@autumn said in Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu:

So I would recommend being super cautious about copying one of the long-time pain points of Amber games: having a higher up tier of PC that's, well, better than the sort the average person gets to play. The other flavors of Exalted might be better kept as NPCs and/or villains; otherwise you have to walk a very narrow line between allowing too many in play (which risks the game becoming entirely different and no longer meaningfully about the Terrestrials at all) and allowing too few (which runs the risk of DB players getting cranky about being reduced to second fiddles in a game ostensibly about them).

This, incidentally, is a reason why a creation-wide game could work. DB politics on the BI or in stronger Satrapies, Celestials out and about elsewhere.

@surasanji Did 3e keep the 300/300/100 shard cap? I thought they returned to a more vague/unspoken number, while also introducing new types of Exalts?

@surasanji Sweet. I know I'm weirdly picky about the chargen:xp ratio thing, but it's not a requirement.

Now I gotta dust of my 3e books and see if anyone who backed Lunars doesn't want the Shiney collector book anymore (I clicked the remind me button on Kickstart, but missed the email. Woe.)

@sunny said in Why are there so many MUs set in Maine?:

I mean, when inventing a fictional city, it's perfectly reasonable to also invent a reason why there is a million extra people in the state where one did not exist before.

This is the problem. LAZY WORLD BUILDING (okay not really LAZY, but also not taking into account all of the things). Because even when you account for why that happened, you've still overlooking the rest of the world.

And since I'm the only one who actually wants an (abriged) history of settings so there's continuity, it'll never get solved. Because it's too much work, and needs to get updated with every damn character that's created, unless they do a group app or are open to re-writes based on staff suggestion. I've personally only seen it done once, and that's because L5R is... well. L5R.

@wildbaboons Absolutely. I believe the Virpil software allows up to 100 custom bindings, to say nothing of binding a button to a normal keyboard input.

... but again, you're looking at 190£ for a single grip, not including the base (either ANOTHER 190£, or 290£ if you get the smaller one that requires a mount?)... to say nothing of then getting actual mounts for your desk (or if you're feeling spry, mounts for your chair, but you need to go to Monstertech for that).

@auspice Hella sturdier and designed FOR space sims, but also hella more expensive and intensive.

A single stick and base will probably cost more than the whole x56 set... to say nothing of how you decide to mount it, and possibly need to take apart and do sorcery with the springs.

But also also, SO FAR AS I AM AWARE, Virpil is the only place designing actual left-handed sticks (though Thrustmaster does have a semi-ambidex set with their t-1600, it has some engineering issues).

Virpil also makes their stuff out of aircraft-grade metal because some hobbyists want their shit super authentic, so you could use it as a club and it would probably still work the next day.

I am in a doomspiral that is compelling me to get a Virpil HOTASAS setup, when elite can't even go beyond 32 buttons.

But qt least the doomspiral has stopped telling me to buy more 40k minis, so whee?

POTENTIALLY TANGENTIAL TO EXCESSIVE CODING CRUNCH... Elite Dangerous is adding space legs, and I'm >< close to starting a fresh save when it does, for the lulz, if anyone is interested in brainstorming shenanigans.

@derp HSpace! The code they used on SerenityMU, for instance. They use TSpace on AoA, which is inferior and we hates it, precious!

    • RE: Pondering, Space Trucking, One ship crew small MU?

Speaking for myself, about 60% of the reason I want space trucking is so I can have mindless game fun when I am too tired to actually RP, but not SO tired I am falling asleep. Space Trucking does that, and I can still be in-window to chat and stuff, as opposed to being in a full-window, chat-less instance of Squadrons or Elite Dangerous. The other 40% is split up between CREW RP SHENANIGANS (as this does not require trucking to do) and SUPER CUSTOM SPACE FUN TIMES.

... which is not to say I am opposed to a different game happening. I just want to be clear that when I talk about Space Trucking on here, I mean a ship simulator, not 'make a temp room that is a ship and pretend'.

@popes Either that, or somehow link the MU to a java something-or-other that wargame folks use to play online with.

Even if the 5e supplement could translate to a MU seamlessly and remove all my ISSUES with levels and classes... I STILL wouldn't want to open it until they added Warlock mechanics, because I am a Circle player, and I want my army of DoomGoats and RockMurder.

In other 'setting will never actually work'... uh... settings. I really want to do an Iron Kingdoms THING, but I know it will never work - between combat being specifically miniature-centric (uses the same terms and mechanics as the Warmachine/Hordes wargame), to the game being torpedoed by the publisher so they can make a 5e supplement instead (which WE HATES THE LEVEL-BASED MECHANICS, PRECIOUS).

But it has a bunch of fun stuff, from pig-men who are OFFENDED at the thought that you won't eat them after they die ('what, are you saying I am diseased? Do you think I would not taste good?') to gatormen with a sniper rifle to weird dragon-radiation mutants to math-cultists who get seekrit messages from their robot-god in a method not entirely unlike the loom from Wanted...

@Arkandel There IS a Mistborn RPG rulebook out there, that works incredibly similar to FATE. AND IT EVEN HAS RULES TO INCLUDE ALL 16 METALS.

... But of course, I'd want to be a pedant that includes the WHOLE Cosmere, so we gotta wait for MORE DEETS.

@Kumakun BOLD OF YOU to assume I wouldn't start out Chaos-affiliated.

Nearly every good book I read makes me think "hey, this would be a fun MUSH!".

But it won't be, for oh-so many reasons.

Joining my 'strong-arm a character from X setting into Y Ruleset' crew? It gives you short-term lolz, and makes staff go '... no, your changeling isn't Aeldari, stop.'

... not that I've been the one to do that. But it's always annoying when that BBPost goes up.

      That is all.

I made an attempt to start an Expanse game around two years ago and absolutely no one was interested 😞

I probably jumped at the idea, but shouted 'CAN FLY SPACESHIPS?!?' and scared you off.

I don't remember which of you crazy people was talking about Shadowrun: Anarchy the other day but I picked up that book and am reading it and damn why don't we have a MU of this yet?

PROBABLY because the gold standard for Shadowrun equipment/+sheet stuff is on SR: Denver, and Wyld hates anything newer than 3e, so getting NewCode to work the same way as DenverCode probably won't work.

@Kumakun said in MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't):

Doing all of this work with R. Talsorian's Interlock system - I'd love to do a game based on Gundam, or Macross using Mekton Zeta. preferably Macross, but I just don't think there's the audience out there for the series anymore. >.<

    • RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu

      TANGENTIALLY RELATED...

Exalted has the same compounding XP issue that oWoD had... so, WORSE than 1e nWoD, even. And it's been long enough since I looked at the 3e chart, I forget if they fixed the 'solars spend less xp on everything, in addition to just being better than everyone else' or not. So there's room for fixing things.

... my preferred method is starting everyone at 1 or 0, and giving them a pile of XP to raise things, but that is me.
