I concur. It looks very awesome.

RE: STATE OF THE UNION: Hi.
Testament has resigned as an admin here.
The current roster therefore is Derp, Mietze, and myself.

Absolutely disgusting, my guy. Get out of here.
Not the right place for these sort of comments.
That said, the appropriate thread in the Hog Pit has been re-opened.
This one shall be locked as moot.

RE: The hog pit thread titled Admin Derp
@kanye-qwest said in The hog pit thread titled Admin Derp:
You locked it because an admin was acting a fool and people were calling them out.
No. I locked it for the reasons I stated. I am aware of the opinion that was raised; I'm aware of the reactions to it; and I am aware of what sort of fire that particular opinion is going to cause. And, no, I haven't an interest in debating the outcome, why it is wrong-thinking, or my thoughts as to what such an egregious leak will do to the state of the United States' governance.
There are many threads in the hog pit specifically made to talk about a single person, and the distinction between staff on a GAME being fair targets and staff on this board not being fair targets is a bad call.
My response to Devrex and Saosmash's discussion was not a comment on whether the thread was opened or should have been opened. The call to close it was made by mietze, and I support it. And dealing with the situation is what I am doing right now, and when the situation has been dealt with to my satisfaction, the thread may or may not be reopened.
Please continue.

RE: The Work Thread

Oh no, she made the remark there's a connection. I just don't know if she put it in my NOTES from my visit. And trying to get paperwork done takes ages, most of the time.
That's fine. You could always prepare a letter for her signature, however, and see if she'll sign it at your next appointment.

Yes, but that means getting the doctor to write me up something saying "Yes, the migraines may well be connected to the lupus and ankylosing spondylitis."
If your doctor isn't willing to offer this opinion, you may need to find a new doctor or accept that migraines may not be connected to your lupus or ankylosing spondylitis.

Racism is easy to write, because it's everywhere.
But that means oppression is more prevalent and common, and should correspondingly be easier to write.
I understand why writers fall back on the trope; I just find it boring and overdone.

@mietze said in Races in fantasy settings:
However, if the setting writers wrote things that seemed specifically steeped in racial slurs/stereotypes of RL I'd probably not feel comfortable playing in that.
I earnestly don't believe it to be difficult to write oppression and adversity into a setting without resorting to what we would recognize as racism.

AKA, I am going to get a serious write up. Now, are the migraines connected to one of my other, ADA protected conditions? Seems so, yes. Does that matter to HR? I don't think so.
It will matter when you calmly send them a letter reminding them that write-ups are, in fact, adverse actions under anti-discrimination-in-employment laws.

RE: Meshing Groups
It’s real hard to teach social skills, especially in an environment that caters to the non-social.

I don’t mind doing people’s work for them, but you can bet I will tell their supervisor and take credit.

Yes hi I was wondering if you would like to do my job for me please and be the bad guy but without the commensurate training and pay that go with my duties, that would be very convenient for me
I think we are presuming this admin had and can apply such training. (My experience tells me, no.)

And the answer is absolutely not.
At least, not without more compensation, a title, and possibly tenure.

Pro-tip: use the protection thingie that comes with your kitchen mandolin.
Ugh, mandolins.
I submit that the best way to avoid cuts is to sharpen your knives before using them and using the right one for the job. Also, knowing what knives you are best at. I'm no good with a Chinese cleaver, but the santoku works fine for most of my vegetable work.

STATE OF THE UNION: Hi.
So, we've moved.
I'd like to thank everyone that participated and helped in the process. Shout-outs to Arkandel, Derp, Roz, Faraday, Mietze, and Testament. Without them, we wouldn't be here. I am simply not competent enough from a tech-perspective to do what they did.
Faraday will be sticking around to help out with tech things as they arise, but will otherwise not be staying as an Admin. Arkandel, who has shepherded this site far longer than he was obligated, will likely be slipping back into the sanctity and safety of anonymity once more.
Unless I am told otherwise, Derp, Roz, Mietze, Testament, and I will be remaining as Admins and staff here. You can report problems to any and all of us, and we will try to get to them as soon as possible.
If you have any questions for me in particular, feel free to PM.

RE: RL things I love
Yesterday was my birthday, but today is Lesbian Visibility Day.
One of my favorite Facebook profiles put up pics of awesome lesbian representation in media, and that sort of pushed me to put up my own, especially those that pop up in non-sexualized stories.
So, yeah.

RE: Good TV
@insomniac7809 said in Good TV:
So even if it is a market overreaction (which seems likely) the fact that Netflix is responding by cutting anticipated shows, cracking down on password sharing, and talking about plans to introduce ads seems like this might be the start of one of those shifts where the company stops trying to build business by attracting more customers and starts trying to extract more revenue from the customers it already has, and that's a shift that can spiral really quickly.
Sure, but I do not mistake managerial incompetence with foreseeable market trends.
And that's why I have an M.S. in economics, not an M.B.A.

RE: Good TV
... Netflix sure seems to be going down fast.
Is it?
Netflix reported a loss of 200K subscribers. If you consider that it lost ~700K by cutting services to Russia and Belarus, you're looking at a gain of 500K. This is far lower than the estimated 2.5M gain it expected.
But there's only so many people in the world that can access Netflix and its content. That's reality. And there are a lot of services out there, many of whom pulled their content from Netflix to start such services (like Disney, for instance). Should we have been surprised?
I'm not. This is market and media over-reaction.

RE: Is Min/Max a bad thing?
Yeah, the census command is awesome. It allowed me to create a character that was pretty unique, even on a game with a standard set of action skills for particular roles.
