Just want to be clear: If someone comes to me with an actual complaint that involved them personally I am anything but 'hands-off'.

"Hands-off" was a poor use of language. "Fairness-minded" is probably more accurate. I meant to emphasize that you and I differ in approach, and that I would probably try to locate the victims for the purpose of asking them questions about the accused.

      I don’t really need to ask. I’m a partner. I do what I want.

But I am beholden to a partner in life, and she demands that I spend some time with our brood.

I do love my brood and my partner, but the former need discipline and the latter disappointment.

I get to go to work tomorrow, though, so not all is lost.

      We should play online.

I don't always brag, but I usually run up the score to about 20-0 before letting the AI take over and re-enter the franchise mode.

      Tips:

      • Learn to cycle the puck.
      • One-timing is more effective than attempting to deke the goalie.
      • Keep your defense back.
      • Check the puck carrier at the blue line.

If there's one thing I love, it's EA's NHL series.

Someone making these things a focus of how they interacted with other players in the 'I wanna be a bigot!' way would have been glaringly obvious to everyone, given that environment.

On The Descent, I played a fairly bigoted character. Yes, he used the N-word. Yes, he used the F-word (for homosexual men). Why did he do so in a post-apocalyptic setting? Because he was a white, heterosexual man born in the 30's who became a vampire at an old age (60s), and it fit in with his character.

Did this produce interesting RP? I think so. Was he antagonistic? I think he was, in many ways. Was I ever called a bigot OOC? Of course not. Why? I think it's because I never really threw it in anyone's face.

For me, that's not the insidious thing about bigotry. Marches with torches are scary and frightening, but the daily seemingly-innocuous aggression is just as bad. Also, for me, I enjoy playing concepts that I abhor at times.

You think Lundquist is the worst? Try Price or Rinne.

NHL '18 isn't my favorite, but it's not that much different than '17. I find a great deal of success moving up the boards and cycling on Overload behind the net. Sticking two people in front of the net has the effect of also screening the goaltender, so I usually combat this by sliding my defenseman into the slot and wristing it up into one corner or the other.

Assuming he was setting up a traditional defense, this will force the forwards from the blue line down. You can outlet pass to the strong side, and have a forward slide up behind your piercing defenseman while the defending forward pinches down and one of the two "blockers" moves up to check your piercing defenseman. With the goalie in the butterfly, you can then pass to the opposite defenseman or across the high slot to another forward.

      Bam, one-timer.

I like to confuse human opponents by sliding up the boards and around the back of the net. On Overload, your other forwards will trail behind, so you can pass backwards to them (don't drop pass, ever). If the defending forwards are chasing, poke checks are more likely to create tripping penalties (which is very much the case in NHL '19). Once your opponent is a man-down, you have the advantage.

    • RE: Sexuality: IC and OOC

For whatever reason, I feel most comfortable in a few sexual modes.

When I play a male PC, he's straight. When I play a female PC, she leans towards lesbian. Most people presume that my female PCs lean that way, but I also haven't really had anyone try to pick them up.

I mean, I'm pretty sure that Clarice is very fond of Count, and would entertain sexytimes with him, but I'm also pretty sure that Count fears for his genitals.

That depends on the extent and the perceived intention. Step one is generally a friendly discussion explaining why that thing was bad and asking nicely to knock it off. Step two, you can leave.

Suppose for a moment a poster says something defamatory about a game. Another member speaks out against it. An argument arises. How do you address the allegedly defamatory statement? What about the speaker and the defender?

      I opted for ‘19.

Always take advantage of speed. Don’t check against players; there are so many ways to get around you. Instead, tie up players in the slot on defense when you can.

Overload is your best bet for your forwards. Keep your defense staggered and conservative, and they will cover the edges in the offensive zone. My passing isn’t always clean, but it keeps player defenses honest. When you are on defense, pull your controlled player back into the slot so that you have three people there.

    • RE: nWoD City Territory System?

My suggestion would be to focus on Point 3 of EmmahSue's breakdown. That is, in other words: "what does this territory allow me to do?"

In my opinion, the place to start is to look at a system independent from the PCs. Think about how the territories interact with one another: how do the Docks affect City Hall; how do the 'Burbs affect the Financial District; and so on. Next, figure out the scale of activity you want on the game regarding the territories: do you want it to be the focus of RP; do you want it to be a mini-game; etc. And then concoct your own system.

Now that the territories have their own system, figure out how PCs dominate or vie for them. This may require an entire system of its own.

I highly recommend not using Damnation City. Or Territories. Go with something that is tailored to how a MU works.

      @Arkandel

It has been mentioned that resource-scrapping isn't what people want to do either. Your proposal would force vampires to claim and protect territory, or else not exist. You're not facilitating a variety of RP -- you're forcing it. And for some players, what you propose is a bar to RP.

That's why I suggested an independent system. If people want to play political games, that's fine; if people want to eschew them, that's fine.
