@tiredewok Depends on if anywhere else has opened Wyrm or Neohandi or various other supra-ebil factions.

RE: Shadowrun MUSH
@tirit Boo priority, yay Shadowrun! I don't know how I can help, but depending on the edition, I offer ideas and being a queue/job robutt.

RE: Final Fantasy
I haven't touched FF14 since the servers were flooded with Endwalker, I should maybe get back into it. But I am also waaaay too focused on Space Engineers at the moment (praise Clang).

RE: Testing the Waters for Battletech Interest
Mechwarrior Destiny is a newish rules-lite RPG, pretty streamlined, but I've only looked at the Beta rules that came with a kickstarter.
Then again, I would be the one using the tech manual tuilding a custom AESTHETICALLY PLEASING mech or vehicle, so boo on the streamline.

RE: Testing the Waters for Battletech Interest
ALLS I'M SAYING IS look at those spines. Battletech, Battletech, Battletech, Battletech, Battletech, slice of artwork, Battletech. The formatting standard got changed with the latest edition and triggers my selective OCD.
As for setting... I dunno. Everyone hates the Dark Ages but that is also when everyone had mechs armed with giant chainsaws, so there is some appeal. I hear good things about ilClan era, which is the newest. We'll see if Comstar is back to being space wizards or not.
ALSO, turns out BTMux is alive and kicking. Kind of. Sort of. Ish. But MUX, so like, nobody does any RP, it is all sim piloting. Which I like to kill time between poses in RP, but as mentioned, there is no RP to be had. So now I wait hours for the queue to Moonbase Final Fantasy or something.

THE URBANMECH PLUSHIE HAS ALMOST ARRIVED, AND DEMANDS ROBUTT FITE MUSH.
I forgot to necro for this.
514kb is too smol a size, there was much cropping and annoyance with getting this trimmed down. Also relevant - Catalyst needing to fitfo with their book design, one of these things is going to need to get replaced ASAP.

@arkandel A subscription model would make me want to pirate books MORE, not less.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@faraday I mean... 'flight crew performs saftey checks personally before takeoff' really sounds like more of an endorsement for my argument of 'actor should do saftey checks personally before acting with gun'.
I am in no way saying that it should be all on the actor. I'm saying when the armorer hands the gun over, the actor should maybe need to give the gun their own saftey check. Much like a pilot checks their fuel levels after the ground crew tells them the plane has been fueled.
Because THEN we can blame Alec Baldwin TWICE for this... once for not insisting on saftey on the production side of things, and then again for fucking around after saftey was not followed.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@faraday Checking all of the rigging or packing the parachute themselves is akin to disassembling the gun and/or making their own ammo, so no. I DO expect an actor doing a parachute stunt to go 'hey... shouldn't all of these buckles be done?' Or 'hey, the automatic activation device? The thing that deploys my emergency parachute in case of an... emergency? Should it be flashing low battery?' Or 'why are you handing me a parachute that has a knife sticking out of it?'
Another example would be an underwater scene. Someone wearing SCUBA gear should definitely check their O2 levels before going through whatever acting tricks they need to do to get in character for the scene.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@faraday said in Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever:
Also, many directors feel that blanks give a more immersive feel. They look better (CGI muzzle flashes don't quite look right) and the actors react more realistically (the pop of gunpowder in a blank makes them flinch).
Earlier someone said not everyone does the Keanu Quantico level training. But given that like 98% of every shot taken by John Wick is so close you cannot safely use blanks, so the whole film is done with rubber guns and all the effects are done in post... I dunno, maybe everyone should? I personally haven't heard any of the pro-gun folks call the film out for unrealistic muzzle flashes, but they could be out there.
As for 'the actors have to focus on acting, they should not have to stop and check their equipment for saftey'... if they can't do that, then maybe they should not be acting in roles where saftey measures are needed? For example... I do not want to eat a meal prepared by a cook who only focused on making the food taste good, but had no regard for salmonella.

RE: Oh, Humanity
Customer places an order over the phone: I want to order a Cheesesteak with Everything.
Me: Alright, so when you say everything....
Everything.
Me: Okay, I will read out what everything means. Lettuce? (yes) Tomatoes? (no) Fried Onions? (no) Mushrooms? (no) Banana Peppers? (no) Bell Peppers? (no) Sweet Peppers? (no) Mustard? (no) Mayonnaise? (no) Ketchup? (yes) Oregano? (no) Black Olives? (no) Oil? (no) Vinnegar? (no)
...
TO THIS PERSON. 'Everything' MEANS 'Lettuce and Ketchup'.
They are singlehandedly the reason why I always read off every weird topping when people ask for everything. And I will give some people credit, they do in fact say yes when I get to like... 'Are you SURE you want Ketchup on this Italian sub?' But holy shit are most people dumb.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
Necro because like one random ad for Eternals made me go 'ooh, sparkly weapon that kills big monster' and now I am in an Exalted mood again. Why does my brain do this?

The only cure for that headache is to just join all the WoD games and

RE: Rinel banned
Heated statements aside, I can understand HALF of the accusation. Kinda. Sorta. But I am a dumb tuba player, so I dunno. This is not the place to discuss it, though.
Alas, when the thread was locked, cooler heads could not go back and edit the posts. Incidentally, we also cannot see the edit history of posts that WERE changed.
Edit: it's possible something is messed up on my end, I can't check edit history on unlocked threads, either.

RE: Dune
@reimesu The whole soundtrack is just chef kiss in a way I personally do not expect from Zimmer... that one motif is just brought up for great wake up alarm potential. About as strong a WAKE UP energy as the Lion King intro.
... though not without critique, which I should throw into the movie thread, I guess.

RE: Dune
Unrelated to plot or story or anything else, I am going on record that the soundtrack to part one slaps harder than anything written by Hans Zimmer has any right to. I am >< close to putting the leitmotif from Paul's Dream as my alarm ringtone, and would have done it already if I didn't think I would get stabbed by my roommate over my phone just SCRRAMING every morning.

RE: Dune
I read it during a band camp (yes, I am that nerd, shut up) after the Sci Fi miniseries came out, and didn't see the Lynch version until later. So I had the benefit of movie visuals to help get ideas across...
... and even then, I still missed a bunch of stuff. Dune is hella dense. Like, you-have-to-read-the-appendices-to-get-everything-and-will-still-miss-stuff dense.
Which is where YouTube people explaining things to me in Tuba-dummy-talk helps!
It is still an okay read, and much less of a slog with the various films and video essays to help make me feel witty enough to grok everything on my own.

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
@misadventure Not sure if this is pro- or anti-Grey Jedi, but I'mma just take a second to Soapbox about how dumb they are as a concept, the writer who introduced them is dumb, and the film canonization of the Light Side is one of the more unforgiving sins of episode 7.

Back on topic... wait, what is the topic? It says Balancing, but WoT keeps getting brought up about how they are NOT balanced. Which... fair. Do you want to ignore theme and balance them? Do you want to adhere to theme and ignore balance? Are you prepared to deal with the complaints of the people who think you chose poorly?
