RE: Good MU with sense of progression
@Sarah I also must know where you left from, as I am a needy bitch obsessed with drama.

RE: What is the 'ideal' power range?
Shocked that no one has gone and posted this yet...
I will also accept
And now I'll go read from the top, I guess.
Edit because formatting hard, I guess.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
@Lemon-Fox I have a whole rollodex of characters to throw at chargen, SOME OF WHOM are not direct knockoffs of Legend of Dragoon characters.

RE: Firefly - Still Flyin'
I would like to table the policy talk for a moment, and discuss the incredible sin of ONCE AGAIN not giving @Auspice and I a space simulator.

RE: Movie/TV/Whatever Mash-Ups
Tangentially related to the original post, as it is kind of a Mashup (and could work hilariously as a mu concept... somehow)... There is a game I like to play sometimes. Where... say... Sean Connery is a young British Spy who went to America and lived as a Historian for a bit, before going to Russia and becoming a Submarine Captain.
... this game is incredibly hard to play with Sean Bean.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
@groth said in Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu:
Historically [non-Solars] have been one of the least popular playable splats. In large part because [non-Solars] have just been worse Solars, all the flexibility of Solars got traded into [something else thematic, but] none of which is particularly useful [enough to counterbalance the SOLAR SUPREMACY!!!]. Nothing stops a Solar from [doing whatever they want because they are SOLARS].
Sure, they can't SHAPESHIFT, but they can get mutations and have SOLAR CHARMS in their Deadly Beastman. They also don't have a tell, so their larceny disguise charms are BETTER than a Lunar stealing/cloning a form.
Regardless I think the only ones who have third edition books are Solars, Lunars and DBs?
Really, THIS is a better reason for why not to have them as even 'trusted' PCs, at least until the book comes out. There has been an impression that Abyssals are going to be more than just 'solars, but spooky' this edition. Time will tell, but it looks more promising than prior editions.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@il-volpe I would like to pay this 9 year old for a copy of their story, please.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
The kickstarter is really shaping up. It is designed for multi-splat play, even, so... say... DBs aren't insanely underpowered compared to Solars. Sidereals are appropriately zany. And there's going to be a guide for charm conversion/creation at some point.
WE BEGIN WITH ATTRIBUTES, by which I ask you to prioritize how your characters solves problems. Do they attempt to brute force it? Do they try to finesse it? Do they... uh... try to stamina-it? First one is a 4, second is a 3, third is a 2. GONE ARE the DAYS OF 9 ATTRIBUTE SPREAD (this is the thing I have the biggest mixed feelings on, but I get it).
There's only 14 skills now, you get 1x5, 1x4, 3x3, 2x2, 1x1. Which is great, because I hate freebie points, I hate the subconscious need to min-max my skills for the most efficient XP spends in the future (bonus points: no XP. We got MILESTONES NOW. Which... yeah, will take some balancing on a MU, but ought to be easy enough.)
You do not have to have combat skills (close combat or ranged combat, not spread across 5-6 skills) to participate IN combat. Stare down the enemy as you both size each other up and prepare to duel... a cheerleader bard-type can use performance to increase the sword princess' skills... use Athletics to ninja-flip around and gain an advantageous position before unleashing an attack... or even actually use close combat to ATTACK and DISTRACT the enemy. ALL OF THESE use the same mechanic for building combat power, with the exception of the bard... who rolls the dice the same way, just helps an ally build power instead.
That bard can also give a rousing speech to bring companions back from the brink of death, in the most 11th hour anime companion helps save the day way! Or, I guess... they could use medicine to save them, too. The dice roll/difficulty is the exact same, aside from picking which Attr+Ability to roll, same as building power.
All of that? ZERO charm use. That's no majik bullshit.
Social combat is less 'mirror copy of physical combat' as 2e, and includes a mechanic that every social system in the future needs to include forever and ever - Read Intentions: How can I get my target to do what I want them to do. And then in addition to THAT, they go a step further - 'I achieved the win condition but they still refuse, so now I get X bonus that I can use during Y future encounter'.
Perfects are GONE. By which I mean, if you use an unblockable charm to attack, and I respond with a 'automatically block attack' charm... they negate each other and dice are rolled as normal.
To help save on word count, we got UNIVERSAL CHARMS. Which is to say, a whole section that is just 'every exalt may buy this charm.' It might be slightly modified... EVERYONE has access to Glorious Exalted Bolt. For Alchemicals, it is a Samus arm, and their pew-pew adds knockback. Solars can increase damage. Infernals get bonus damage dice if they already hate you. DBs get their elemental stuff. Lunars don't have an upgrade, but they still get the basic stuff for it - an essence laser that counts as an artifact attack that you can increase the range of if you want to let your anima dim just a bit.
Which you don't. Anima effects are all insanely good now. But you CAN drop a level of Anima, if you absolutely NEED to shoot this bolt at medium range.
Gonna stop myself before I go on like this forever. You can get access to the manuscripts at the $5 backer level, or... maybe find it elsewhere, but I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't gone looking.

RE: Fractured Cosmos or Unified World?
@chibichibi Assuming WoD: enforce drawbacks. Paradox exists for a reason, afterall.
Assuming not-WoD... enforce drawbacks. Really, enforce drawbacks on everybody.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
@greenflashlight Links are on the Project Updates page of the kickstarter.
Edit to add - it's the manuscript version, so still needs an editing pass or three, along with other versioning errors that need fixing. But! There's definitely enough to code +sheets and +roll and all that jazz.

RE: FFG L5R
There are specific things in both 4e and FFG L5R games that only Courtiers can do. I'm also... reasonably sure there are social combat mechanics, I'll look again after work.
I am just re-voicing the side I always take on the social-roll-play vs role-play debate: given the importance of etiquette in the setting, staff for such a game need to be on-point to make sure the normal 0-etiquette lion bushi is not out-socialing the crane courtier just because they pose good.
Hell, the L5R rules simultaneously solve some issues while creating others. Again, will re-read and come back with stuff.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@greenflashlight People trying to abstract HP as not actual health, which... I get, but also why I sorta like the games that abstract it with both Wounds for Actual Health(tm) and Vitality Points as like... 'dodge energy'. But also also hurray games that just have a smoller health track because a body is a body and incredibly fragile.
The inverse of this is where we get to the unrealistic... stuff. This foam nerf sword deals 1 point of bashing damage, takes 15 minutes for the light bruise to stope hurting a teeny bit. Except if I roll 30 successes and you don't soak them all. Now I've somehow decapitated you, because of how damage rolls over.
That's actually a neat mage or changeling weapon. Vorpal Nerf Sword. I'm writing that down.

@Arkandel Someone who knew we would need a palate cleanser after Star Wars hurt us so much.
Luckily, we have Jumanji to heal us from both.

RE: Rusalka's Bad Idea: Single(ish) Sphere oWoD
Controversial idea: WoD game where you play multisphere, but the players are all the black hat factions just ruining the white hat NPCs day. Maybe to be split into it's own thread if we derail on it too much.
