A what now?
How is that different from 'make a temp room and pretend'?
Like -- how 'simulator' are you talking here?

@derp I'm still pissed that they discontinued/made impossible to find Diet Dr Pepper Cherry. That stuff was bomb.
Man, I miss Cherry Vanilla stuff.

This is incredibly small potatoes given the whole everything going on, but the continued unavailability of Sprite Zero (even in two litre bottles, now, was just cans before) this year is really starting to get on my nerves.
Coke Zero is impossible to find here. I feel your pain.

Just...WOW....YES!
Elon just tweeted that it was header tank pressure...not enough fuel...that caused the crash. They got all of the data they needed....and they already have SN-9 (a duplicate of 8), SN-10 through SN-16 already in production....
The speed at which this is all moving forward is just absolutely stunning.
I'm not sure what it was! At T+1:40 it looked like one of the engines was firing into the metal casing around it, so I don't know if it was low fuel or what but damn. That was exciting!

I never realized how different they looked and how much they had aged until I went all the way back to the beginning and it was like 'holy shit.'
I didn't start watching until about..... two years ago, at the recommendation of a co-worker? And even so, whenever I see anything from the first few seasons, I go a bit wobbly-eyed trying to process that.
But. BUT. If you like the Supernatural soundtrack, there's an entire massive playlist of it on Spotify. I was raised on classic rock, so the roadtrip soundtracks were definitely part of what generated my soft spot for this show so damned fast.
!!!!!! OMG !!!!!!!

Double post because:
Licensing
I recently decided to go back and watch Supernatural from the beginning because Netflix and hey why not, I can binge the whole show.
Except I kept thinking something was off.
And when I got to Faith, in Season 1, there is a certain song playing at a certain moment that very much sets the tone. Those who know the show know what I'm talking about.
Except in the Netflix version it's an entirely different song and I have no idea what the fuck that is supposed to even be.
That song is set to one of the most memorable moments in Supernatural, and to not have it with the shot is a goddamn crime. The soundtrack to the original seasons was the best part.
ETA: For those who don't mind spoilers, it's this scene. How can you switch that song?
Oh, god. Sam and Dean are babies. BABIES.
I never realized how different they looked and how much they had aged until I went all the way back to the beginning and it was like 'holy shit.'

In legal writing, you pick just one.
If you're a judge you don't even hit one.

Honestly, the styles I am referring to are “persuasive,” “analytical,” and “readable.”
Oh, that wasn't directed at you, just you mentioning 'writing styles' made me grind my teeth.

writing style
Law school peeve: If, in your Legal Writing course, you are prescribing a specific style of writing (such as that suggested by Bryan Garner in, say, "The Winning Brief") please make sure that you faculty knows that this is the prescribed style.
I get it, in the real world, judges and such probably have a slew of different expectations, but guys. Come on. This is the low-hanging fruit. The stylistic choice of whether to use full-sentence headers or handful-of-words headers doesn't have a massive impact on the substance of the argument, and marking people down because they did what you told them to do except that this professor doesn't like it is fucking stupid.
That is all.

RE: Gauging Interest: Promethean?
Promethean could be fun but you'd need a way to manage Wasteland.

My best instructors were the ones who gave me honest, thorough feedback. Who were willing to take the time to talk to me when I had questions. Who provided a cut-and-dry syllabus (really, there is no need for cutesy shit with a syllabus: there's a reason there's a formula. it works and people understand it).
Well, I can give honest feedback because there are two kinds of students:
- Students who think I am their friend, and are sorely disappointed; and
- Students who think I am not their friend, and are never disappointed.
My syllabus will be tough to get done, I'll admit, but I'm probably going to tell them: "Look, I know you have 12 weekly assignments for 12 weeks, but get them done and in on time and you'll get the full 5% per, up to a max of 50%, then we grade your final assignment for the remaining 50% because whether I give you an A or a D won't matter if you can't pass that bar exam."
I may ride their asses like Zorro, but those students are going to have a nice portfolio of work, some worthwhile feedback, and know how to litigate a whole slew of real estate lawsuits.
I strongly desire professors like this. Can I sign up for your class? (j/k, that would be weird or whatever.)

RE: TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't)
@miserenoch said in TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't):
There was a RIFTS game I was on for a while where they had a very neat system to counter this.
It was basically a sheet of points - for selecting an RCC or OCC for your character.
0 points was perfectly normal, no natural MDC ability or extraordinary ability, such as the City Rat, Mercenary, and so forth. They depended on equipment to keep up.
1 point was mostly normal with some natural MDC ability, but not constant, like the Burster or psi-stalkers. Or had some extraordinary ability, such as Dog Boys.
2 was for something that could naturally keep up with a small MDC beast, like the Jolters, crazies, Juicers, and most magic users.
3 was for things that could keep up with heavy MDC beasts, like the Mind Melter, and Light Machines.
4 was for things that could mow down lots of MDC things all in a row and was generally getting up there in terms of raw output, like Heavy Machines and Heavy Robots, the Dragon Juicer and Crazy variants, etc.
5 was for things that were pretty much impossible to mix with something in the lower scale and still have the 0 to 2 pointers be able to contribute, like the Starchild or Galaxy knights. Things that could wipe the encounter map in one or two turns.
So depending on your selection, that was the expectation in terms of your character generation, with things over 3 points not available to new players off the bat. It led to a much lower bar game, where having an MDC pistol in the city was a pretty darn big game changer. A small vampire haven was a huge deal and took a lot of effort to purge. It was actually quite interesting. I'm probably not explaining it very well, and I wish I could find that game again - even the old website - just so I can rip off their sheet of points because it had a very extensive list of RCC/OCCs and where they fell on the power scale.
I did some web sleuthing and I don't think I found exactly what you were looking for. Though Rifts: Kingsdale did seem to have some kind of Tier System set up.
Other bonus, Shadows of Humanity 3 has a very nice Class List with book references. (It only does one letter at a time so either click the link on the left or change the letter in the URL up there.)

RE: Dice code
Well, this thread turned weirdly masturbatory quicker than I thought it would.
-
RE: Dice code
Sure there is: in many systems, whether you succeed by a factor of 1 or 10 is irrelevant -- all that matters is that you succeed. On such games, the actual result is irrelevant.
Which doesn't rule out things like code malfunctions.
I mean, sure, you don't necessarily have to display the raw results by default, but there is no reason why they should not be able to be pulled up in a log. If you're generating a number, and saving it to an array of some kind (presumably) then it's a very small step to save the array results somewhere for the curious.
-
RE: Dice code
Later 2nd ed. patches and 3rd edition prints the dice right there next to the summary. You still get some folks doing a facepalm or whining or whatnot when they roll 15 dice and get no successes, but at least they're (usually) no longer crying foul at the system itself.
I was admittedly a little baffled by the combat system until @Seraphim73 walked me through a combat log.
And now I am gleefully learning how tactical combat in FS3 can be and it's kind of amazing. You can be a hyper-badass sniper and miss a lot. I love it.
