Ostensibly, yes. I play on at least one where it's a halfway written rule. But those staffers are at least smart enough to know that they're never going to be able to enforce such a rule, so it's not treated like a Big Deal.

I mean, it comes pre-packaged with its own fanbase. Like most things based on existant IPs. I don't think you're gonna get too many new people who just love-love it based on game mechanics. You either read/watch it and dig it or you don't. If you don't know what those are in the first place, there is literally nothing that distinguishes it from generic sci-fi.

And I disagree, mechanics can make or break a game(or do nothing either way). EG the humanity and Virtue mechanics in Vampire changed up how people looked at system+themes, despite CyberPunk and Pendragon already having done the same basic thing.

I -- disagree that this mechanical change changed the theme of the game. The themes changed, and they tweaked the mechanics accordingly to allow for greater flexibility.

Given the mentioning of generic rules, what is it about this setting that actually creates stories specific to it? How is the feel of the books or show going to come across?

By way of example, the Altred Carbon setting has cortical stacks and the ultra rich immortal class, combined tocreate a specific economy and outlook of humanity etc. After that its just a sci-fi setting, with action and crime as its focus.

I'm not entirely sure that I understand the question.

Are you asking what mechanical rules will bring the theme of the books to the fore? Because I don't really think those two things are related all that much. Theme is theme. Mechanics are mechanics. So long as whatever system you use doesn't wildly diverge from the theme (say, spellcasters in Altered Carbon settings) it should be fine. I'm not sure it's the job of the mechanics to bring the theme of the game to the fore.

I'm simply saying that by insisting that people abide by whatever terms you're using, which you absolutely just did, you're attempting to constrain a definition for the purposes of your argument.

What if people don't agree that the 'two terms are distinct' thing you're arguing is a valid argument, as they can be close enough to synonymous as to make no difference? What if people then, having opted to not follow those, disagree with the potential dire ramifications that you've laid out?

Nobody is setting up a straw man. I'm saying that I don't accept the premise of your argument because I think you're making a pointless distinction to prop up an argument that people don't agree with otherwise. That's not setting up a straw man. That's just me saying 'I see what you did there, but no'.

I mean, I know how annoying it can be when people refuse to stick to the definitions that you've laid out for the argument, because the argument breaks down otherwise, but I think in this case you're needlessly splitting hairs, and people aren't quite as offended by 'not-posed-out sex' and 'posed-out-sex' as you'd like them to be for purposes of making an ethical argument that people are disagreeing is an ethical problem.

Says who? Can those people not be seduced? Are they somehow immune? If so, then you're looking at potentially bigger problems than who's boinking who, and I would consider that a bigger staffing red flag than if they were just getting busy with someone, especially since there are often systems to handle who's getting what out of a relationship.

I think they probably would. I also would tell them that they most likely had equal opportunity to do so, and didn't. I don't TS on my own NPCs because frankly I don't have time and I don't like many people that much, but I'm not ruling that out as a viable path to power, because it's a completely legit way to get it.
