fandom Awards.

There's this one dude on a game I play on who constantly rants about hating Olicity and what he feels is the over-focus on Felicity in general to the point where he calls it "Felicity and Friends".

He's perfectly entitled to his tastes, but I do wish he'd stop shitting on everything other people happen to enjoy. Is the entitlement mine in this case, or is it his? Or both? Who knows. I file it under "It's okay to not like things but don't be a dick about it."

Not really. Supernatural nods and winks with the fans, even using names of a message board that was up at the time when discussing the show. Teen Wolf fans on the other hand are like "No, they're gay and in love, and this is the way it is and anyone who doesn't see it, including the people writing the show are idiots." to the point that the actors talk about it, but aren't very comfortable about it.

This also happend and happened in Supernatural fandom. There are whole swaths of the dfandom that complain because the writers "shiptease" them. Carver and Edlund have been called idiots and worse.

One of the reasons I don't play my favorite canon Teen Wolf character on any mu*s that allow features is because just about every Stiles I've encountered wants to get Sterek'd.

      @BetterNow said in Fanbase entitlement:

I'm guessing the Teen Wolf thing is something akin to Wincest and Destial stuff in Supernatural? I kind of adore that the writers of the show purposely poke the bear there over and over, and even address it within the story. Like when Sam and Dean found Wincest stuff on the computer based on the book series by Chuck, and Crowley continually calls Cas Dean's boyfriend. Wonderful subversion of rabid fandom.

I wish it were that clever. The Sterek thing on the show's side was queerbaiting, as was the is he/isn't he question of Stiles' sexuality. For the former, the show teased it to keep those shippers watching but never ever promoted anything overt. As to the latter, the show runner is mum on the subject, the actor is convinced he's straight, the fans for whom it is important insist that it isn't up to the actor regardless.

I am less concerned with Stiles' sexuality than I am with what his first name actually is. (We know it starts with M!) My main problem with Sterek has pretty much nothing to do with the ship in principle and everything to do with the behavior of the shippers.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter because when Tyler Hoechlin left the show, any even incremental chance of it happening went with him.

So there's this chick in my office with whom I started to develop a friendship - and then sometime around March she completely shut down, stopped talking to me, and after having a conversation with her she explained that she just wanted to focus on her work and didn't want to socialize. Which is fine, though I had what I thought was a reasonable expectation of civility in the work place. If someone does something for you, say thank you. If someone addresses you (as in, for work related things), acknowledge you've been spoken to.

She did none of those things. I would relieve her for her breaks and there wouldn't be so much as a thank you. I would ask her direct questions regarding work related things and she wouldn't acknowledge my presence. And yet somehow her "no socializing" rule would seem to bend with other people in the office.

I finally decided to ask my manager about it, noting that I felt I was being a little high school for the complaint, but that it was subtly hostile working environment and worth addressing. Much to my surprise, she was extremely receptive (I think she's suspected this issue) but told me with surprisingly glee that the co-worker's last day is this Friday, as she has handed in her notice.

      All's well that ends well!

@Arkandel My own problems with it were atypical; basically one or two problem players that made me realize their presence was making me feel unwelcome and like it was a hostile environment. But I loved the setting, I loved my character, and I had no problems with staff - in fact, they addressed a major concern of mine with grace and did not leave me feeling brushed off or like my concern was invalid and not their responsibility.
