Some poor bastard died on the motorway. It has been closed for a day now. It is like the people who usually drive on motorways have forgotten how to drive on tiny country lanes....

I've totally lurked on the server, but I am afraid I just don't have the brain power to launch into a new world.
Once I can scramble myself I really would love to play though.
You'll be welcome but we get the energy thing. Half the server and the whole of the staff (aka me) have had the delights of flu. ๏ธ

Haven't really noticed any cotton mouth, but the amitriptylin has been my major dry mouth contributor in the first place so perhaps I just lumped it all together.
If it helps, one of my patients swears by a tiny amount of olive oil rinsed around the mouth. Thry used flavored ones...

Can I just say I wanna see more posts like this as I start trying to think about having to do things along these lines?
I'm happy to brainstorm but I bought books to figure some shit out. Any by the thesis whisper are great. I'm also going to do a poster presentation to help them build up to a case study. They just have to present the facts of the case in the poster, and then do more analysis and in-depth work for the case study.
For the research module, we're using the recent footballers' wives drama as a dissertation example, and I'm doing exercises like "tweet the paper" and giving them a paper with no title or abstract, asking them to write those. There is also the peanut butter and jelly sandwich instructions to illustrate how much data to expect within a methods chapter...
I am using juggling on friday to demostrate health behaviour theory
I changed the formative assessment on the module I just inherited. I took it from a submitted piece of work to an in-class discussion of their planned essay. Students emailed me to tell me they loved it and wish all units would!

There are a lot of moving parts and I have broken many of them.
Part of this is because, as mentioned, Ares is still in beta. There are many configuration items, and sometimes it's not as tolerant as it should be to improper settings. It's continually being improved, though.
But as you know (but FYI for others), most cases are easily resolved on the Discord. "I changed the foo settings and now I'm getting this weird error on app review." "Oh, it's because xyz is blank." Having detailed error logs makes it easy most of the time
Yup! My routine is "Undo what you just did and work out why it did that", and then "screenshot and send to discord with wail for help"
@faraday can tell you that I am NOT a natural coder by any means. I live with a Ruby coder, and he has tried and tried to teach me to code. I used to be vaguely proficient at mud coding but it has gone the way of all my memory things...
So when I say that you do not need to be a coder, I speak from being someone who is incapable to retaining the information to learn to code. Some of us are, you know You do, however, need to have persistence and use the support network @faraday has set up. There are a lot of moving parts and I have broken many of them.
@faraday said in Serious Question About Making A MU:
@Mercutio I would add to that a new branch:
Do You Have a Coder?
--> No
Are You Willing to Run with the AresMUSH code as-is? (Bearing in mind that there are several plugins available for different skill systems.)
---> Yes
Use Ares. You don't need a coder.Though I will put out my usual disclaimer that Ares is still in Beta. It's very stable, but bugs do happen.
I'll note that, as a noncoder, I've been able to set up discworld mush entirely in ares with support from @faraday and the discord.

Damn, but y'all missed your calling as attorneys.
Don't attorneys have to wear pants, though? And do any sort of due diligence, and follow ethics, and do paperwork?
Depends who they work for, I believe...

- Keep in mind to include any skills that you have used in the time since you've worked - any groups you've been part of (professional or hobby) could have marketable skills. (Not joking, I know a lot of people who have used gaming related skills on their resume - I'm one of them.)
Three friends of mine got jobs at Sony, citing the work they did on Discworld MUD. Include your gaming skills!

Work: You need to apply for this course as a condition of your job.
Me: Applies for job, comes across bit that says "give form to manager", so gives form to manager.
Manager: No, there is a fee waiver button you must press.
Me: There is not a button.
Manager to admissions: Where is the button?
Admissions: we will look into this.
Today:
Work: You are doing that course but you also have to apply for it in a second way that is identical with the same information but just requires you to input it all again.
Me: Does that. Finds form that says "give form to manager".
Meanwhile:
Admissions: We have closed your problem: we no longer use the paper form, please press the button.
Me: Please see original email in this thread where I said THERE IS NO BUTTON

I was running a shadowrun campaign, and they were rescuing some pods of technomancers. One of the players decided he would link to them all, rolled incredible rolls over and over so I let him. Now he lives with ten technomancers dropping into his head at various moments who I have control over...

Swimming in from the blackness of space, there is a world, resting on the back of four elephants, riding on a turtle...

Welcome to Discworld MUSH!
Set in Ankh-Morpork, we have set our roleplaying game in a place where belief is real, where barbarian heroes drink alongside wizards, where witches use headology to fight their battles, and where you are welcome to write your own story. We know that the biggest fear of playing on this game is letting Terry Pratchett's writing down but in the words of the patrician, Vetinari, "We play and are played and the best we can hope for is to do it with style."
In our universe, down the trousers of time from Terryโs, you can be a Lord or a Lady, a thief or a wizard, a troll or a dwarf. You can play political games, spend time in the Mended Drum, or brawl in the Shades. Be part of a Guild, or be unguilded - this is a world where any story can be told. Be a politician or a beggar.
We are now opening for beta testing, with limited places to match our limited staffing capacity!

Then I demand a Jeremy Kyle edition of this drama.
We'll have none of your weak imported style shows, thank you very much. Standards to maintain, dontcha know! My honourable colleague from up north clearly felt strongly about this.
I also admit to befuddlement about the game's name... And bemusement.

@Auspice If I were in your area I would without fail. Unfortunately I live in Arkansas, not a land known for a glut of MUSHers.
Three things tend to get doctors to change their tune on mental health. There is a lot of things I could ask to customize this advice for you, but these are almost always applicable.
- 'Have you used the DSM-5 to evaluate what I've been telling you my symptoms are? Are you trained in the DSM-5? If not, can I been seen by someone who is?'
The DSM-5 is the diagnostic criteria for mental disorders, fifth edition. The one currently in use everywhere, and the one-off which all doctors have to demonstrate a patient's medical needs.
It's also missing a ton of "newer" evidence, and has very little evidence base. It is still, however, a useful tool to beat recalcitrant doctors who don't know enough about mental health with. We use the NICE guidelines over here for the same beating. When it comes to fibro though, the medical profession are a bit behind the curve. Is this useful to take? - a little old but if it says the treatment you want, it is a source they might listen to.
