      IGNORING A CATEGORY

If you don't want to see a category, there's a very easy one-step solution. On the main cateogory page, at the top right, you'll see a box that says 'Watching', or something similar. If you click on that, you'll see an option that says 'Not Watching' or 'Ignoring', like so:

      0fbda597-2334-409c-b2c6-e190345192e5-image.png

If you change this to 'not watching', the topics will show up in Recent Posts, but will not show that you have unread topics.

If you change it to Ignoring, it will neither show you Unread topic notifications or show up in Recent Posts for you, which means that you have to deliberately go into the category to see it.

      IGNORING SPECIFIC THREADS

Pretty much the same procedure, but the icon is different. Inside of a thread, in the right hand corner, you'll see a bell icon, like so:

      851a1957-0964-4b79-ab69-6455433e1107-image.png

Pretty much the same options. Pretty much the same effects.

      BLOCKING USERS

Ignoring / blocking users can be done from that user's profile page. It'll be, for example,

      52643272-718e-428c-aa22-76be8aebce47-image.png

This is how you now control your MSB viewing experience. Categories will no longer be hidden behind groups that you have to track down and join, and know you have to track down in the first place. But the opt-out is easy, and you can fine-tune your own thread-following experience.

If you run into issues, let me know and we'll work through them.

    • Politics and Debates/Reviews Unlocked and Unhidden

A few of you have probably noticed that the category formerly called the Hog Pit has been unlocked, as well as the Politics board.

A few of you might have also noticed that these are no longer hidden by default. That's not an accident. That's intentional. After review, we decided that keeping parts of the board secret/hidden was not something that we wanted to do.

Very shortly, I'll be putting up an announcement post showing you how to opt out of seeing these (or any other) boards if you don't wish to participate in them.

Please keep in mind, though, that the prior Rules of Engagement for these boards no longer apply. The Code of Conduct now applies to all parts of the forum, at all times.

Reviews and Debates can still get a bit heated. That's expected, and we won't be trying to change that. But be aware that personal attacks and general mud-slinging to get a reaction are no longer allowed there. You don't have to agree. You can even argue. But it needs to stay above-board and on topic.

    • RE: Question: Code of Conduct

I'll just go ahead and answer these.

Point number 1: Questions are welcome via PM because Ganymede has said that questions are welcome via PM when it comes to administrative decisions. She might decide to open up the board for it. I don't know. What I do know is that our standing request is to have them done via PM, so I put them in there via PM.

Point Number 2: This isn't a bug. It's a feature. You might have noticed, but certain persons have gone to great lengths to skate right along the very border of what a written, explicit rule will let them get away with, and then choose to cite that rule back in the face of the mods when told to knock it off. So now we've given notice that this kind of behavior will be seen as violating the rule in question. For 99% of our users, this won't ever be an issue. For that other 1%, they're now on official notice.

Been listening to Project Hail Mary on audiobook. This book is delightful. Done by the same guy as The Martian, and just as hard-science with wonderful characterization.

    • RE: MU Soapbox Code of Conduct

As a note, this Code of Conduct may be subject to change in the coming days and weeks. If changes are made, we'll make a reply post here to ping you guys that something has changed.

Keeping this thread locked to keep it clear and uncluttered, but commentary and suggestions are, as always, welcome via PM to the admins.

    • MU Soapbox Code of Conduct

The following Code of Conduct replaces the prior Rules of Engagement. We feel that a Code of Conduct better expresses the sense of shared community we are striving to achieve on MuSoapbox.

The Code of Conduct applies to all parts of the forum, at all times, unless explicitly noted otherwise.

Spirited discussions are still welcome, especially about games and game staff that you feel are engaging in questionable practices. We even understand that, sometimes, opposing points of view can turn into heated debate. But at no point are users to engage in personal attacks against each other. Personal attacks are anything calculated to demean, shame, or intimidate other users for any reason. Bad ideas can be called out. Questionable actions can be called out. Bad game design can be called out. But at no point should a discussion devolve into name-calling, bullying, dogpiling, or mudslinging for the sake of damaging another’s mental or emotional well-being. If you just want to name-call and vent about fellow users, there are other avenues. We suggest Reddit.

All users, at all times, are to show respect to fellow users in every part of the forum. Remember that every MSB user is a person. People have stories, and experiences, and feelings that differ from yours, and their experiences and viewpoints are valid. Don’t assume malicious intent from a post just because it expresses a viewpoint in opposition to yours. Ask for clarity before assuming the most extreme reading of a post, and respect the spaces that you're in. Posts in constructive parts of the forum should not be read as inviting a debate on a user's personal experience, or inviting users to minimize the experience of the poster. Likewise, users should refrain from posting in more contentious parts of the forum if they are not inviting commentary.

Users may not prevent or discourage others from interacting with other users or engaging in any part of the public forum. If you feel that a user’s responses or behavior are in violation of the code of conduct, bring it to the attention of the admins. If you just don’t want to hear what someone has to say, that’s what the Block User function is for.

Any user, at any time, may ask for private communications to cease. All users are to do so immediately and without question.

Sexual harassment, doxxing, real-life threats, and any form of harassment based on a user’s race, gender identity, sex, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, ancestry, age, or disability will not be tolerated in any form. If there is a question as to whether something would be allowed, ask. When in doubt, don’t post it.

Posts are to be kept to appropriate areas of the forum. If a thread exists for something, try not to start a new one and clutter the place up. Don’t deliberately derail threads. No spamming, no trolling. This part should be pretty self-explanatory. Again, if in doubt, ask.

Similarly, engage in all parts of the forum in good faith. If you are not a fan of politics, stay out of the politics forum and let those that wish to talk about politics engage there. The same goes for the Debate Team if you aren't interested in lively discussion. These areas are clearly marked. If you don't wish to see a thread, you can set a thread (or an entire category) to 'Ignore'. This will turn off all notifications for that thread or category.

Admins will interpret this code of conduct based on the spirit, rather than the letter, of the Code. Constantly walking the knife-edge and attempting to rules-lawyer this Code of Conduct shall be considered a violation of the spirit of the Code, and punished accordingly.

Now, The two Haradrim groups were where the 'forgotten' Istari went to, but it's unclear whether those two Istari corrupted the Human groups or whether the Human groups corrupted the two Istari.

Do we know that the Istari were corrupted at all? I don't remember reading anything about them. You'd think that if they were corrupted or doing the corrupting, they would have fought in the War, but I don't remember them being there.

Too many good friends casually cast aside over the years to count. Sorry, y'all. I'm better now... but not by much.

At least you guys got a raise. Our bosses are still trying to decide whether we're truly worthy of one.

When I put in my notice, my job asked me what it would take to keep you. They gave me a massive backdated raise and promised to make safety related changes. We will see.

Part of me is like, thank you, I really didn't want to leave, but felt I had to.

And part of me is like, why didn't they do this sooner?

Anyways, I am staying for now - but I didn't sign a contract and if changes don't happen, I still might leave.

Only you know what's best for you. But glad that something positive is starting to happen for you!

What you might be missing is that the Politics and Hog Pit sections are currently not visible. On purpose.

@saosmash Now I wish there was a way to add tags to threads, and you could have a game specific post that shows where all the threads that discuss that game significantly are. It does make me sad to see threads drop way out of awareness because they are inactive.

Pretty sure that you can add tags to a thread, but only in the initial post. Down at the very tippy bottom it has a place to add tags.

Most users . . .don't bother to learn extra functions unless it's pointed out to them that they exist.

Yeah, but like... isn't your whole argument for opt-in that users are savvy enough to figure out they're there all on their own, despite them being far less in-your-face and obvious than the buttons you're saying people won't notice or use because nobody explicitly points them out?
