@Auspice No offense to you as someone who lives there but personally I am just about ready to give Texas back to Mexico. And to give Florida to, I dunno, Cuba? They could probably use it.

RE: Critters!
May I offer a range of dogs?
I will be offended if you don't.
Also, all the best to your sister.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@Macha Yeah, I hesitate to say anything, but since it's kinda been brought up already, my first thought there was diabetes.

RE: RL Sads
@Macha You have nothing to apologize for. Thank you for sharing with us. Your sister sounds pretty great. I hope she stays healthy. She should, as long as she sticks to infection control protocols, which it sounds like she will.

RE: RL Sads
It's getting so bad that I'm not just worried about caregivers, I'm worried about the people who operate the hotline for caregivers who are in crisis.

RE: RL Sads
Everyone deserves to die. I can't think of a more awful torture than living forever.
Very few people deserve to be killed by their government to stroke a senile narcissist's ego.

RE: RL Sads
I really worry for our front line health professionals 6 months out.
It's getting bad. Most of the caregivers I know are showing signs of PTSD. I worry that I might be among them but too emotionally inarticulate to notice.

RE: RL Sads
I'd agree with that sentiment if not for the impossibility of preventing collateral deaths.

It's been made pretty clear by now that this virus doesn't care how little you're afraid of it. Don't fuck around and find out.
And to build on that point, because it is a virus, you are not the only person who is at risk from your behavior. You might be fine and your loved ones dead from the infection you pass to them.

RE: Critters!
This might be her final winter. I don't know what's worse - having to make the call, or finding her gone.
I think (and I say this with all the sympathy in the world) that hard ending is the real price for the years of happiness our pets give us.

RE: The Work Thread
Just had to send a resident to the hospital because a routine vital check showed they were about fifteen minutes away from having a stroke. In the course of investigating why on Earth this should be, the charge nurse discovered the patient had fallen on evening shift, but evening shift didn't record anything on it or do any follow-up because "no one saw it," which, if you're not in medicine, is code for "let's pretend this didn't happen because I don't want to do paperwork about it."
I'm thinking hard about calling in tonight. I don't know if I can handle my feelings about my job right now.

RE: Good TV
Wayward Sisters which is the one you're thinking of, about two women in their 40s-50s hunting people with the help of Castiel's Vessel's daughter and a tween vampire nurse.
Huh. For some reason, I thought they were, uh, the mother-daughter team from the first four or five seasons. I forget their names. But thanks for clarifying that. I guess I got some titles to look up now.

RE: Good TV
@Warma-Sheen They did spin-offs? I vaguely remember hearing about one starring two women, but there were others?

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@Wretched said in The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves):
Guanfacine(sp?)
That is correct unless you meant you take the generic form of a snot-loosening pill. Probably not.
Mind if I ask what kaiser is?

RE: The Work Thread
I almost want to get COVID again just so I can get another three-month pardon on having those hateful fucks jam any more pipe cleaners into the speech center of my brain.
-
RE: The Work Thread
@Macha said in The Work Thread:
Problem - if you have even ONE Covid symptom, you can't get in to see the dr. - You have to go get a Covid test. Tests are only given with a dr order, or at the Urgent Cares. None of the UCs in my county had an opening, nor in the closest two. So now my boss wants me to work tomorrow, because I can't get proof of being sick. WTF
How weird. Where I live, just calling and asking for an order to get a test was enough... but then, I work in a facility that's had a lot of COVID, so maybe the rules were different for me.

Not quite the same thing as you're all talking about, but I think I'm the only person in this region who, when telling a story, isn't compelled to preface a self-quote in a story by saying, "So I said to her, I said," like frigging Foghorn Leghorn.

RE: Interest Check: Time Travel Agency (Ares/FS3)
Fun fact, at the time that poster was shot, Damon was 41 and Blunt was 28.
Okay, it's not really fun, but it's a fact.
