RE: Santa Rosalia
There have been a few glimpses of a staggeringly beautiful cove just south of Santa Rosalia - that isn't on any map, and people are heading out this weekend to find the place.
If you're looking for something to do on Saturday, we're just about to kick off a hidden cove plot - a little fun-in-the-sun (with mermaids!) for summertime storytelling.
Suggested Concepts
While we're open to pretty much anything that fits within the theme, these are concepts that should easily find their way into ongoing plots.
-
Works With Plants - Someone who is into gardening, especially more holistically than scientifically, especially someone that would be interested in working as a groundskeeper at the Mission.
-
Park Ranger - A lot of story happens in Rosalia Forest. People are forever reporting things to some convenient NPC Ranger. You could be that character! Help keep the real authorities from getting involved.
-
Mission & Mission-Adjacent Characters - The Mission is a big part of life in Santa Rosalia. You can tie-in with the Mission as someone who attends Mass there, digs graves, plans events - lots of non-Catholic possibilities!

RE: GMs and Players
@mietze said in GMs and Players:
I just don't see writing a TS scene to be any more of a waste of time than the vast majority of court scenes I've gone to on any game.
I do. I find TS tedious. Like, I'd rather :takes a sip of klah than :takes off her top.
If I join a L&L game, I am probably there for court scenes. Not TS. I want my game to do what it says on the tin.
YMMV.

All of you people claiming that wanting evidence is evil?
Yes. All you people saying that? Best knock it off.

RE: Your yearly 'Active WOD' request thread.
@dnvnquinn Ares has a built-in help system that basically already does this, allowing players to type
help whatever
or searchwhatever
on the portal. Check the demo: https://mush.aresmush.com/help -
Santa Rosalia
- Website: https://rosaliamush.com/
- Address: rosaliamush.com port 4201
In a city nestled along the northern California coastline, buffered by a thick screen of old redwood forest, Santa Rosalia's residents find themselves facing increasingly strange occurrences. Is that a fairy, or a new species of butterfly? Are they casting spells, or tapping into something science simply hasn't uncovered yet?
The game focuses on gifted characters and what happens to them in their lives in Santa Rosalia. The PCs all possess a low-level psychic ability, which they're generally obliged to keep low-key so that society doesn't try to beat the weird out of them. Things are just a little bit off-normal in this world and are only likely to get stranger as the story progresses.
We've been open since November 2021, with a current list of wanted concepts on the wiki: https://rosaliamush.com/wiki/concepts

RE: MU Things I Love
Just wanted to throw a thanks to @L-B-Heuschkel for being cool. The MUSH world is full of weird gray areas, and a concern I brought to them is definitely in the gray. I appreciate the simple, straightforward solution (and not calling me a kooky nutter when I'm being one).

RE: GMs and Players
@derp Hey, you know there's a difference between "couldn't prove it" and "no proof," right? Like, they couldn't prove the former president assaulted multiple women, but that doesn't mean there's no proof. Just checking.

Go on, you guys explain to me how going all nuclear option on innocent people is the right thing to do.
These guys already did, so...
@farfalla said in GMs and Players:
For me it's as simple as harm reduction. Is more harm caused by banning someone who didn't do anything wrong, or by allowing someone abusive to stay?
@kanye-qwest said in GMs and Players:
If you 'encourage players to report' but make them provide elaborate 'proof' or first tell people personally to leave them alone or use a multiple strike system, they will not report. They will just leave.
@roz said in GMs and Players:
That does not mean that you have to simply believe each and every report that comes your way. There is a measure of common sense to be deployed here.

I don't sound like anything over the internet where there is no sound.
You're so right. Thanks.

RE: GMs and Players
@devrex Please know - I have nothing but respect for you as a player. We have a lot of cross-over friends(-of-friends), and they all say nothing but great things about you as an ST.
Just. What @icanbeyourmuse said. If so many people are misreading what's written, maybe try to reread it through a different lens. I don't expect anyone to change their policies based on MSB (lol who would even do that :D), but if I was getting this much negative feedback about wording...
I dunno. I'd at least take a glance at it.
At one point, @Derp said something about "not meaning to BE condescending" and I come back to something I have to tell my twelve-year-old: He needs to TRY to sound other than condescending.
(I need to TRY to sound other than argumentative. It's hard.)
Edit: Fixed the misquote.

@devrex said in GMs and Players:
I, @derp, @reimesu, have told you of examples where great harm has been caused by being too reactive, too.
Which examples?
I have frequently referenced a concrete example where I made a mistake (used the philosophy you espouse) and it caused lasting damage.
There have been suggestions that people have been falsely accused in the past, but no concrete examples. Where are the logs?
@devrex said in GMs and Players:
What if the person I threw off my game on someone else's word was you?
Then I probably wouldn't have enjoyed being there. I can think of one or two people who probably dislike me enough to say I've done some bunk shit over the years, and honestly? I've been an asshole more than once.
If one of those people is one of your friends? Dude, play with them, not me. Chances are, you'll like them better than me, and I'll find somewhere else to play.
-
RE: GMs and Players
@icanbeyourmuse I would add that they isolate their victims - bring conversations off-game or out of the designated safe space (Discord being the most common, but also other games where logs "don't count").
-
RE: GMs and Players
@devrex At a point, if this many people are reading what someone is writing in a particular way... doesn't that mean it's probably written that way?
The philosophy I'm maligning really sounds like @Derp needs proof that something happened on the game - because that's what's been said. And I am going to malign that philosophy, because I have personally seen how that can lead to emotional harm.
I don't think it's a good practice. Why should I not tell people that? Especially since I have personal experience with the harm that it caused.
If you don't want to take the advice, don't take it. And if we're all reading this wrong, then please set the record straight.
Cuz right now it just ain't a good look.

@krmbm said in GMs and Players:
It's really coming across like @Derp wouldn't believe you if you told him you were being stalked unless you have some kind of "lol hi found you!!!!! stalking you again!" log of the person.
@derp said in GMs and Players:
I'd need something more concrete to go off of.
Case in point.
-
RE: GMs and Players
@devrex said in GMs and Players:
Not leaping all over someone just because someone said so is not championing the abuser.
It's not coming across that way, just so you know.
It's really coming across like @Derp wouldn't believe you if you told him you were being stalked unless you have some kind of "lol hi found you!!!!! stalking you again!" log of the person.
The ones that are good at this are gonna see right through the holes in this policy and manipulate it.
-
RE: GMs and Players
@farfalla said in GMs and Players:
If you don't, the person being stalked will leave, so you're choosing to have the stalker on your game over the player who was already there being unproblematic. Have fun with that, I guess!
This is exactly what happened on GH. Sutton quit. Ruiz stuck around.
@Derp must have had different experiences.
