@Arkandel I think you're right re: Sanderson.

RE: Book suggestions
@HelloRaptor Hm. All popular books will have some rabid fans, but I never saw SoIAF or WOT fans as more so than others. I've mostly liked SoIAF, though I found especially book 4 disappointing. I also mostly liked WoT, though in the end I just wanted it to fucking be done already. I thought Brandon Sanderson did an excellent job at that.
By the way, his Stormlight Archives is off to a really great start I thought.

RE: Book suggestions
@Arkandel GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire have become so big that they pop up in any kind of Fantasy book discussion. If you make a comparason, good or bad, of GRRM, people tend to know what you're talking about.

RE: Book suggestions
@HelloRaptor Like I said, I thought they were good reads. The first three anyway, I haven't read the rest. Not books I generally recommend to people out of the blue, though.

Chronicles of TC basically started with rape and despair and got worse from there.
The first part is true. The second I'd disagree with. I thought they had a lot of hope in them.

RE: Book suggestions
@HelloRaptor I really liked those. Didn't change my life, though.

RE: Good Things
@Cobaltasaurus It was a ham and cheese piece. So not the dessert kind!

RE: Book suggestions
Did anyone mention The First Law books by Joe Abercrombie? They're awesome, as are all the stand alone follow ups.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@Ganymede I never come across anything handwritten anymore. The only times I personally write is when I'm jotting down my grocery list. At work it's all email or printed out, same with any sort of purchases I make, and hell, all Goverment mail here is electronic now as well. The person taking notes at meetings is sitting with a laptop, not a pen and a notebook.
I'll admit that math is easier doing by hand, though.

RE: 1 Sphere, 2 Sphere, 3 Sphere, 4!
- On Reno with two supernatural Spheres, the ratio of mortal to supernatural is more or less 50-50.
- On Kingsmouth, which is a single sphere (vampire) game, it's 50-50. Additionally, on Kingsmouth most players only have one character, due to the strict alt rules, yet still half the characters are mortal.
- On The Reach it's more like 1/3 character is a mortal.
This was just me quickly pulling up census on those three games, the ones I'm online on ATM.
Edit: By mortal I mean plain mortal, mortal +, or mortal sub splats to the big scaries.

RE: 1 Sphere, 2 Sphere, 3 Sphere, 4!
@Coin It also requires putting in the time to codify how those spheres of influence look. Codifying who the gangs are, putting out some names on those high rank positions so mortals have something they too can refer to and play against.
I'd also recommend throwing up a bunch of ready made cults that have a bit of gravity to them. Like the Masons with some actual influence on the city.

RE: XP Rollover
@Arkandel I don't think that's necessarily correct. I think a system that combines the potential to catching up (or at least works in some sort of xp dillusion scheme where the relative power differential becomes smaller and smaller) with it not being automatic, works best.

I had a cellphone at 15. One of the original Nokia's. I felt so cool, with my interchangeable face plates. >.>
Edit: Of course, by 17 I had run up a $300 bill and then I lost the cellphone.. but it was cool for a time!
I only got those prepaid cards. Mum didnt trust me not to rack up a huge bill. Which, since a lot of my friends did, was probably not unwise. I had a bulky motorola. What a crap phone that was. It survived being thrown against the wall, though.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
It was expected you have a cellphone when I was like 13 or so, though Scandinavia is fairly high tech I guess.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
My little cousin told me I was old, so I guess I am. It was the grey hairs, you see. If you have grey hairs then your're old, even if you're sitting there playing ps4 with him. 12 year olds. So fucking judgemental.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
We have a lot of bicyclists here, and there's a lot of friction between them and cars. Part of the problem is that there just aren't enough bicycle lanes. Sure there are assholse on bikes, but god there are a lot of assholes in cars, too, who will drive dangerously just to make 5 seconds here or 10 seconds there.
Let's face it, it's better for everybody is more people are on bikes than in cars, so I think we aughta make it easier rather than harder to pick one up.

I prefered the old. It was charmingly disorganized.

I think the season thing sounds interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it.

RE: Fitness and Whatnot
I still just do the same exercises I learned in highschool and the army after. Pull ups, push ups, sits up, high jumps, the plank, etc. 20 minutes here, 15 minutes there. It keeps me healthy and in shape, if not aboslutely ripped. I'll run half the year when doing so doesn't burn my face and lungs due to the friggin nordic cold. In the winter I'll just walk the mountains instead. Cross country skiing is awesome, but sadly the snow doesn't stay where I live right now. I miss being able to just step outside the door and skii.
A pull up bar somewhere in your home, preferably not in your cold dank basement, is awesome. It lowers the treshold to just grab it at random and do a couple, or swich around and hook your legs into it, or just do som static balance exercises. Owning some free weights is fantastic, too.
Make the treshold low. Minimize the effort required to just do a little light exercise, and you'll go a long way. That and eating healthy so you don't have to burn a million calories. (Read: I don't follow any diets, I just don't buy chips/sweets, I don't drink 5 cups of coffee with tons of sugar and cream, and I don't fry my food every day.)
@Arkandel At Christmas I gorge myself. Screw it all, it's Christmas.

RE: Lordbelh's playlist
@Deviante We had a couple of enjoyable scenes. I haven't really played much at all on Reno for about a month. Though that's not reserved solely for Reno; I've just not been RPing much at all.
