    • RE: The Work Thread

Starting to feel a little better. Not 100 percent again. I think partly why I got sick with Omicron despite vaccines and past covid, was overworked, stressed and very high viral load.

Mostly right now I have intense exhaustion, headaches and low grade fevers - but I seem be turning a corner from the worse of it.

I decided that I am taking a little time off work, until I am def off isolation, but also until I feel okay. It will probably come to taking about week off.

It is not ideal and my work will not be happy with that, but I have been with them loyally through the whole pandemic. I was in tears of exhaustion when they called me in and then when they like you are positive, but keep working. I was like.....I had a moment where I was like about to totally break down.

I feel like in order to keep going and in order to be a strong nurse for my patients, I need to rest and get these headaches under control. But I do feel a little bad, because I care about my patients and want to be there for them.

I feel fallen in battle. I am staying home until I feel better and am not catchy. But it was hard decision. I have covid brain fog and headaches, don't want to risk errors too.

It's a crazy story I am almost to burnt to talk about. I just couldn't keep going exhaustion was to much. At home. I feel anxious. Let people down. But just can't . I need to rest.

Some manager who worked from home entire pandemic and still works from home told us floor nurses hazard pay is cancelled because omicron is just a cold. Rage... I wanted to tell you them why have you never come here then?

      @ganymede

I still work shifts as long as 17 hours in full PPE without breaks
and yup covid+ people have worked. Which I don't agree with for many reasons, including infection control, but also nurses positive with covid deserve time to heal too. Pandemic is still happening. Nurses are not being treated great. Like they cancelled our hazard pay, work us under staffed, cancel breaks and do mandatory overtime which can be /a lot/ of mandatory overtime. and now some think nurses should work when sick with covid and go without sleep when sick. Nurses who took time off with omicron had to fight for sick pay

Also I am super greatful to all the Door Dash, Delivery, Grocery store workers who worked through the pandemic.

Door Dash saved my ass on some of those crazy long shifts and I super appreciate that there were people willing to do such work.

I think they are pandemic heros.

I have used Door Dash and Grocery delivery a lot during the pandemic for a few reasons.

One is working so many hours. Like I had some shifts longer than 16 hours where I couldn't leave to go get food.

The other reason is that is reduces the spread of covid, if someone who worked a covid unit is not going out into the store.

That being said I have always done a few things to try be ethical about it.

      1. I tip generously. I tip more than most would say I should. But I would rather over tip than under tip.
      2. I don't complain, write bad reviews, give the driver a hard time. Even if things are not perfect, I assume they were busy, things were out of stock or the resturant not them messed up the order and etc. Things are hard now and I am just glad someone brought me coffee, I don't sweat the small stuff!
      3. If I am able to, such as if they call me or text me, I always say thank you.
      4. I try to limit their exposure to covid and to me when I am around covid, saying leave it by the door and etc. Most the the time the drivers don't even see me. I am like don't even come near me, just leave it and run!

We had that at my work, pushing back less important lab work due to supply shortages.

I had the same reaction as @GreenFlashlight and didn't say anything about it before, cause I already said something about that in the past ont his forum.

I am fully vaccinated before you all go rawr anti vaxxer.

These posts read like wishing death on people and it is imo messed up.

I know more people than I can count who got all three vaccines and got covid, a few got really sick. This doesn't mean that I am against vaccines. I think the vaccines likely made the cases milder than they would have been.

But....there are some of us still dealing with covid, with friends, family, co-workers, patients who have covid.

And I for one don't want to hear even on MSB people wishing covid death on other people.

I have seen too much death from covid and it not a fate I wish on anyone.

I am sure this post will piss some people off, but at this point, I don't even care.

I know many many people who got all three vaccines and even had covid last year, who are getting covid.

Disclaimer: I think the vaccines are keeping the illness more mild.

That being said, I think you are making the right choice not to discount it as just a cold. It could be covid, but hopefully it will be mild covid if so.

My thoughts are with you, feel better.

Working an ourbreak. It is intense, mostly because of short staffing, we actually have less staff than last year. Lots of health care workers burnt out and many nurses have gone agency and are moving to whatever state puts in the highest bid.

Starting to get energy again though. I get energized from crisis. So peeps are wired that way.

There is alot more I can say, but there is still so much we don't know about Omicron that I a bit not sure about it saying it.

      But I will say this..

Omicron seems more mild - but there are still some serious cases. People can get it who are vaxxed and had covid before which is not me trying cast doubt on vaccines, it is very likely the vaccines are keeping many cases mild. But I do think it is a reason to still mask up and be careful.

I am quaranting when not at work as a precaution since I am around so much of it. So far tested negative and feel good though. I am vaxxed and had covid last year.

      @mietze
I have a hard time paying attention to tv shows. I daydream or start to do other things. Sometimes I want to know about a story, but I don't have the attention span to watch a show and will watch utube reviews in place of watching the actual show!

I also can pay attention to utube short utube videos about 15 mins and under, way more than I can a tv show and I can pay attention to how to videos (for me its mostly on gardening) much better than I can to a fiction storyline.

I want to like Wheel of Time, but it is hard for me to keep focused on, so I watch it, trail off, miss half the stuff and then watch utube. I even got some understanding from reading MSB about it!

I watched the start of the first episode of witch about 10 times and still cannot tell you how it starts.

      Off work tomorrow!

So I am celebrating by watching utube vidoes of people's seed hauls!

Like ooooo look at the seeds I got 2022.

That is kind of silly, but shockingly fun! Seeds!

    • RE: Autism and The MU* Community

I read the question are people with Autism more insecure? At least I think that is what I read, but I have autism!

So my first reaction to that is, sometimes, oftentimes, but certainly not always and maybe not even mostly.

I do think (although I could be wrong) that there is greater risk of low self esteem in people on the spectrum. But I also think that people on the spectrum are so varied and different from reach other, there is no generalization that really works either.

I have suffered with intense insecurity and low esteem that recently (While far from perfect) is much improved. There were two things that really helped it it improved.

      1. One was working on a covid unit. Maybe sounds nutty, but in doing such I was like I am needed I am valuable to society and to other people. I have brave and strong too!

      2. Another thing that helped my insecurity was accepting that not everyone likes me and that is okay and that people can dislike me without it being a big deal or without them having any ill will towards me. I learned that from Arx of all places!

I think there are few things that help with confidence in autism.

      1. Is viewing autism as being different, but not being broken. I was taught as a child that I was a disappointment and broken. When i came to see myself as simply different, but not broken, things got better.

      2. Accepting that one has autism, knowing one has autism and being able to talk about it also helps. That is why I think it is a mistake to hide an autism dx from children as some parents do. I knew since I was little I had autism, but some don't find out until later and I think that can be hard.

      3. Money/finances/job/a place to live being okay. Some people on the spectrum are not in a place of being able to work and for them it is important they have support and have their basic needs taken care of. I am very capable of working, but not everyone autistic person is and some can work if given support, but that support needs to be given. My job is aware of my autism and supportive about such.

      4. Excepting that not everyone is not going to like one and that such is okay. That people can even dislike you and wish you the best and etc. You cannot please everyone, but can nutty trying to.

Work has another covid outbreak. Last big one was around this same time last year. I think this one is delta, but not sure, it wasn't typed out (Should have been - maybe will be).

It seems to be mostly effecting those who religious exempted out of vaccinating.

It is creating worsening staffing shortages with staff out.

So far nobody is super sick, just mild cases, that is the one blessing.

I am hoping and praying for the best for us all - worried and not really wanting to go through it all again.

      @silverfox

I am blessed to have a case manager who truly cares for my son. The help she gave my son especially last year through covid was immense, beyond words, but it wasn't always like that.

Still a good teacher who cares means the world to a special needs child.

And a lack of care (sometimes because educators are over worked) is heartbreaking.

I will always remember when as a child who couldn't read or write getting a teacher who cared finally. I loved her more than words can say for caring, but also for seeing beyond my word stunted silence.

My son was abandoned at times. I will never forget a school leaving him and the other autistic kids out of grade pictures because it was too much trouble to include them and then still trying to sell me the picture

Or the teacher who said they were never even told my profoundly autistic son with an IEP was special needs at all after they piled him up with hours of homework beyond his ability. They thought he was just quiet and shy!

But a teacher who cares matters so much and makes such a difference and I can tell you care.
