@sixregrets I figured that was the joke. That his name is close enough that he's having a really shitty week because of that other guy. 😄

Truth is, from over here, I wouldn't know one from the other. I have no idea who either of them are.

Matt Gaetz is a professional Jimmy Neutron cosplayer who wandered into Congress one day and through a series of comically implausible misunderstandings was declared a legislator in the federal government despite his obvious incompetence and moral turpitude.

I've got this theory that the granular and hierarchical structure of the traditional Masq-of-our-own WoD MUSH is a filthy sodden sock nourishing the trenchfoot that is traditional WoD MUSH toxic fuckery.

Well, yes. Hierarchies inherently separate people from one another, and the powerful from consequences by insuring there's no oversight except among those hand-picked by the powerful to be among the powerful: their friends, in other words. The hell of it is, most people seem to want inequities to continue in the hopes of one day profiting from them, rather than removing them (insert that Futurama meme about how one day Frye might be rich and then people like him better watch out), so I don't know how to solve the problem. Transparent communication between staff and players seems to be the key answer, but I'll be damned if I know how to make that happen.

@crawfish Anecdotal evidence suggests it depends on if you've already had COVID. If you have caught it, the first dose is harder. If you haven't caught it, the second does.

My side peeve is people who think that all Chinese people are part of or support the Chinese government. These are generally the same people who presume that all Americans should support the American government.

And they have very specific ideas (that they'll rarely state out loud) about who is and is not American.

Anyone who thinks Israel and Jews are a monolith needs to look into Neturei Karta, and anyone who thinks criticizing the IDF is antisemitic needs to look into 'Breaking the Silence'.

I don't get the feeling that people who think "Jews = Israel" get to that position because they are receptive to self-education. Or any education.

'Derek' may be the least appealing-sounding name I've ever heard. It sounds like the kind of word that sounds like a swear but is okay for you to say in front of your parents.

Does everybody not have a soundtrack in their head?

I don't. I have a narrator who speaks in prose. "As she typed the sentence, a slight grimace crossed her face, barely perceptible in the brow, rather more in the lips. She shifted on the bed to try to change the pressure on her left hip and relieve the dull ache pooling in the meat of her butt. The pain had been escalating for the last few weeks; nothing serious even now, but the kind of thing her mind would fixate on with worry if she let it. Typing all that out should have made her fixate more on it, but instead it seemed to pull the camera back in her mind's eye to take in other little aches and discomforts in her body. Her toes were cold. She wondered, for the kajillionth time and with no small amount of exasperation, why she was like this."

Like I said, I haven't seen the new series, but I loved Tyler Hoechlin's scenes in Supergirl. I bet I'd love him in this show too. He wasn't brilliant at switching characters the way Reeves was, but I found his shift between Clark and Superman charming.

What the hell, they had never seen Clark without glasses on their whole lives? 🙂

I haven't seen the TV show, so I don't know if this applies, but in most Superman stories, it's not the glasses. Clark stands differently, talks differently, acts differently. They just don't look like the same person through pure body language. My favorite scene in the 1978 movie is just after Superman's date with Lois when Clark is about to confess, then turns back and collapses back into Clark, slouching into a servile posture, picking up a nervous stammer in his voice, never looking Lois in the eye; all done in a single camera shot so it all rides on Christopher Reeves's acting. Fantastic scene, and it's my permanent canon as to why people don't recognize the extremely recognizable guy.

Does anyone else do this? It's exhausting. Is this normal? Is this just me?

I don't do exactly that, but something similar. Like, if people don't talk to me, I think it must be because they're tired of me and want me to leave them alone. Rationally, I know that's not true; they could just be busy, or distracted, or even having the kind of braingremlin day where they can't reach out and need a friend to do it for them. I argue with myself about it the way you do, but in my case, the belief that their silence is indicative of contempt is too deep-seated to budge, so rational thought gives up too early in the fight for me to get tired by it.

@too-old-for-this If it helps you to know this, you're not alone. I had COVID in the summer, and I have never experienced exhaustion like that. I don't even mean the severity of the exhaustion; I mean it changed how I experience exhaustion. Prior to COVID, physical exertion could make me too weak to continue, but it never made me sleepy. It did the opposite, keying up my nerves to make it hard to sleep. While I had COVID, though, the effort of coming downstairs from bed would be enough to send me into a nap in the recliner with nothing done.
