You think Lundquist is the worst? Try Price or Rinne.
NHL '18 isn't my favorite, but it's not that much different than '17. I find a great deal of success moving up the boards and cycling on Overload behind the net. Sticking two people in front of the net has the effect of also screening the goaltender, so I usually combat this by sliding my defenseman into the slot and wristing it up into one corner or the other.
Assuming he was setting up a traditional defense, this will force the forwards from the blue line down. You can outlet pass to the strong side, and have a forward slide up behind your piercing defenseman while the defending forward pinches down and one of the two "blockers" moves up to check your piercing defenseman. With the goalie in the butterfly, you can then pass to the opposite defenseman or across the high slot to another forward.
Bam, one-timer.
I like to confuse human opponents by sliding up the boards and around the back of the net. On Overload, your other forwards will trail behind, so you can pass backwards to them (don't drop pass, ever). If the defending forwards are chasing, poke checks are more likely to create tripping penalties (which is very much the case in NHL '19). Once your opponent is a man-down, you have the advantage.
