I think this is why I love the Old Republic era. While there's "big heroes", there's a lot of room for original characters.

RE: The trappings of posing
I think one thing that bothers me are people who pose second-person. Your character isn’t interacting with me the player, your character is interacting with my character.
This isn’t a deal breaker nor repulsive, but don’t be alarmed when I keep my side third-person.

RE: Home for Wayward GIFs
I have a gif I've been holding onto that I can't figure out when/where I will use it, but I must keep it at the ready.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
@ghost The Defiance MMO could have ben a lot better than it was, but damn it would make a good MU*.

Silly things you'd been tempted to do on/for a MU*
Ever had one of those things that has nagged at you for weeks, months, years that you've been tempted to do on or for a MU* but never have? Maybe it's just silly. Maybe it's just too large of a project. Whatever the reason, what projects nag at you?
For me, it's creating the worlds/lands of EverQuest in a MU* environment. Not necessarily to RP or even be public, but just as an act of world-building creativity, especially if trying to keep it as accurate to the game as possible.

I said something to the effects of: 'I found this thing called a MOO. It'll keep me occupied for a couple of weeks.'
Famous last words.

RE: Sci Fi/Opera Originality
@kanye-qwest said in Sci Fi/Opera Originality:
It's a bad idea to create a setting where people can be spread out all over a universe from the beginning. If you have a game that successfully runs for awhile and attracts players through story and atmosphere, you can work on adding other places, other destinations. But first, you should definitely create a reason for players to be together.
Yes and no.
I hate looking into a game, asking the game "What do you need?", being told "anything you want", and then get every idea for civilians / trader / pirate / random NOT-crewperson turned down because it doesn't fit in the box they want to put everyone in. Most sci-fi games that stick people in the sphere-box tend to keep even basic civilians on NPC status and everyone must be part of the crew so that they're "not left out of RP", like away missions.

Ermagerd, I didn't see it mentioned here and it's been a few months, but Doki Doki Literature Club is worth it.

I hope you can admit that appearances are not always indicative of behavior. If so, I think you'll see why some of us are struggling with what you originally wrote.
I suppose I do. Perhaps I assumed my reasoning for picking PBs is more universal - pick them to emphasize some aspect of the PCs' demeanor rather than 'this is what he'd look like without clothes' if being unclothed wasn't an important part of the overall character - but I'm certainly not offended by what people pick. Perhaps puzzled, though.
I would agree here. I tend to pick PB poses/clothes based similarly of what my character would wear. I'd want it to be a representation of the character, both in body and personality. If your character is a prude and you wanted to point out physique, there might be a more appropriate PB than a naked one. Swimsuits and workout clothes can go a long way.
I see wikis as a mirror of the character. If you portray your character in one light on the wiki, without specifically stating otherwise, I'd anticipate the same in-game. NFSW wiki profile, I will assume NSFW character.
But then again, I'm a fan of PG-13 wiki pages with some statement RP hooks and styles, and leave the R/X-rated details to the game itself (or appropriately labelled logs). Leave a little present for them to unwrap, so to speak.

But play it through a couple of times.
Think carefully about doing this. There is no returning.
I always tell people they have to at least get to the Festival before making any judgments on the game.
And to take the warning at the beginning seriously.

On Shang: Random chick with a cart she'd wheel into the square every so often, offering a variety of bizarre trinkets, all of which would have been amusing to me personally, but would be effectively relevant to Shang.
Example: diaphragm version of a portable hole due to all the 14-inch wangs flapping about willy-nilly.
I had a whole list once upon a time, but alas, I forget all the other ones.
This would be awesome. I don't play on Shang, but that's just amazing.

RE: Travel Times - Enforced?
Some of my best RP has been "enroute" somewhere. It's okay to RP being bored and throwing a ball at the wall. It's okay to RP that your rump hurts sitting on top of that horse and whine to someone that you want to rest for a bit. It's okay to get caught up by random bandits/pirates/whatnot enroute. It's okay to RP random gossip along the way.
Think Lord of the Rings. Can you imagine how short those books would have been with instant travel? How much adventure would have been lost along the way?
