@Mercutio Cool, cool. And may I say! I think you did very well representing your game with these posts. I'm certainly not here to tell you how to run it (just judge it, since that is what MSB is for), but it does seem that you have a firm hand on the pulse of where the power balances lie in your game. It speaks p highly for you as a Staffer and the game as a whole.

In regards to the idea of older characters having more power - this is indeed the case. But there is a hard level cap. And while there are side-upgrade options, the costs climb heavily after a certain point. It's not perfect, but not the worst as a system. It's something we watch.
@Mercutio said in Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance:
Transparency with staff is harder to define or even comment on, as I am uncertain in what way that word is being used in this instance.
Ok, but like, how many of those older characters who have hit level cap but have a shitton of side-upgrade options are in the hands of staff? That's what I'm talking about looking at, and what I am talking about re: transparency.
I mean, I am glad you guys know your factions (spheres. potatoes. whatever you want to call them, really) but knowing who is getting all the cool stuff and getting to do the cool things is important, too. I'm not here to tell you how to run your game, but if all staff have really old characters with a lot of influence because of the things that they have, you can bet it's going to make your game less appealing to people.

RE: Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance
Like always, the truth probably lies somewhere in between. @Warma-Sheen may be overly critical and the complaint is silly, but now might be a good time for @Mercutio to take a hard look at power balances in spheres and transparency with staff, too. Maybe there's nothing to look at! But hey, never hurts to do it.

RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check
@Chet As not an English professor, I think this is all gold. Please start a thread of just 'Chet's Thoughts'. I'd totally read your thoughts on MU*ing as a whole, superheroes, and anything else that moves your heart to talk about.

RE: RL Anger

Except that I genuinely care about all of you fuckers so. I guess I know how.

RE: RL things I love
I got a credit card for the first time a couple months ago. I've already earned 112 dollars from spending money I would have spent anyways??? that's super cool.
(1 dollar of it was for donating money to @Auspice. Aw yeah.)

I kind of call bullshit on OP's talk of not wanting to name-and-shame. Or at least, OP, you didn't post in line with that philosophy. You gave way a lot of detail, enough that any person with half a brain knows exactly which character you are talking about. If someone's playing on the game, they know even more. I am not playing on the game, but I bet I could find it with just a little bit of poking about.
I think OP doesn't really wanna name-and-shame but the details got away from them.
That said: Daken or Purple Man? What's up?
I don't play on any games as described tho', so I wouldn't be able to point fingers.
It's Kilgrave/Purple Man. Ten bucks on that.
And yeah, I accounted for them not really wanting to, but again. They didn't post in line with that philosophy. Intent vs action.
I dunno. i think Daken is totally a viable candidate. I can just see the fabulous scenes of him paitning his claws vibrant colors.
(I am dying. I want to see an alternate reality where daken is that fabulous.)
Apparently, if you played on the game, you could. I owe you ten bucks. And @Nein lied. On //MSB//. Don't do that, son.

I didn't know about grits until I was 18. Like seriously, had never heard of them or encountered them. It wasn't until I joined the military and got sent to basic training, and then I was in a chowline and there were grits where I had to be like-- what are those? to a fellow trainee.

To be fair, I had never heard of the character prior to joining the game. I had to do a lot of googling to find out why people were complaining. Guess I have half a brain.
I had to give some details on the situation just to verify that A) I was not witnessing someone being treated poorly by a lot of people for no reason and B) that my perspective was not off. I was willing to be corrected if that was the case. I can see that I didn't handle even the post as tactfully as I'd intended, but there you go.
Well! If you want advice, in the future you should simplify details. 'Serious, manipulative bisexual male character with dark and serious themes is being played like a walking glitter-dusted gay erection' would have been enough for people to judge your perspective.

(because consent games are not systems, so the term does not apply)
I just want to pop in to say-- Like, yes, but you're being a bit pedantic with that, to be honest. It's like when someone talks about anarchy as a type of government. No, it's technically /not government at all/, but when you're discussing types of governments and you bring up anarchy, it's being a bit nitpicky. We all know what is meant in both contexts if I say 'Anarchy is the best government' and 'Consent is the worst system'.
