Waxing philosophical here, but how can we expect people to treat each other with respect and civility on these games if the general standard for many is to take the OOC drama from these games to a demilitarized zone where they can behave aggressively and abusively without it affecting their actual roleplay time?
The fact that there's a Hog Pit doesn't mean I cannot be respectful and civil in other arenas.
I don't think there is any reasonable policy that can prevent a person from allowing toxicity to affect them in other parts of their lives. To-wit: when I lashed out at Tempest, I was in the middle of a trial.
I don't believe that removing the Hog Pit will solve anything. It's not going to cure this place, or other games, of toxicity. Toxicity isn't just a matter of personal insults, dick jokes, and derailing .GIFs. There are people who engage in toxic behavior, yet couch it in what may be considered reasonable language. Niceties and politeness doesn't make some behaviors any more or less toxic.

Look, do I have to freakin' go down and cook for you? I already have to get you hammered off of bourbon.
C'mon, woman.

This coming from you, darling?

Every morning my youngest has an Eggo blueberry waffle. He has for months. He doesn't want deviation from that. Try to give him eggs, sausage, and toast? Tantrum until he gets a blueberry waffle. Cereal? Nope. Blueberry waffle or death.
My children eat what I give them. If they do not want it, they will go hungry. If they cry or throw a tantrum, they are sent to their rooms until they calm down -- and then it's back to the table to eat or wait until it's time to go to school, take a nap, or go to bed.

The current methodology, per as much as I can gather from @Ganymede's treatment of my suggestions, is 'If no person here find reason to object... then forever hold their peace.' IE, if your post gets 3 or 4 upvotes and no massive pusback, they just assume universal consent.
I'm not sure how you got this impression from my treatment of your suggestion. I explained why I thought it was interesting to me.
We could always go back to the 'lol trash fire' standard for things. But, here, I think it's good to promote discussion. And this means, in my opinion, that people ought to speak up if they have something to say.

RE: Random links
I've seen that research. The sample size is way too low to make any reasonable conclusions.
If avoiding certain foods make you feel better, though, I don't see the harm in supporting that choice. Like, I'm not a big fan of soda any more, so I generally don't drink it. And adopting a gluten-free diet will probably help a lot of people kick their high-carb-eating ways in favor of less-processed, fresher food, which will likely cause some weight loss.
What gets my goat is when people try to foist a lifestyle on me that, in their opinion, is "healthier" and "better." Like, get out of my fucking face with that shit, I like soy sauce.

I have, but then everyone starts complaining about intolerable cruelty and I'm forced to start all over again.

So... how do these sleeves (like the copper sleeve) compare? Do they feel like they're pinching, constricting too much, etc...?
I don't have much problem with it. It takes a week to get used to, after which you may not even notice it. I'd recommend taking it off to sleep, thus giving the tissue some time to breathe normally.
You can probably find something at CVS or Walgreen's to start with. Try it on an uninjured place first for a couple of days.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
@collective said in How should IC discrimination be handled?:
With respect, there are times when that's a burden that sucks for the people who have to put up with that same discrimination in real life. Why should some people get a pass into Narnia and others get hassled at customs?
Because no one can know for certain if someone seeks Narnia or not.
Because IC discrimination can be the basis for IC antagonism, and that antagonism and tension, if thematic, is a form of RP that can increase activity.
But, as Mietze points out, it is rare to find a player that can inflict discrimination and absorb the backlash with the sort of sensitivity to others that would make the RP interesting and rewarding, rather than painfully reminiscent of RL.
I think that this form of RP is more appropriate for fantastic settings, but I understand why fantasy games would want to avoid the same. But people hate and fear Geralt of Rivia, just as they fear and hate Aloy, despite the Nora, and forgetting or omitting that can sometimes make a setting feel empty.
For a World of Darkness game, I'd see more IC justification for it, yet these games may also engender the strongest kind of backlash.

The Amazon search algorithm didn't return it. What was your experience with it, if you tried it?
The athletic sleeves that purportedly have copper woven into it simply compress the areas. I don't know all the science behind it, but the idea is that compressing joints and/or muscles reduces inflammation and provides support.
I've been using one for my left foot, after I tore a tendon near my heel. I can't tell you how well it works because those sorts of injuries take a long time to heal when you aren't off your feet (which I am not). What I can tell you is that, for an ankle injury, I liked it a lot more than a Tensor bandage because those feel big and unwieldy around a sliding joint. I presume the same for a knee injury.
Athletes use these all the time, and they tend not to do adopt these practices unless under the advice of trainers and other people that know a lot more about the science. This is especially true for sports that require substantial agility and stamina, like hockey or basketball. (Football and baseball players tend to use braces because those sports have a greater emphasis on explosive strength and speed, for which you may need stronger support.) It's definitely worth a shot, though, if you want to avoid a brace.
Yoga is immensely helpful when it comes to arthritis in ball joints. My understanding is that regular yoga will help stimulate the movement and production of synovial fluid, the absence of which can cause arthritic symptoms. This is especially important around the hips, where prolonged sitting can cause increased tension in your flexors, which, in turn, pinch the synovial membranes around the hip joint.

On retrospect, I recognize that my previous comment regarding your alleged desire to see change was based on a false presumption. I recognize that I was merely speculating as to your motives and intentions.
@faraday said in Regarding administration on MSB:
I don't think forum software is the greatest way to record reviews, but since it's all we've got... one potential way to do it is to allow people to create a poll for a game with 1-star to 5-stars as the poll result options. Then limit people (by policy; I don't think the forum software can enforce it) to just one review post per game. No debates, no dumpster fires, just individual reviews.
But I think we need to talk about this. This is important. I think I understand why Faraday suggests but one review post per game. But what about the game owners and their staff? Should they be permitted to respond to the post? If so, doesn't that imply the need for multiple posts in the same topic?

@bored said in Regarding administration on MSB:
But let's be honest, you want a forum that isn't this one, a forum to suit your friends. Getting rid of people who value the board as it exists is just as splintering, probably far more so.
But you also want a forum that this one is not. After all, you are a proponent of a substantial change: that is, having an "Honest Reviews" section whose rules lie somewhere between that of the current Mildly Constructive and Hog Pit rule sets. I don't think WORA or SWOFA or IGU tried anything like what you've suggested before.
I don't recall anyone, other than Ghost, suggesting that the Hog Pit get pulled away entirely.
And I keep hearing "harsher" moderation where I have witnessed, instead, "mistakes by moderators" and "uneven enforcement of existing rules." I have yet see anyone actually affected in a material, substantial way by anything that any of us have done in the past few weeks, or any example of Arkandel, Auspice, and I holding to "harsher" rules.
So, let's be honest. People -- you included -- want change. But they want change with clear rules and consistent enforcement, and those two things are clearly in need at this time. We're working on the first step.

This is probably not the place for this, but how different is Ares from the standard FS3 stuff? Like, sheetwise is it still 4 attributes that go 1-4 and custom-input skills that go 1-12?
Ares / FS3.3 is different from FS3 v.2. FS3.3 is, from my understanding, more customizable insofar as what you put in as attributes. If 8th Sea follows BSG:U, and I think it does, then you have 6 attributes that go 1-5, and custom-input skills that go 1-7.
I think.
What I do know is that the system is gorgeous, and Faraday's working on a web portal and a whole bunch of nifty shit.
