    • RE: POLL Gothic Fantasy System

To my eyes, Savage Worlds is a quick wargame, with attempted nods at any flavor at all, as far as the system goes. They can certainly dish out the sourcebooks, but all of that can easily be translated into any game system. Otherwise SW just always comes across as bland to me.

Mythras might be good, especially if you look at applications to handle politics or whatever you might want to add in, from the other modern Runequest 6 systems out there. Especially if you look at the ones where advancement is handled in something other than "make a roll, get a check, see if you improve end of adventure" way.

All that said, choose whatever gets your own fires going. If you are the source, you want the system and setting examples you work from to fire your imagination and get you to want to play and get others to play.

      I'd choose neither.

What do you mean by Gothic Fantasy? Warhammer? Castelvenia? Shadows of Esteren? Leagues of Gothic Horror?

My takeaway is that indeed you SHOULD play WoD so dark that players do in fact lose their sense that they have anything in common with these people in the game.

      Enjoy.

Leverage is a gimme system though.

Which I suppose makes it perfect for MU* play.

@wizz One thing I never want to lose in any setting is the sense that (for players) they understand and can relate to the typical NPC of the setting. Human beings can adapt to a great deal (because among other things we are a terrible species to ourselves), but there is some point where I feel like that common ground, that common grounding in human experience no longer applies.

Even in Dark City, where no one was who they seemed to be, there was that idea of core humanity coming through. I personally see that in the various Vampire moralities, though some are definitely real attempts to become something else. Many, however, seem to be justification to indulge in very human behaviors.

That idea of everything is actually messed up always goes against the grain for me. I've been in places where bloody revolution was about to happen, where you don't walk on the side of the road because (not mines) there are bodies in shallow graves, places where corruption is the norm, and still people are people. They try to live normal lives.

To push it so far reminds me of Paranoia, where yep everyone really is a traitor, etc. Farcical. The film Brazil is about as far as I can see things, because the oppressor is human, and the populace is still human.

I like any public space that is actually representative of the supernaturals foothold/hegemony in the mortal world.

@Arkandel Much as I love the genre, it doesn't work online.

      Ships are separated.
      Distance matters.
Either you are all good hearted OR there is crew tension.
Players do not like losing, dying, or even retreating.
Players do not like actual survival scarcity.
Players try to up the technology level with their OOC knowledge.
If everyone is special, no one is playing together.

Also, sinking a ship is hard.

      What sort of pirates?
      Swashbuckling good guys?
      Heist stories?
      Betrayal and bloodshed?
      Political and cultural change?

@Coin said in Things We Should Have Learned Sooner:

P.S. I want a League of Legends MU.

I believe that the example of player toxicity from the source would bleed over and melt the server, transform the fiber optics to bile, and murder the staff before the doors even opened.

    • RE: Random links

      Ultimately the questions are two:
Does embezzlement or infidelity affect the veracity of a a "significant" number of Snopes articles?
Does it mean that these claims for legal expenses are fraud?

My answer, given no further details than what was in that article, is no. Owners of some types of corporations can take money out of those corporations. It may be a surprise to other owners, but it is legal. I was at a company where friends betrayed one another and it ended with one suicide at the office, all perfectly legal, just extremely dishonest and distasteful.

Data suggests removing an easy to use commonly available means of suicide may reduce rates by 10%. That is what the UK experienced when they removed gas stoves.

eta: I realized this is an unclear number. Of the percent that were killing themselves with gas ovens, there was a 10% reduction. Suggesting that ease of acquiring or using a means is critical for about 10% of all folks. Maybe.

@Wizz You can't live scraping by. Eventually you will have a situation, and you will not be able to provide the good and necessary service, and the company will not help you stand back up again. My wife is in a similar situation, but she's getting 75% of typical pay, AND there is a heavy pressure to "donate time" to handle the excess workload. Its for people who absolutely need her and others like her, but I question whether the company is unable to do better.
