Whether I did the community a disservice will be seen in what it becomes. There is more to the community than the people that I banned or who walked off to start something new. This is something mietze believed in, and she made me believe in the same.
You see the results of my actions and judge me for it. That's fine. But I think we saw and see the community differently. And I am not so vain to think that my departure, whether in shame or hubris, will do anything to fix what I saw as broken.
You are continuing to personally attack Derp, which is against the code of conduct; please cease doing so.
I have explained why I made the decision not to remove Derp, and will accept the consequences of doing so.
If you think I am responsible for putting the entire situation on her, that's fine; that's your opinion.
Let me make this clear: none of this was ever mietze's fault. I have taken and will take full responsibility for the choices I made and the actions I took. Don't put words in my mouth.
As for the rest of what you wrote, I'm not sure what will happen. We will see. Who is this place for? Whoever remains, I suppose. The people who've in the past come to me with complaints about stalkers or abusers visiting this site know my position on people who do that and how I deal with them.

I trusted him enough to bring us from there to here. Since I laid out my expectations of him and all staff, I think he's done well.
As I said before, what happened in the Politics section was a failure of leadership. I should have laid out my expectations: that we don't get involved in political debates or discussions unless asked to do so. I am not going to presume that he was or should have been aware of this expectation because I have been heatedly involved in these very debates before, but it is something I have pulled away from since taking over for Arkandel and is something I think is important to follow. I have always believed in the maxim "unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments", so I believe it is unfair to remove him for what happened there. Instead, I take responsibility for that and I will continue to do so.
I am not and will not debate your opinion of him. I will simply repeat my position on the matter. I do not feel that I owe him anything except an apology for letting him get shellacked for my failure to lay down ground rules before letting him man his desk.

No, I said he was doing tech advising and staying out of the fray. The "fray" was the constant and continuous attacks leveled at him in the Hog Pit at the time.
Looking back at the thread opened to attack him, he did very little to defend himself, something which he was more than capable of doing. He did precisely what I asked of him.
Derp has been helping us out since we migrated into Digital Ocean and got set up again. He is quite literally responsible (along with Testament and Faraday) for why we still have all of the old posts and transported successfully (because the rest of us at the time were not technically-literate).
But, yes, he has also been a third voice for mietze and I. His recent post of our new Code of Conduct was something all three of us worked on diligently for a few days. He announced the opening of the locked threads on my request, as I was at work; he posted up instructions on how to ignore categories, threads, and users as well because I asked him to.
There are still many issues to work through. That's why I am looking for people interested in joining the team. Voices are important.
I realize that I am coming off as terse and standoffish, and I apologize for that, but I am still processing recent events and am trying to be as effective as I can now that mietze is stepping back for a well-deserved break.

Mietze locked the thread after determining that it was nothing more than a personal attack. These sorts of threads are not going to be tolerated any longer. Questioning the change in policy regarding the boards is just fine, so long as posts and threads follow our updated code of conduct.
It’s been a long time since I’ve heard this game’s name. I hope that people return in short order!

I guess it's a matter of preference, for me, to discuss policies via PM. I've been doing this ever since Arkandel passed the wheel to me. I don't mind public discussion. I think that's what we're having now.

This policy was crafted not due to recent events, but to reflect how have been handling matters prior. I can think of a handful of folks who "escaped" sanctioning because they never "clearly" broke the rules, and most of us sighed in relief when they finally went far enough that no one complained when we stepped outside of the rules and banned them. As with most matters, we will look at everything case-by-case.
I did not tell Tinuviel that I would remove Derp.
I explained to Tinuviel what I believed to be the issue that caused the problem in the Politics thread, which was my failure to lay out my expectations to Derp when he took the position. I also explained I did not think it was fair to hold Derp accountable for an undisclosed expectation, and how I asked him to "stay out of the fray," which largely meant not to post anything further in any of the topics.
This was also explained to krmbm.
The recent changes to moderation levels across the board were the result of extensive discussion between mietze, Derp, and I. I am cognizant of their appearance, but it was the product of agreement between the three of us.
"Course correction" has been a slow process, and I appreciate everyone's patience through it. What I can say is that RL matters, which shall always take precedence, have taken priority. Until the admins as a collective are settled back into their normal pace of life, the process may continue to be slow.
Make Galadriel any race you want, dammit. Just find a great actress and write her to act like Galadriel, not Xena: Warrior Princess.

There was a past thread almost 5 years ago that discussed this matter extensively. It was a very vigorous and emotional debate. I suspect this is one of the many things that must be discussed again.
But as one of the mods has requested some time off, the debate and action will not be forthcoming. I think there are other options to explore, and I will discuss with Derp after the weekend, as he's the one with the most knowledge of how this place works (between us).
