@Arkandel I don't. But I also think that dozens of hours of RP that doesn't yield readable logs and said to be story specifically for the 2 characters sequestered off in a room together defeats the entire purpose of MU.

If what people wanted was a place to roleplay privately and not share their character creation outside of that bubble, then go to google docs.

Be it for TSKink, private only RP, or however intriguing the RP may be, the concept of it being "important to that one person" isnt greater than the need for people to partake in the communal efforts of the game itself.

Make it worth something. That's all I say.

Sidebar: I love my coworkers from India. At least about 70% of them. The greater percentage of them are pretty openly kind, low drama, love talking about movies and music, shove food down my throat, and ask me if I wanna partake in Holi and get assaulted with colored dye. They're typically great teammates without all of the ego.

There are about 30% who are pretty condescending and buy into that super judgy side of Indian culture that is if you don't dress super nice and drive an expensive car then I'm better than you, which my Indian friends at work explain is simply a thing all of them deal with; that level of pretentiousness.

A lot of them bring their kids to work. Indian kids are adorable.

My favorite cultural thing? The head-wobble. It's body language for I'm not saying yes or no, but I'm definitely not saying yes, I'm just saying that I don't necessarily agree and am doing it in a non-dickish way. The head-wobble is solid.

      End sidebar.

No, your punishment is that you're still here all these years later, talking about the same things with the same people and getting the same answers.

I wish I at least played so I had some kind of excuse for it, too.

      @Ghost, someone's taking your line.

Close, but it wasn't arrogantly worded enough 😉

      @L-B-Heuschkel

Wonder if it was the same lady I mentioned above.

She supposedly had inherited a ranch in AZ and had rescued over 40 dogs!

....but had no job and thus needed money/donations to support her and her kids and all the dogs.

Reminds me of a guy here in town who told us he lost his job and got a serious medical diagnosis. We put together a drive with our friends to help cover some of his bills. Probably 600 or so was donated.

He used it to get a tattoo. Not sick. Still has a job.

@Ghost Damnit I was gonna link that here. As somone who grew up with Andre and Undertaker, and Hulk and Macho Man, and Honkey Tonk Man, and and and... yeah. That was a good watch.

I remember waiting for the icecream man in the late 80's early 90's for those ice cream sammich bars that had the wrestlers printed on the bars and they came with trading cards. They coist like a whole 1.50 when everything else was like 50 cents.

Holy crap I remember those. Back in the day I was a huge Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Demolition fan.

That stuff about Roddy Piper and Jake the Snake really gets me. Those guys were just so run down and their bodies were toast by that stage in the game. The part about how Roddy said he wouldn't make it to 65 and then died at 61 misted me up a little bit. Those guys really do take a ton of punishment and have to keep performing despite.

Diamond Dallas Page is doing good stuff (he's in that video). He started a form of yoga that's helped a lot of people with weight and joint problems, and in recent years has brought in friends like Razor Ramon, Jake the Snake, and a few others and it seems to have helped their "post WWF joint and body ache" issues. Jake the Snake looks great now.

      DDP yoga's good shit.

    • RE: How to Approach (nor not) a Suspected Creep

@Auspice So...i guess my hot take is that in RL there is no IC/OOC factor. The assumption is that if the creeper is keeping it 100% IC that the problem can be mitigated or controlled through IC means, and that the real issues come when it spills out into pages, harassment, oocly pushy behavior, threats, stalking, etc.

So, IMO it's just hard to read. IS the player uncomfortable? If you ask Oocly, then the issue spills from an IC issue to an OOC issue, then it becomes subject to all of the OOC bullshit. Still, without learning Oocly, you have no way of knowing that the two players havent Oocly PLANNED to RP "creepy guy and uncomfortable girl".

Theres a lot of reasons why 3rd party is always considered in Human Resources cases at offices. It's totally appropriate to tell HR that the two guys making racist jokes made you uncomfortable, even if you overheard the conversation. So in that light I think it's fine to message staff that it made you, as a 3rd party, feel uncomfortable.

The POINT here is that if the issue is that you as a third party felt uncomfortable by someone else's IC interactions, it's YOUR issue. Dealing with it on someone else's behalf then isn't exactly FOR THEM, but it's your own personal OOC issue based on 3rd party witness and should be approached that way.

Let other people deal with their issues as themselves, but if someone feels inclined to deal with an issue on someone else's behalf, that doesn't make it their issue; it's yours and now the target of the creeping is a 3rd party to a problem that you have.

      That make sense?

    • RE: L&L Options?

IMO political games are very difficult to maintain due to the lack of social combat. I think that's why they sprout up, exist, and then ultimately fail.

At the heart of L&L is social (and sometimes physical) PVP. Lords and ladies compete. Wars happen. I've seen some games try to keep everyone focused on PvE against a common threat, but sooner or later houses are going to want to compete. If resolution of these competitions are left to "discussion" or staff decision, you tend to get stalemate "Refuses to lose/Refuses to be beaten" scenarios or cries of staff favoritism when rulings happen. I just don't think it's able to be maintained. History so far shows it can't. After all we are talking about a "new" L&L game after dozens have come and gone.

MU players don't like social dice, get weird about PVP, but also get mad when people lie (but if you're competing without dice all you can do is lie through prose) ICly or Oocly. You can't coordinate someone losing. Not with some of these people.

So I think y'all should really question what IS a L&L game, build the right systems, but FFS bring down some of the 'my story' safeguards and let these people fight and fuck each other over. That's central to the L&L genre.

@Auspice said in How to Approach (nor not) a Suspected Creep:

But by and far, MUs seem to consider 3rd parties as non-entities.
I've gone to Staff in the past to say 'Hey, here's a log/evidence in which my friend tells me that Dude is threatening her and is making her miserable and I have evidence of Dude engaging in bad behavior in other veins.'
And Staff's reply was: well, unless your friend reports it herself, we can't do anything. Sorry.

And this here is a failing of conflict of interest, IMO. Also, though, it doesn't seem to work any better if you report it not as a 3rd person but as a first person.

The prerogative of game owners/staff is to find ways to keep these games running, populated, and popular enough to keep a steady flow of "good players", which by and large at this point are the same 25 or so players and the occasional new player. So this is why issues like this aren't often addressed and staff wait until they feel beforementioned prerogative is in danger before doing anything. Now we're back to fear of retaliation. If you pay attention it's the same bullshit on every game. The only difference is that its a variable length of time until the same players bring up their same old behaviors or same drama with the same players over and over again. So it's often the same unresolved garbage.

This is something MU needs to figure out to evolve, IMO.
