@Alamias In Texas you can be legally murdered with a shotgun for touching someone else's books without permission.
Probably true.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Ganymede Oh I know this! I know a lot of really awkward, stupid guys that try to flirt by showing how much of an expert they are in stuff that the girls they like are interested in, and its like: FUCK, man noooooo stooop. A train wreck in slow motion.
A lot of the nerds in my town are into the Comicon scene. Ya see this a lot here.
What? The pretty girl I like also enjoys X-Men comics? I will woo her by testing her width of knowledge and then proving to her that I'm more of a superfan! She will be overcome by sexual attraction to my dominance that SHE WILL BE MIIIINE.
Anyway, no. Not in this cake. That's annoying AF @Cupcake

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Cupcake Yeaaaah. Dudes are weird. For some it's always either flirtation, pissing on territory, or both.
The problem I'm dealing with involves a married guy telling one of my female friends with ridiculously low self esteem that he'd sleep with her if she was desperate, but he's not because he doesn't find her attractive...but would totally throw her a bone.
I wish that in certain cases beating someone up wasn't so illegal.
ETA: Oh, and then the guy proceeded to tell her how fascinating she is and comment on how x and y parts of her body are really cute.
So. Predatory.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Cupcake I'm having a serious problem with a Douchebag guy right now. I wrote a 10 paragraph rant a few pages back and then deleted it. So I feel for ya. Not the same kind of douchebaggery, but over-confident dude probs nonetheless.
However.
If he's attractive and can be trained to not,be a douche, you may want to evaluate if he rolled a '1' on his flirtation attempt?

RE: Nemesis Board Game
@Alamias Was your Soldier mini a little melted around the head-zone?
I checked my kit and everything printed just fine, but I guess there's a known issue where the "Soldier" run was a little QA-failed. If so, take a picture of it and let the game company know. As I understand it they're gonna re-run those minis and ship out replacements.

RE: Nemesis Board Game
@Alamias There's a single player option and a campaign mode, but if you can, definitely try to get a group together.
I'm planning on painting my minis because they could also be useful for other games.

Nemesis Board Game
I just got my Kickstarter core box of the Nemesis Board Game. Hooooly shit.
(It's concluded, sorry to say, but will be retailing soon if not now)
Thia game is sexy as hell, I'm going to be getting a ton of stretch content for my Intruder pledge, and added on the Medic character.
This game is amazing and thoroughly recreates the genre feel of Aliens/The Thing/Event Horizon.
The last time I played, my character had a broken arm, was bleeding, and had an alien egg in her chest waiting to hatch. I had to crawl her through the decks and avoid the creatures to get to the surgery room. There, she had 2 rounds until she bled out or hatch the alien from her chest.
The surgery machine causes 1 point of damage (because WTF, like Prometheus, you're awake while the surgery machine takes it out of you), so I couldn't do it until I healed. I searched for a medkit, used it, and on my last turn alive used the surgery and took the alien out of her.
THEN I had 4 rounds to check if the engines were broken and get her ass to her cryo pod before the ship jumped (if the engines were broken, the ship would explode on jump) so that the sudden g-forces wouldn't liquefy her.
She ran. On the way she got attacked. She got a card that needs to be scanned to determine if she was infected again. On the last turn before jump she got to the cryo-bed, got in, and the ship jumped.
But did she live or did the alien hatch from her chest while she slept and it killed her?
The whole table was on pins and needles as I scanned the red plastic over her infection card and...
...clean.
IF YOU CAN, BUY THIS FUCKIN GAME

BTW, I promise I'm not gonna make a bunch of Nazi puns today. Nazi puns really aren't fit for public consumption, and no one really Goebbels them up like they do puns about other things.

@Auspice Dude you could totally drop being aware of this as something that inspires you to want to work for a culturally aware publisher.

But there's only so long before I want to control something. Build an empire, start a cult, start a war. Make a name for myself that matters not because it sounds cool, or is attached to power, but through sheer force of will, with no one's permission & on my own schedule.
Write a book. Seriously. Doesn't have to be good.
Or start an actual cult. Mail order ministry is huge right now.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Did some research. Houghton Mifflin owns the rights to produce Mein Kampf in the States, and donates all royalties from sales of the book to charities that focus on cultural acceptance.
I did...NAZI that one coming.
I guess publishing it led to a movement to remove all HM books from schools in the 40s, but HM has argued basically that for better or worse it's a culturally impacting/important book and (sic) that its best left for people to read and understand it for however ignorant, hateful, or stupid it is. (I agree.)
So...thats pretty awesome. You can buy a copy of it to keep on a shelf of historically important books without the guilt of the money going into some Neo-Nazi's hands.
ETA: Dammit, @Tinuviel beat me to it.

@mietze I want a Transhumanist bible written in Japanese with sidebar notes about Shinto, but only if it's the version God wrote.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Random thought this morning: "Who gets paid when people buy bibles? The publisher?"
Led into...
"Wow, there's someone making money every time a copy of Mein Kampf is purchased, and it's clearly not the author or his estate."

@Thenomain Is there some reason for all the snark?
Generally when people answer my admission to not sure of the point someone else is making and a willingness to learn with âno, youâre wrongâ.
I also feel that âit dependsâ is disingenuous no matter who says it. As a thesis to whatâs about to be said itâs mental pablum worthy of about as much consideration as same.
Simply, there's a lot of philosophy involved in this sort of thing, lots of differing approaches, and you can learn a lot about a person (and what the community will be like) based on how they approach decisions like these.
Yet you offered an either/or choice that anyone would be in their right to ignore. You didnât even try to engage a different approach when you felt that your question was worthy of answering; you doubled down.
So yeah, there was a lot I thought was worth getting a bit snarky about.
Hey. Idea. To avoid cluttering up this thread with "whether or not when someone says 'it depends' it's disingenuous or they feel like the answer actually depends on something", let's take this to the "whether or not when someone says 'it depends' it's disingenuous or they feel like the answer actually depends on something" thread.
That board doesn't exist because it's a stupid argument to exhaust onesself over, but if you open it I'll let you rock my world with Ryan Reynolds gifs over there, 'kay Tiger?
