I'm in the camp of 'ain't got shit to do' for Christmas. I've decided to work Christmas Eve (so much I gotta do ;.;), but I'll be home all day Christmas Day. Probably packing, but up for distractions.
If we play on the same game(s) and you would like some RP on the 25th, feel free to gimme a nudge.
Same here.
Our side had Thanksgiving this year so the rest of my family is going to their in-laws for Christmas. I could have gone with but to be honest, a quiet day off sounds pretty damned good to me considering I've been working 60+ hour weeks for the past month! Hopefully I'll get to spend at least a part of the day with the SO. If not then I guess I'll be spending the entire day working on my AresMUSH project.

RE: MSB Peeves
@Ghost You don't even need to live near the border to get it. I live near Washington DC and can get Mexican Coke at pretty much every place that sells soda.
Alas I lack the necessary descriptive powers to relate just how much better it is than the American-made stuff.

@Prototart And Gulyás!
when i was in, idk, 6th grade I think I got into this gigantic fight with a boy because he brought “Hungarian goulash” to lunch and it was some weird casserole thing with noodles and that was the first time I’d ever seen what a horrible thing protestants had done to gulyás and i honestly still just deeply resent it
Sounds like American Goulash, which is essentially just spaghetti made with macaroni noodles. Can't say I've ever heard it referred to as Hungarian Goulash though. We normally just call it goulash.

RE: What do you call fizzy, non-alcoholic drinks?
LeCroix no es bueno.
I much prefer Walmart's brand of artificially sweetened sparkling water (Clear American) as there's actually some flavor in there. It's cheaper, too. Also it comes in resealable bottles as opposed to cans which is great for keeping the fizzy in.

RE: Space Sim w/Economy
It should be possible to handle alerts and such via the web portal, which would eliminate all/most of the spam in the client. It is also possible to do something clever with prompts but that would only work with a tiny handful of clients.
I am tempted to investigate creating my engine for Ares rather than Evennia, since Ares' web stuff is much further along and Django is such a beast.

@Auspice Man, I live in the pacific northwest and every single time I have tried out chicken with waffles it has had a motherfucking bone in it. This knowledge you are sharing that it is supposed to be a boneless chicken tender makes the whole thing make so much more sense.
That was where I tried it. I JUST MISSED MY SOUTHERN FOOD. Yeah, the PNW is fucking it up.
It's not supposed to have a bone in it!
Imagine those long chicken tenders (some places call 'em chicken fingers) instead. That's what you should have with chicken and waffles.
There's a taco place here in TX called Torchy's and every month they have a taco of the month and one month they did a chicken and waffles taco.... It was a flour tortilla topped with a waffle topped with bacon topped with a fried egg topped with a chicken tender and then syrup over top and I honestly dream of that thing sometimes.
I'd have to Nope! out of trying that. If I want sweet chicken, I'll order some General Tso's.

@Auspice that does not seem like a thing that I would want my computer to do. In fact, it sounds very annoying!

That's a great recipe for popovers but not for pancakes!

You could probably swap the Southern Comfort with Nyquil and no one would notice the difference

RE: Modiphius/2d20
At one time I was thinking about doing a Star Trek game with this system but I ultimately gave up on the idea for the same reason that I gave up on FATE and FFG Star Wars: the system is very "GM-centric". It works best with a small group of experienced players with oversight from a competent, inspired GM. Also, I couldn't find a single compelling reason to use it over, say, LUG Trek or Decipher Trek (which is more or less just a mutant D20 system, which many people already know). I just didn't think it was that good. I also own Conan but I have not read it yet, so have no opinion on that version.
Just my two cents. YMMV.

Will the most popular grid spot be the coffee house with the kink store or the karaoke bar with the sex dungeons as rooms for singing?
Naw. It's set in the 80s. It'll be the game room amongst the Pacman and Joust machines.
OMG Joust! My favorite

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
They gave me morphine when I was in the hospital for a subarachnoid hemorrhage. I went from screaming in agony to feeling nothing within seconds. After the second day they gave me Oxycodone and Fiorcet, which took away most of the pain but left me feeling lethargic and drugged. I disliked it so much that I finally begged them to stop the Oxycodone. I would rather deal with a little pain than spend my entire day feeling stoned (not in the good way) and useless.

Huh. I had no idea that there was a new version of Aspace. I'll have to check into it.

@faraday said in Is this hobby on it's last legs?:
MUSHes historically don't get a lot of traffic from MUDConnector
That simply isn't true. Until the site died earlier this year, it was, hands down, the best place to advertise your MUSH.
While it's true that most of the discourse there was MUD related, a good many MUSHers frequented the site as well. An ad on TMC was pretty much guaranteed to bring a flood of new traffic to your game.

@Darren Yeah. Just think, if they'd up and die already, it'd do wonders for your commute.
...to be clear, that was sarcasm, you human excrement; you're the sort of person who makes me wish God was real just so there would be a lake of fire waiting for you.
Save it for someone who doesn't volunteer at the soup kitchen twice a week and the homeless shelter every other Sunday. I have nothing against homeless people, only panhandlers many of which are probably not even homeless. Also, you do not get to have an opinion about how I do/do not spend my own money.
