RE: Dealing with Staff
Like I said, don't take that attitude is the best solution I can offer.
Unlike life, where yeah you have to take steps and make decisions constantly for every threat you deal with, this is fire and forget, and has many other uses.
I set up auto logging at the same time I set up background colors and text size, font, spawn windows etc for a new place.
So it's not a preventative measure. It just happens to help when this stuff rolls around. In the time I have used the auto loggers, and \just logging before that, its been mainly useful to review conversations and cgen, or a policy or rules discussion.
Anyway, if it's too costly, don't do it. I am neither saying you are dumb if you don't, nor am I in any sort of position or situation where I can affect anyone, or be affected by anyone, on a game. No one has to listen to me.
Besides, I know you have perfect recall and ethics too strong to present an altered record as true.

RE: Dealing with Staff
Like I said automatic.
Its for review. It's for scene logging. Its for not scrolling back through 200 comments on a +job while you compose a response.
The point being the attitude doesn't have to be there at all. Since you are always logging, there is no specific purpose at all. You don't need to care one whit about how it may be used.
Or maybe I am more sociopathic than most.

RE: Dealing with Staff
Logging isn't hard.
Atlantis can make it automatic, with a title of date and time.
So it's not much of a burden.
Hoping that logging will get you anything is a burden.

RE: Dealing with Staff
You don't need to be friends with the staffer.
You just need to communicate clearly what you need, and they need to do so in return.
Do not focus on anything but getting what you need, and what they need from you to make it happen.
-
RE: Dealing with Staff
Keep everything terse, brief, specific.
Do not give more information than necessary to get what you want.
Do not ask questions other than to get specifically what you want.
Ask for examples created by others.
Don't ask for other staff unless you both get on each others nerves without meaning to.
Have another player, that gets along with each of you, translate for you. Not live, in writing.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Here is the story of how I switched from soda to iced tea:
My friends would fgo t the UTC Mall here in La Jolla for many reasons, one being the Indian take out place run by this old Indian guy who was very nice. One day we went, and he had no large cups anymore. He explained that he did not mind if we went elsewhere to get a large soda, but he couldn't in good conscience sell that much soda at once to someone.
For no real reason beyond his thoughtfulness, I decided to switch to plain iced tea after that. My wife is a bad influence, and wants Coke Zero in the house for a mixer, but otherwise its now in the category of a desert drink we may get.
Don't think it helped, but it did get me off the stuff. Cold brew ice tea bags also help a lot at work.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Some people around here refer to everyone as sir and ma'am because that is how they address folks.
I tried objecting to a navy veteran referring to me as sir to no avail. He was just that up front respectful of everyone.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I love that due to my job I get points for tracking meals, sleep, and steps, and those points convert to dollars to counter medical care costs beyond what insurance covers. My wife and I racked up over $400 last year, which isn't a huge amount but made it worthwhile.
She wins at steps, I win at sleeping.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Okay, I will admit the leveling up and such was fun. I tend to play alone, so I expected end game stuff to be nearly impossible.
It has/has a lot of potential. I personally liked the expansion that allowed you to do a quick mission run with selected levels of complications and difficulties on a randomized map. Kept it fresh.
I just couldn't get that last little upgrade where I could complete missions alone anymore. And then the Dark Zone shat upon my character and my game designer tendencies.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Maybe I'll look.
I just hate PVP, especially formless, griefing only face anyone at any level PVP. -
RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Maaan, The Division.
I really liked many parts of it, but holy cow was the Dark Zone a terrible terrible idea.
Yes, PLEASE let me PVP my way to and from your end game content against players who got all the exploits in early, and allow them to take my XP and my loot.
SO GOOD.
Or so not playing anything designed by them again.

RE: House Rules vs Rules as Written
For online, game system engagement is minimal, and so keeping things simple and as written is most effective.
For a game I am running? Its how we focus in on whatever I wanted to focus in on, before or after player input.
As an example, my players felt odd about 1 point of damage being enough to kill you in WoD. So we HR'd something in, which happened to fit with both what I wanted to project about being supernatural, and my general sense of realism.
So in order to support your generic every game everyone understands what we're doing because it's what we've always done regardless of rules or setting and will not change experience, don't change a thing. Its a waste of your time.
