    • RE: Autism and The MU* Community

@kaedric said in Autism and The MU* Community:

Autism was merely something never discussed when I was a kid.

When I was a kid, you weren't autistic unless you had to wear a helmet at all times to keep you from bashing your brains against a wall when you were having a tantrum. You were just antisocial or a late bloomer or someone who has a good heart god bless you.

I didn't notice how much pent-up anger I had over it until I wrote that.

@ganymede I missed that, though I shouldn't be surprised to hear them.

@arkandel Dunno. I no longer give a shit about Jared Leto after his behavior on the set of Suicide Squad, and will not watch his movies.

@silverfox I'm just impressed they can keep their eyes and mouth that wide simultaneously. When I yawn, mouth opens and eyes close.

    • RE: Goodbye.

@cobalt This could be 100% projection on my part, but your post does read to me like a cry for help: the kind a depressed person makes. I'm worried for you, Cobalt. I hope you're okay, and that this is a passing unhappiness you feel alright coming back from after it's done. If I'm wrong about that and this is a permanent situation, then I still hope you're okay, and happier in your new stage of life.

@hedgehog I'll never forget his delivery of, "Hey buddy, this is a family establishment. Keep your mouse in the house."

@arkandel Sorry, just checking. Are you tagging me in your reply because I'm the last person to comment, or is there a connection between our comments I'm not picking up on?

@jennkryst What right does a deliberately jingoistic tune played on a bagpipe have to thrill me as much as it did?

I plan to find to a copy to see if I actually hate it as much as I remember hating it back when I was a kid. Take that for all it's worth.

    • RE: How is there not a Gloomhaven thread here?

@ominous I get that you probably feel ganged up on at this point, so I'm not trying to do that. I'm just saying as someone who doesn't even know what Gloomhaven is, "I am extremely justified in yucking your yum, so quit asking me to stop" is a pretty weird hill to die on, such that I'm concerned maybe something else is going on. Are you a thousand percent positive this wouldn't be a good time to take a break, and come back later when you feel more fresh?

      • Aes Sedai PCs used loopholes they didn't in the books. "I can't burn you alive but I can immobilize and gut you with this here sword", "I'll use magic to throw a boulder at your head, how's that?"

This one, at least, sounds like you can nip it in the bud with a "don't be a jerk" rule:

"You can't magically throw boulders at humans. Your magic can't harm humans."

"It's not harming a human! It's just throwing a boulder! GRAVITY is hurting the human!"

      "Don't be a jerk."

@mietze I've dreamed about it ever since Professor Farnsworth used his to break into Area 51 and steal back the remains of Bender's body.

    • RE: Balancing wizards and warriors

@arkandel Well, if you're wanting things balanced on an individual level, there are generally two factors that make magic no more appealing than a sword: wind-up time (all else being equal, a spell takes longer to cast than it takes to shank a bitch) and/or cost (all else being equal, the danger of casting a spell is higher than the danger of trying to shank a bitch). I can't be more specific because the only thing I remember about WoT is how very weird it was about women.

@arkandel said in Balancing wizards and warriors:

How do you balance these different characters?

How does magic work in this setting? What are its rules? If it has rules, then it has exploits. Presumably something about the way magic works makes it infeasible to turn all your enemies into lawn chairs, so what is that something?

What I cried about is potentially telling one of my kids I can't come visit him at school (I had to miss his university family weekend because of my stupid workplace injury!!! We had rescheduled for this Sunday) until the van is fixed.

I'm not a parent, but being unable to see your kid seems like a good reason to start your eyeballs leaking.

I am in the ER for dehydration from a gastric bug. I'll be fine, but the nurse wants a urine sample from me and I'm trying so hard not to say to her, "I love your optimism but I need you to temper your expectations."

I gotta say, from all the admittedly incomplete information I have, what Macha is going through at work sounds less like bureaucratic incompetence than a campaign of punitive harassment.

I hate Papa John's business practices but love their pizza so much I suspect the conflict I feel is a sign of genuine addiction. I am glad Dominos exists, because it's a good substitute.

EDIT: "Eat at Dominos, it's a good methadone for Papa John's addiction." Dominos should fire me to write ads for them.
